I've been an occasional scrapper off and on since 2003, but never got beyond the realm of using just plain paper, borders, and stickers. Well, for my birthday, my mom gave me a BigKick Sizzix machine. I've read the directions, gone to local craft stores, etc., and I just don't understand it. I know it's an embossing and die-cutting machine, but I'm having trouble figuring out what I'm supposed to buy for it and how exactly I'm supposed to use it. Some stores told me I needed to buy folders and others called what looked like the same thing dies.

I remember reading on here a long time ago about there being Disney-themed die or embossers, I think, but I have no idea where to find that or what machine that was for.

If anyone has this machine or knows about the Disney stuff and could share your knowledge, I'd really appreciate it. I'm just lost and feel like I need a book titled "The Idiot's Guide to Embossing." :rotfl2:

The Disney dies are from Cuttlebug but you can use them in your Big Kick. You can but them at ACMoore, Michael's and online.

I did a tutorial on the sizzix die, I'll post a link. It's pretty basic but you will get the idea of how it works. I used an older die though, I got rid of most of my sizzix stuff when I got my Cricut so I don't know what the new dies look like.

Hi, you can view the entire current sizzix offerings on their website. www.sizzix.com. ACMoore, Michaels and Joann's tend to carry the basic selection of dies. As BernardandMissBianca mentioned Cuttlebug does have Disney related embossing folders and dies. With the Big Kick you can use other manufacturer dies/folders etc. Some are easier that others. I've used Cuttlebug, quickcutz and spellbinder dies with my Big Shot (similar to the Big Kick). The cuttlebug embossign folders are the best in my opinion if you like deep embossing. Sizzix.com moved a lot of their clearance items to their ebay store. If you're looking for some basic shapes and alphabets the prices there are not bad. The online Joann website tends to carry more selections than their store. Plus they carry other manufacturer ties as well. With the chains they quite routinely have the sizzix and cuttlebug dies 40-50% off.

Have fun. Karen

The Dies do the cutting.
The Folders do the embossing.
Some things need both to get the proper effect.
The Cuttlebug Disney ones are both. They come with a die for the cutting and a folder for the embossing.
With the Big Kick you will need the 3-part adapter plate that came with it to use the skinnier dies. The bigger/thicker dies will only need the two cutting plates (the clear plastic things).
Make sure when using the Disney dies to use the following steps -
(1) put down the thickest adapter plate (let the two skinner ones go through the middle to the other side and make sure you don't hit the wall or obsticals when you crank the handle to put the whole sandwich through) (2) place one clear plate on top (3) place the die so the foam faces up (4) place the paper you are using on top making sure the side you want to use is touching the foam [if you are using printed paper, you don't want the print show to you right now] (5) place the other clear plate on top of the paper (6) gently push the sandwich under the middle section where the handle is (7) crank the handle until the whole sandwich comes out the other side (8) take sandwich apart and remove the cut paper (9) place that paper into the folder making sure to line up everything proper (10) hold folder tight or paper might slide and put the folder with paper in where you had the die & paper [repeat 1 thru 8]
Let me know if this helps or just confuses you more. I'm a visual learner myself. Show me twice and I'll know it forever.

Thank you all for the help. Once I actually get some dies and folders (next few days I hope), I'll probably be returning for more help. :wizard:
