Skateboard for an 11 YO

My wife is insisting on our little one learning how to ride in order to have something more in common with other kids. We ended up buying something super cheap on Amazon then signing up for an ongoing class (where apparently the big they taught for new kids is falling down safely) and the instructor said the board needed to be better, but didn't have to be ridiculously expensive. He recommended a local skate shop.

We ended up returning the board and then looked around at that skate shop. Everything was way out of our budget. They mostly had separate decks/trucks/wheels, and just two complete boards.

My wife is insisting that it has to be the "right" board although I think at a certain price point they're all fine for a beginner that's better than a cheapie board. She seems fixated on how much of a bend the board has the ends. I do remember the instructor allowing the use of another board simply because the board we had was of low quality with poor wheels.

My kid is looking at stuff for sale and seems like the Santa Cruz Classic Dot 7.8". Like the solid color without any weird graphics.

Anyone suggest something for a beginner?

I will fully admit my daughter is a klutz. And when she mentioned she wanted a skateboard when she was 12 years old, I was very nervous. However, she did hoverboard just fine.

She prefers the longboard. Not expensive but really does a nice job. We got a Quest Longboard, and it was around $55, but this was a few years ago.



Amazon doesn't have the one she has in stock, but they have other Quest boards that vary in length. She loved the 36" board, said it was a good fit for her.
