And I thought Scrapbooking itself was an expensive hobby. OMG.... I just bought the Sizzix. Yes, I used my Michaels coupon, so it was under 40$. However, you have to buy the dies, or well it is just a huge paperweight. So I bought several dies.... uh.... they add up FAST!

So I went back today and bought another die with the 40% coupon, but man oh man.... I want MANY MANY MORE. And the biggest problem of all.... I want alphabets. The fun serif right now, or so I had convinced myself. But now they are coming out in November with Lollipop alphabet, and sometime in early spring with Script alphabet. Uh... the fun serif is 169 - for each Upper and Lower case sets. I don't even want to know how much I can spend. And buying them one at a time is so annoying.... I mean if I waited and used my coupons it would be around 18 years before I owned a complete alphabet set... and that would be one set only. I don't really like the shadowbox set, but I love the fun serif and then the new lollipop is cute. But if I had to pick two I would say the fun serif and then the script. UH... HELLO you dense chick that is $676 IF the script is the same price as the fun serif.

And then there are the cute dies. I bought the following (WAY OVERBOARD) - butterfly, dragonfly, flowers, ivy, stem and leaves, snowflake, Christmas tree, gifts, dove and bathclothes for the doll. Which leads me to wanting the DOLLS and all of their clothes. Don't really want the bitty ones, but they have such cute clothes. ACK.... I tried to buy dies I would use more than once. THEY NEED A MICKEY die and a CASTLE die. I would definitely buy those. But there are so many more I can see using - clouds and bathtime stuff... and what about the holiday things. I mean really I did Christmas, but they have a fall set that has an apple, pumpkin, bat, leaf and sign. ANOTHER 40+ dollars. EEeeeek.... I am going to cry. We haven;t even hit the Easter things yet, and I collect eggs (decorative ones) OMG. I will die then.

My husband is going to kill me as it is. I am a dead woman.

This is why I am not getting one! LOL! I know I would want to get all of them and spend way too much money!
I am lucky though, I go to a couple of crops with SIAS and she has they sizzix and you can use it as much as you want she has a letter set and a lot of dies.
Also my LSS has a press and you can use it anytime you want free ( well with the purchase of paper!) So I keep telling myself I don't need it......
Good luck! And remember you can use ACMoore coupons at Michael's!

oh that is too funny, I am still chuckling!:D That is precisely why I haven't bought the sizzix, I'd be doomed like you. On the other hand, I must have all the cute eyelets, the flowers, stars, holiday ones, different coloured ones, little ones, big ones... it's scary. And then there is the coloured wire, no clue what I might do with it, so I haven't actually bought it..... Good luck with the sizzix! maggie

Look on the bright side, when people ask what you want for your b-day and the holidays you can tell them! Or, make life easy and ask for gift cards to Michael's, or the Sizzix web site!

I have a friend who bought a sizzix last year and she very patiently bought each letter with her coupons. Now, it did take awhile, but she has them all finally and the shadow ones too! I have been very tempted to buy it, but then I come to my senses. I think for the meantime I'll just borrow hers.
I saw in my LSS today that for $5/year you can use their die cut machine. I think I'll just go for that and be happy for now.
But I am SO SO jealous. Have lots of fun with it!!!

Dh bought me the Sizzix machine itself for my bday earlier this year. I don't think he realized you had to buy some dies too, or like Lainy67 said, it's just a big paperweight. I've gotten a few dies (probably 10 or less) with my coupons. I really wanted it for the alphabet sets, but have yet to get around to buying any of them. On the subject of the alphabets I saw this posted on another message board and saved it, thinking it might be helpful. I realize this may not work for all of the alphabet styles, but might help you improvise until you are able to collect the entire set.

"something to think about. You don't have to buy all the alphabet. Some letters can double for others with just a quick little snip of the scissors.
Here are the letters you need to buy:
A B D E G H K M N Q R S T U V X Y Z
(below, one letter used for another)
for C use part of G
for F use part of E
for I use part of H or T
for J use part of U
for L use part of E
for P use part of B or R
for W turn M upside down
for O use part of Q

This will save you the cost of buying 8 letters. Now the order you buy them in is up to you."

I finally broke down and bought the sizzix. I got the whole alphabet at one time at acmoore reg. price was 149.99. I got it with 40% off, making it cheaper than buying 1 letter at a time. Now, one problem is, not all stores carry it this way. the other problem, acmoore doesn't carry the shadow set and michaels coupons are much harder to find ;( oh, well, i will have to talk to the store people about getting the shadow letters.

I bought a full set of alphabet dies from www.scrapbookmagicstore.com they are very cheap, cheaper than getting them individually, even with the 40% coupon.

It's not listed on the website, you have to email her - but they are well worth an email.

I just have the lower case serif, the squares, tags, swirls and a cute heart - I would like the upper case, and the new script alphabet when it comes out - but I'm not too bothered about loads of dies I will only use once.

I bought the Sizzix too. I've been slowly trying to buy the alphabet set. I have been in Michaels so much lately, they don't even ask for my license when I write a check! ;) I cut out all the coupons and send my sisters, friends, parents and perfect strangers in for the die cuts - just so I can use the coupons! DH thinks I've become a secret shop-a-holic and wants me to get help.

What will I do when the new alphabet sets come out???? I may have to start ordering more copies of the Boston Globe so I can get more coupons!

Okay, I think I do need help . . .

Do you have an AC Moore near you? They sell the boxed set of the fun serif alphabet. I bought the upper for $74.99 and the lower for $69.99. I used coupons and the funny thing is they were priced differently at the two different AC Moores. The upper was $149.00 less 50% off coupon, the lower was $140. less 50%
off coupon.

I thought this was reasonable. I bought my sizzix last year and
waited until the shadow alpha came out, to buy the fun serif(figured everyone had it by then). I have used this machine for so many other crafts projects.

Love it.

Nope... no AC Moore anywhere near me. Closest one was like in Knoxville TN, and I am in Texas, so That is out. I have an online price of 100 each. But I am still going to keep looking. The Michaels here carries the individual letters, but no sets, so I shall perservere. I must. My husband keeps looking at me like he is going to spend a LOT of money on something as well. Guess I had better be nice to him at Christmas this year. Or he will get it in his head to buy some sort of airplane build it yourself kit, or something. UGH!

is that a standard deal at ACMoore? Do they have them in Orlando? My sister in law just moved to Orlando, I wonder if she could help me out with that?
I was going to go with the $100 that Lainy mentioned - but if I can get them any cheaper - well, of course, that would be better.:D

Bev

I do not know if there are AC Moores in Fl. I know that there are
Michaels(but they do not sell sets) I know that there is a JoAnn's
but do not know if they sell sets or not.

OK.... I found them!!!!! UGH. A new MJ Designs opened up on Friday near me, and they had EVERYTHING SIZZIX! Of course they charge more than any other store in the area for all of it. But they were the only ones with the letter sets. I bought the capital ones today with the 45% off coupon, and will head to the store on Sat to get the lower case ones with 50% off coupon. I talked to the girl who stocks the scrapbook stuff. She was inventorying and I expressed my concern over the letters disappearing by Saturday, and she said she would be sure to make sure they had the sets stocked. UGH. But just knowing they will be there at different times, and I can use coupons is a relief. Well until I actually realize how much I have spent. SHEESH.

I haven't really wanted a sizzix yet. It just seems like it costs so much money and I know that I would mostly use it for lettering which i can do with the stencils I have and with my computer/printer. Embellishments, on the other hand....lol....they get the best of me sometimes....
