Hi,

How big is the in-room fridge? I wanted to bring along some soda and was wondering if a 2 litter bottle would fit in there. Thanks

It's on the small side. We find that if we take out the rack inside we can get a couple of wine bottles inside, so if those fit I think a 2-liter bottle of soda would fit too. :)

You might be able to get it in. FYI, we brought a bottle of champagne and it didn't fit. Our room host kept the sink filled with ice and we kept it there.

We always bring a collapsible, soft-sided cooler and ask the room steward to keep it filled with ice. This gets beer/wine/soda chilled more quickly and (I think) keeps it colder. Once it's cold, we might store it in the fridge. The room stewards are great at keeping your drinks on ice.

You need to know that the "fridge" is more like having your drinks in a cooler with no ice. Well, maybe a little better than that, but certainly not like a regular fridge. So, be prepared that it will NOT keep your beverages ice cold. ;)

The fridge is not a refridgerator but a insulated cooler. It does not have a condensor that will cool things down and keep them at that temp. You need to put in things that are already cold and it keeps them that way for a long time. We brought along several frozen bottles of water and had them in one of the soft sided, collapsible coolers. We stayed at the Raddison the night before and had a refrigrator in the room. We needed to do this because both myself and my wife are diabetics and the insulin needs to be kept cold until we us it.

Actually, the "Beverage Cooler" WILL cool items placed in it. It may take some time but it is not just an insulated container. If you check the cooler carefully, you will see that it does have cooling fans underneath and the back wall will be cool to the touch and wet with condensation.

I place my room temperature bottle of Dasani (bought onboard) in the cooler and it was cold when I took it out the next day. Keep in mind this was the only item in the cooler.

I've also been able to cool things down in the stateroom fridge too, go figure. I know everyone has different experiences with those things. But it's always chilled wine just fine (it does take a while) and it keeps cool things cool. :)

Ours cooled things down nicely on both cruises. I put warm soda and warm wine in there and it was cold when I drank it!

Our fridge in 6628 and 5126 on the Wonder, and 5142 on the Magic all cooled warm drinks and kept them cool the whole trip. My next cruise is a RCCL to Alaska where they have mini-bars, not empty fridges--I don't like minibars--he last hotel where I tried to keep my stuff in the hotel mini-bar, they ended up putting a $7 charge on my card after I left. Took several toll calls to get it straightened out. I love having the fridge on board.

do all the cabins have them? we have a secret porthole room ~

I do believe every stateroom has one.

The best definition of them is they are the type of cooler you can plug into the cigarette lighter of your car. They will cool, but it's not by any measure an icebox. That said, if you have something that absolutely HAS TO be kept cold(medicines), ask for a real fridge, they do have a limited supply for such needs.

Also, if you do find yours will not have a beverage cool in it after a number of hours, you need to report it to maintainance. Your room host will clean it out between occupancies, but there's no way they can test to see if it is cooling beverages as it works in a way that does take hours to cool down warm drinks. But it should keep already cool drinks cool nicely :D

I have one of those coolers for my car. With my cooler, it works by air temperature. The cooler cools to about, I think 30-40 degrees below that of the air temperature.

while we're on the topic of the fridges, is it possible to get a pitcher of oj delivered w/o charge to keep in fridge each day? I read u can ordera pitcher of lemonade- just wondering if I can order oj instead. thanks for any replies!

It looked to me like the fridge either once was or was intended to be a mini-bar like you find in a hotel room. It was itsy bitsy, but we were able to keep a bottle of champagne on its side and a couple of 16 oz. H2O bottles in it. Ours cooled the warm bottles off just fine, and kept them that way. And it definitely had a condenser or compresser or whatever that thingie is, bc I could hear it cycling on/off during the night.

I don't know the answer to your question, but I thought I'd offer that the orange juice onboard was (to me)... disappointing. It tasted like it came out of a can and was quite watery. I do not like canned orange juice.

(The fresh squeezed o.j. at Palo, on the other hand...)

I have to agree about the Orange juice, it was not great. The room "fridge" kept our soda cool, but by no means cold. I certainly wouldn't keep milk or anything that could spoil in it!

Hi,

Long time lurker on these boards, first time poster. We're going on our second land/sea vacation on January 9 and will be in a navigator verandah room on the sixth deck (I forget the number). Will there be a fridge in that room? Last year we were in the same type cabin, seventh deck, and we didnt' have a fridge.

Thanks to everyone who maintains these boards and shares their information with newbies like me. I've gotten so much information from this site that I couldn't get anywhere else. You guys are great.

We cooled beer, coolers and wine and had no problem. I was expecting a bad fridge (from all these posts) and it was great! We were in a cat. 9 (deck 1) Wonder cabin, due to the 11/30 Magic cancelation. It was a great cabin!
