Hi all. Im planing a trip, and would like to stay at a Pirate room at Caribbean Beach. The only problem is that my father is 60 and has 2 bad knees, while I am 16 and in great physical strength. I skateboard long distances everyday. I am not interested in tricks, jumping down stairs , grinding on hand rails, knocking over old ladies(Peds ALWAYS HAVE THE RIGHT AWAY IF A SKATER IS READING THIS) or spray painting Skateboarding is not a crime on bathroom stalls.( Being a nuisance and graffiti is) So, we got this great idea that I can Skate over to Old Royale, pick up breakfast, and skate back to the room in not time. My primary concern is will Disney allow this?

-This is not a question of can I, Ive done it before else where, its a matter of MAY I-

An interesting question that I do not have the answer to. However, I wanted to mention that if it IS prohibited, you may be better off walking (or jogging) to OPR than taking the internal shuttle. We stayed in a pirate room (building 37) and often found that we could have walked to and from OPR in the time it took to wait for a shuttle!

I hope you get the answer to your question and have a great trip!:wizard:

I asked several years ago (my son always takes his skateboard) and I was told that it was not allowed on property anywhere.

But you know Disney, different CMs may give you different answers.

Disney does not allow any wheeled items in the parks or resorts other than strollers and personal mobility devices such as EVCs and wheelchairs. Even wheeled shoes, such as Heelies, are not allowed at Walt Disney World, even though I have seen them.

i know the campgrounds are prob the exception to this rule however i used to skateboard everywhere at the camp grounds... ie pool deck and by the restaurants and gift shops... noone said ne thing... i think if people see you using it to just get around and not doing tricks everywhere no one will say ne thing... thats just my own opinion

Next door to the Caribbean Beach is Encinas Blvd, which leads to the Waldorf Astoria and Wyndham Bonnet Creek. Along the road is a jogging path that perhaps you could skateboard on. This is not on Disney property (although you are in the Disney bubble)

Getting there would be a problem if you do not have a car, as although the resorts are next door to the Caribbean Beach, there is no sidewalk on Buena Vista Drive to get there.

^^^ Im not skating for fun, just for connivence, but thanks for the advice.

If they allow bikes, why not skateboards?

•Florida state statute number 316.0085 states that the government "does not grant authority or permission for a person to engage in skateboarding, inline skating, paintball, or freestyle or mountain and off-road bicycling on property owned or controlled by a governmental entity unless such governmental entity has specifically designated such area for skateboarding, inline skating, paintball, or freestyle or mountain and off-road bicycling." This means that you cannot skate on property owned or controlled by the government unless it specifically says you can. Parks or specially designed skate parks typically allow skateboarding.

Given that you cannot do it on public land you may want to re think bringing it to disney.

Sorry dude, no skating at WDW :sad2: I would assume that there would be designated areas where one could skate, similar to areas where bikes are allowed, but apparently not. Here is an answer from the Moms Panel:

It makes sense though, it sounds like you are a great skater, but Disney can't discriminate between you and a skater that isn't experienced, who may run into a crowd, trip people, or slide out in front of a bus, for example.

I'd say to take the bus, or if your Grandpa has mobility issues, he may opt to use an ECV to get around the resort. :wizard:

DANG IT!!!!!!

Actually, I'm not great when it comes to tricks, but Im pretty boss at going fast and carrying stuff.

It sounds like in Florida, skateboarding is a crime!

My son and his friend brought their skateboards, and yes they did skate up to the hospitality house, no one said anything, they were respectful and did not skate among any crowds. They did not skate around the hotel area doing tricks or anything, it was strickly for going up to get some chicken and burgers. There are some skate parks in orlando, get your mom to take you to the Vans Skatepark, it is indoor.
Have fun Kid

Sorta glad I found this thread- but wish it was a different answer. I used to play roller derby (on a break) and would love to skate around the resort to get some exercise. Maybe someday Disney will allow skating and skateboarding, provided you are careful and courteous to others.

Side note - I really wish they would enforce the heely thing. I don't see a lot of what I refer to as "skating etiquette" when those are in play. (not to mention no pads or helmets - yikes! I have had many "oh that won't happen" injuries to know that I love wearing all my gear!) :confused3

When I stayed at Disney's port Orleans in October there was a boy the room next door to me and I saw him skate boarding all the time and no one seemed to mind xoxox

Hope this helped in any way?:rotfl: xoxoxxo

Honestly, if your dad will have trouble walking, you might want to consider switching resorts. CBR is one of the largest Disney resorts, and it will be hard for your dad to get anywhere without a bit of a walk.
