I understand there are not many rooms up there, but have a question about the few that are. I read the view wasn't as good because of the roof line? Is it lower? Do you have to look over top of a lower section of the building, or is the savannah straight below? If not the 6th floor, which are the most convenient concierge rooms? We'd like to be near the lounge, have a great view of animals, and convenient to things around the resort. I have a map, and think I'm even more confused now after looking a that!

The resort is not that big. We were on the 5th floor..kudos trail/arusha savannah. We had an excellent view. The walk to concierge lounge was very short. Concierge lounge over looks the lobby from the 6th floor, so kind of in the middle of the resort.

A savannah view is not guaranteed when you have concierge..you can request it, and they will do the best they can to get it for you. Although..a fairly easy task..since the resort is kind of 1/2 circle shaped and a lot of the rooms overlook the main (arusha) savannah.

One side of the 6th floor rooms..may have a pool view..even when we checked in..lol..the concierge cm told me..you don't want to stay up here..lol, you can't see anything.

We had a concierge room on 6th floor (6108) and had a full balcony, but the thatched roof obscured part of the view. At first I was disappointed, but the giraffes and the ankole cattle were right below us. Not only that, but they preferred to sleep there all night. The best views at AKL are the suites, but they are not all near the lounge. We were upgraded to a two bedroom suite two years ago. It was on the second floor overlooking savannah closest to the pool. If you are staying at AKL because you want to see animals and sit on your balcony just to watch them, go for the lower floors and savannah views. If you want concierge service, take the 6th floor, be aware that your view may be obscured, but you will be closer to the lounge for that early morning expesso/cappaccino machine! By the way, the concierge staff there is the best.

We had poolview, 6th floor. There was a roof below us that jutted outward ubstructing our view, but not by much. We had a great view of the poolo, which was very nicely lit at night. The lounge was about 10-15 steps away, it was awesome. We definitely will be staying there again!:)

Thank you all! This is good information. We like quiet areas and are going to use concierge for the food offerings more than relax around the resort. I want a quiet hall and and do hope to see some animals, but most day light hours we'll be in the park, I guess.

I loved being on the 6th floor! I have AKL as my wallpaper on computer and I count 6 rooms on the pool side. Believe the savanah side may have 8. We were on savanah and while it's not a lush pretty view (there's a dirt road that runs around it) we still saw giraffe, ostrich and the cattle. I probably spent about 5 minutes or less a day looking out.

But being so close to the lounge was wonderful. It was like having a great big living room outside your room.

If you have ressie or once you do, about 90 days out, call the concierge desk and ask that they make a note that you'd like 6th floor. Also on your ressie, tell CRO that your room request is 6th floor, 6th floor, 6th foor.

Lastly, when we stayed, the bellman took us way, way out to what is probably a beautiful savanah room on 5th floor. After he left us off, we went right up to the lounge and they found a 6th floor room for us. So ask if necessary.

Good luck and enjoy. We wanted to go back this November but the AP discounts are stingy this year on Conc rooms.

Aren't the 6th floor rooms smoking rooms?

The pool view sixth floor rooms are smoking, the savannah view sixth floor rooms are non smoking. It sounds like Hightown and I trade rooms! :) I prefer WAYYYY out there on the ends and beg for it in emails to concierge! I think it is great we all have different preferences. I am sure this makes it easier on the concierge CM staff to make us all happy since we're all different! :)

AKL's concierge lounge is extremely relaxing. I found excuses just to go up and have an ice tea and read a magazine. It was great having another space to relax in when we had just a normal savannah view room. (as opposed to a suite)

We love the AKL CL!!!!

5th floor, suites on the ends, and even the 6th floor!

We got to experience the 6th floor this last March and loved it.

Here's a pic from room 6209, which is the last room on the Sunset side with 2 queens.

Pics were taken with my camera phone but we loved being up there!
There are 15 rooms on the 6th floor, 9 face the sunset savannah and are non-smoking and the other 6 face the pool with the Uzima savannah in the background and are smoking optional rooms.
each side has a handicap/access room and one room on the poolside has 2 queens and a daybed, 6402.
the rooms with bunks are 6401,6404,6202, and 6208.
the rooms with king and daybed are 6207, 6403.

After looking at my notes, the two handicap/access rooms are
6203 with a roll-in shower and 6204 with a regular bathtub, but with more railing.
Both of those rooms are 2 queens and face the pool.

Thank you so much for all the help. We are really excited about our trip.
