Caught something on the news about this tonight.. They're saying "for now" the parks will remain open.. Not sure what that means..

I wonder if attendance is down due to the economy?

We usually go once a year but haven't been because of a combo of money, distance and my son not being able to find anyone to go. They do have some incredible ticket prices and rides but the trip from our house is nearly 2 hours so it's hard for us to get there.

We have a Six Flags near us, and according to local news reports, attendance has been excellent. It seems to me that when they took over Riverside Park, they had a LOT of renovation to do, and they added so many new rides. For a while it was a new, major ride every year. Then they built a large water park. I am wondering if they just took on a lot of construction debt. Hopefully, this is just an opportunity for them to reorganize.

I really hope they don't close down! They do have a lot of parks to run though...

Last time we went to Six Flags in Ga, it was horrible. It should be re-named Thug Flags over Ga. Good riddance to bad rubbish.

they are currently paying quite a settlement for that accident, I assume. and astronomical insurance rates after...

MIkeeee

Last time I went to the Great Escape up in Lake George (owned by Six Flags) it was a mess. Trash everywhere and employees arguing about whose break time it was.

Same thing with Six Flags America in MD:sad2: Was there once and the half the rides were broke down, most of crowds looked like they belonged in gangs, and the park security force had guns bigger than some of the cops i knew at the time:scared1:

Think I'm going back there. Good luck with that.

I agree with this as well. The park was full of this type. The employees were sitting around , leaning, etc. We only stayed a few hours. A few fights went on throughout the park and our daughter was in a stroller at the time so we left and vowed to never return. It was a 4 hour trip one way to get there and was not worth it at all.

I also will not be returning to the parks.

Last year I received a season pass along with my brothers, sisters, and cousins.

It would also be the last year I will be going to the park. The atmosphere is terrible! There was trash EVERYWHERE. Some people should've been thrown out of the park for their behavior. It was over-packed, and the lines for rides are ridiculous! We waited 2 hours to ride Superman: Ultimate Flight.

This is all at Six-Flags Great Adventure in Jackson, NJ. (They too, filed for bankruptcy.)

Ours ( Great America/Gurnee...Chicagoland) was nice when Marriott owned them....and I have seen SOME improvement over the last few years, but I agree with the rides breaking down, not the cleanest,we have the Hurricane Harbor water park, but the weather only cooperates for about 45 days ( if that) and tube rental etc is very expensive. Can't say much for the food as we usually pack a cooler and head out to the parking lot, but the prices seem pretty high. I guess once you have been to WDW and all the lush grounds, awesome themeing, smiling faces, it is hard to enjoy a regular them park. I was thinking of taking the kids as the tix are 2/1 right now, but htey said no...:confused3

I go to Six Flags over Texas at least once a summer - I went last week. I don't think it's really that bad. I only go for the thrill rides, not for the atmosphere. I go during the summer on weekdays and the park is usually pretty much empty. It only takes about 30-40 minutes to get there, so it's not a bad drive. I've only had one bad employee interaction, which is pretty good considering I've been there 5-10 times. I will agree the food price is extremely high, but sometimes we leave the park to go get lunch. They have a parking voucher online that you can print off so you only have to pay for parking once, regardless of how many times you come and go in one day.

We also have a Hurricane Harbor across the highway from Six Flags - that is a different story. The last time I was there it was dirty and disgusting. I remember being in the lazy river and there was trash and hair everywhere. It was gross. My friend went there last week and said it was really nice and clean, so maybe I should give it another try.

I'm not surprised at all. IMHO (and I've been to several Six Flags parks) none of them are spectacular (Magic Mountain is pretty cool). But Astroworld was, by far, the crappiest Six Flags ever. :scared1:

We broke down and bought season passes this year with the parking pass. We already got our moneys worth. In May we were at Great Escape and then a couple weeks later went to Great Adventure. My DD daughter also made it over to Six Flags over New England with school last Saturday. She likes Great Adventure the best. I didn't see anything wrong this year with the 2 I went to. I like Great Adventure better than Great Escape. Yes the lines were long at GA. That was the only complaint. Food is another thing but we didn't eat in the park at GA. We ate before we went in and bought the soda bottle so we got free soda all day. If we were hungary we went out to the car. Great Escape just opened up so we had a coupon from our season pass book for food. We ordered, got our food and went to pay. Their cash registers were not working correctly and after standing in line waiting for them to fix the problem maybe 10-15 minutes, they gave us our food for free so it cost us nothing to eat that day. It was a plus for us. Yeah! They don't come along too often. Hopefully we can get a couple more times in prior to closing but I don't see that happening as both have been busy.

I remember paying $40 for season passes to Great Adventure.... I guess it is a bit more expensive, these days, eh? ;)

I do miss Six Flags Great America in Gurnee, IL. IMO, the "thrill" rides at Disney and Universal don't even come close to Great America! The atmosphere does suck, but they have some AWESOME coasters.

Raging Bull will always be my favorite ride ever! It is just the smoothest, fastest, most exciting ride I've ever been on!

Season passes are $50 at the six flags near us (Md). The regular admission is $50, with BOGO all the time. The passes are good for the other parks as well.

We had passes last year. No it doesn't compare to Disney, but not all that bad. The coasters are great.

So the season passes are now the same price as the regular admission w/ BOGO? I think the regular admission was $15 "back then" and you got $4? off with a Coke can....
