I know this is mainly a Disney board but there are areas for Universal and other parks and I've seen a few posts dotted around about Magic Mountain.

So I was hoping some one would be kind enough to help me about disabled access, etc at Magic Mountain. The website is next to useless (it just says to visit guest relations on arrival). But that's not much use if you're trying to plan a trip in advance.

Anyone been? Or does anyone know where I can find some info?

We have Six Flags Great America near us. One thing I will note is that it seems the vast majority of the rides are thrill rides, so you need to be in good health and have decent upper body strength to ride. DD (the wheelchair user) LOVES thrill rides, but I bring a book and spend my day watching her purse. They have a little kid area too, but it's not like Disney where there are a wide variety of rides for adults and nice benches and theming for if you're waiting for someone. As far as getting onto the actual rides, my recollection is that you need to be able to transfer easily out of your chair (I assume you're wanting to know about wheelchair access). Some of the rides had sample seats out in front, so people could see if they met the height requirements, and also for larger guests to see if they are comfortable with the fit, so you could eyeball it and see. Also, a few rides are dependent on you standing up, like the stand up coaster (Iron Wolf at Great America) and a ride that spins around while you are strapped to the side. I don't know that DD would be safe to ride those, even if we could somehow get her on, so we skipped them. There was a good trip report about Universal by Bill Sears, and it showed some sample ride seats for the coasters. Those seats are similar to the ones you have to transfer into for Six Flags rides.

Good luck!

Thanks for your response.

OH is not a wheelchhair user, he can walk but with a LOT of difficulty and pain.

So transferring to/from rides is no problem, and upper body strength isn't an issue. I probably should have been clearer in my first post.

I was wondering how queueing works. Although it seems theme park queueing in the US is very different to that in the UK for disabled quests in general. Do they have GACs like Disney or something similar? I did a google search and found a review of Magic Mountain which mentioned disabled guests being able to bring a carer to the park for free. Does anyone know if this is true? The website doesn't say anything. I'd rather not pay for two full price tickets online now if we can just pay for 1 on the day.

Thanks in advance :-)

Under the Disneyland board is one for southern calfornia parks and they might help you there. Also try calling them and if you still get no answer and do not want to spend a lot of money then I can call for you. I am on the south side of the county, not far if you fly.
