I know a lot of folks here don't like Six Flags because it's not on the same level as Disney, but Disney is a looooong distance trip for us, and Six Flags New England is a do-able day trip. We go with different expectations and have a great time!

This year, we came across a really good deal, so we bought season passes, and these allow us go to other Six Flags parks as well. We're going to be driving out to upstate NY to visit family, and are thinking of breaking up the trip and stopping to try out Six Flags Great Escape (near Lake George).

But there are a dizzying array of places to stay there, and I don't know where to start! We want clean and safe, but don't need especially fancy, and will likely be staying two nights and spending the whole day in between at the park.

So, have you been there? Is there someplace you love and would recommend?

Be sure to come back and tell us how you liked it! I have a season's pass as well, and thought a nice long weekend there might be fun! I have to say that I have been pretty impressed with the Six Flags NE. My dd worked there last summer, and is there now. She's in entertainment. She has told me that she is constantly surprised at how many similarities there are to WDW. She is actually working with a guy who was the voice of Crush in Turtletalk with Crush!!! And many of the kids in entertainment head to WDW. My dd is in the fall, as part of the DCP.
I've found the park to be clean and well kept. Yes, some of the park staff are a bit rough around the edges, but I look at the area that the park is in, and it's understandable. Same with the park guests. Many in NE still think of the park as Riverside. So, they figure it's the same as it was then, and that's not the case. I do wish they would offer a few better food options though!!!

I can't comment on the places to stay since we either camp in the area or just drive the 45 mins home...

But we like Great Escape. It's a little run down, definitely not on par with Disney but it makes for a fun day. There are lots of rides and the water park is a lot of fun. I think you'll enjoy yourselves :)

One other thing... It is a very hilly place. Obviously there is a ton of walking at any park but this one is up and down a lot of hills so take that into consideration if there are any mobility issues.

We always stay at Surfside on the Lake, in Lake George Village.

It's neat and clean, and right on the water. You can park your car and leave it, since the shops and restaurants of LGV are an easy walk. As is Fort William Henry, the boat cruises on the lake, and the Thursday night fireworks at Shepherd's Park (though you can see them from the Surfside dock.) The outlets are an easy drive-- maybe 10 minutes??-- and Six Flags is probably a 15 minute drive.

Ooh, good to know! We don't have any issues, but it's helpful to plan for that kind of walking.

It is not as nice as it used to be before six flags took over. you can stay right in the great escape lodge which is right across the street from the park. They do not allow you to bring in food or water anymore and the food in the park is not good.

If you are looking for other fun things check out the glen drive in and pirate cove mini golf and go carts. there is a lot to do if you have lots of money

Definitely worth it! The park was very un-crowded the Friday we were there, and we had a great time! The water park was not quite as good as SFNE, but the main park area had some different rides than ours and a lot of statues and things left over from the old Storyland, USA - which was neat to see. (I'm now inspired to look up the history of the park!)

We ended up staying at a little place called the Studio Motel of Lake George - not right in the middle of things, but not a long drive off either. It was clean and quiet, with a pretty forest view in the back, and very reasonable.

If I go again, I'll build in a little more time to explore the rest of Lake George. There are lots of smaller attractions, all sorts of shopping, a historical fort tour, etc.

Thanks again for this tip. - It was spot on! I'm a big walker, but DH...not so much. He felt better about it forewarned.

We did arrive early enough on Thursday for a round of mini-golf (DS picked "Goony Golf") but we didn't really do anything before we left on Saturday because it was raining. I agree that there is tons available to do! I brought back a bunch of brochures to read before any future visits.

Thanks so much! That's great to know.

I've been to Six Flags parks in St. Louis and Arlington, TX. and enjoyed both.

As long as you don't go expecting Disney/Universal/BG type themeing, they're fine.

I'm glad you had fun. We're back up here in Lake George camping again(well its our last night). We didn't do anything more exciting than get overrun with chipmunks though :) (after the kids "chummed" the site with trailmix... Thanks Shark Week)
where are you guys camping when I was little we always camped at hearthstone point

We are doing the lake George rv park labor day weekend
I've looked at that one. It looks nice just not really our cup of tea. It's more RV resort-like(which is totally fine if that's what you like). We like our camper but we also still like to feel like we're camping. Adirondack Camping Village is nice and wooded... The sites have hookups but they're private...etc...

But have fun!

I will have to look into this it sounds like a fun place how far is it from the village. And would our 40 foot 5th wheel fit or is it for smaller campers
