What the.........????? I was looking for ideas of a long weekend getaway for this summer while DD14 is here for the summer (she lives with her dad) It's always a challenge since the others are so much younger to find something all can enjoy. I thought I would let her invite one of her girlfriends depending on what we do. I looked at Six Flags and the cost of admission is 60 bucks!!!! :faint: and $40+ for the little ones. We are talking almost $300 for 1day at an amusement park. You have got to be kidding me!!!! Then if we stayed over fuggedaboutit!!! I don't even like to go on the rides!!!!! I also need to be budget minded since we are going to WDW in April, I am surprising DD14 with a birthday weekend to WDW in May and I am doing a girls weekend with three friends in June again to WDW! Then in August, we are going to Storyland in NH for the weekend. I really want to be able to do something while DD14 is here but i know storyland ain't happening for her!! :rotfl:

That's when the board comes in....any ideas of where to go this summer not too expensive? We went to Ocean City, NJ a couple of summers ago for the day and that was nice but how is it to stay for the weekend? DH and I are not too big on the beach but I am open to it if the girls will enjoy it.

Wow that is high. Ours is around $40 and that includes admission to the water park. I don't like that they lump the two in together and then charge more. We get season passes, so that pays for itself in a couple of visits. We go often since we only live 15 minutes away. At ours you can usually get $12 off regular admission with a coke can. It has to specifically be labelled for it though. Also you can buy discounted tickets at grocery stores.

Unbelievable! Maybe it's an east coast thing? Cedar Point actually has prices a few dollars LOWER than last year!

Check into season passes. Then you could go for a couple of hours in the evening if you want to sometimes.

That said, our Six Flags (America) is -- um -- not very clean, and not necessarily a place I'd WANT to spend a lot of time at.

I know Six Flags great Adventure in NJ is really high. I'm not a big fan of the SF parks but I do like Kings Dominion and Hershey Park (minus the hills :rotfl2: )

Our one day passes are $45 and the one person season pass is $75. Most everyone around here goes for the season passes.

Coke was also doing the buy one get one free deal with a coke can the summer before last which was the last time I went. Keep an eye out for the deals maybe signup for the sixflags promotion newsletter!

WDW and Disneyland are expensive too - personally I think they're all overpriced! But with that said....Six Flags Magic Mountain (my local one) charges 59.99 for an adult, 29.99 for a child. The 59.99 admission is the same price as their annual pass, so though it seems high, it's actually a pretty darn good deal if you plan on going more than once throughout the year, and it's good at all Six Flags parks. You can also buy a one day pass online for 29.99, AND on top of that, there is a promotion going on now thru May 29th where if you buy your one day pass online, you get a free friend ticket. An even better deal. Personally, I love the rides and I wouldn't mind paying the 29.99 for a one-day pass. If I went more than once throughout the year, the 59.99 would be a great deal.

WDW and USF are as expensive. The difference is WDW and USF put imagination into the surroundings as well as the rides and the parks are a whole lot cleaner. You bake outside during the summer at the SF parks because the don't even bother to cover the waiting areas.

I have only been to Six Flag America (MD) and and Six Flags Great Adventure (NJ). I do enjoy the coasters but not the atmosphere.

YIKES -- that is high -- and that's whey we don't go there anymore. My DDs used to get a free ticket thru a reading program at school, but the cost for DH and I and our other DD, plus parking and food, made it at least a $175 day for us and the park is dirty, way overcrowded and we were only able to get on about 4 rides all day. I told the girls that we would not be going back there again, free tickets or not.

This is very true! But I don't mind visiting SF every couple of years. DL/WDW and SF are apples and oranges, and I'm a thrill seeker - that's where SF comes in! There isn't a ride anywhere in SF, DL or WDW that's thrilling enough to scream on! Ok, I take that back - the Tower of Terror! But that's about it!

Ummmm, yeah I'd have to agree.

I have a great idea for a 14 girl for a day trip....how about "Canopie Lake Park" in southern NH .It isn't that expensive and it's family oriented !!! I brought my 2 kids there the summer before last and they were DS15 and DD8. They had rides for young and old and it's just a nice clean family park. Sometimes you can find coupons too, during the summer at Dunkin Donuts or McDonalds! :thumbsup2 hope this idea helps ...another good idea...Duck Boats that tour Boston and then go into the Charles River !!! :thumbsup2

No one pays full price to get into six flags..there are always half off coupons, soda cans etc around..and even if you can't get one of those for the weekend you can always use the 10.00 off admissions for the weekends.
Wildwood NJ is a great place to go for a long weekend...

In the Chicago area it's only $97 to get a season pass, so $60 for one day per person seems really high to me.

The Six Flags website for Six Flags Over Texas is selling season passes for $45 + tax for certain area codes. I renewed our season passes today.

:goodvibes SF in NJ :crazy2: I grew up about 5 minutes away from SF in Jackson. When I was younger and teen years SF was great went back two years ago with my children EEEWWW gross!!! Extremely rude employee's that DID NOT speak english or chose not to. The place was filthy dirty they have minimal childrens rides they did away with bugs bunny land that had all the little rides and play areas!! With Kingda ka it is really a thrill seeker park ( if you can get pass the odor of major farts wafting through the air!! :crazy2: ) They also have minimal mid range rides like the scrambler!! Who gets rid of that??? Food also extremely expensive!! And yucko!! A burger with no cheese or fries or drink at all american cheeseburger was over 5 bucks!!! And looked like something someone stuck down their drawers and sat on!! and top of all of that we were walking with my youngest DS he was 2 at the time and someone dropped a lit cigarette from the sky ride which landed in his lap still burning!!! If I had not seen it fall out of the corner of my eye I get very angry and upset thinking how badly he could have been hurt!! I immediatly looked up and saw the car with laughing young men pointing at us and holding their hands over their mouths. Well me beign a hot head broke out in a run hollering up at them when a security gaurd stopped me and asked what the problem was. Well I told him and instead of radioing the ride operator to try to hold the guys he said well come with me and you can fill out a report if you want?? Well DUH!!! NO I want you to get them they are still on the ride!!! I emailed SF because we did invest in the family 4 pack that year. So I told them everything that happened and that we were extremely unhappy and they had the nerve to e-mail me back that they are on the same par as WDW!!!!!!!! uh no! Someone at SF is smoking crack!! If they believe that!! I would Highly reccomend Ocean city WE LOVE IT!! We rent a house there every summer and it is awesome!! Always clean always friendly even when it is super crowded it is always fun and everyone is always friendly employee's and guest's alike!! Also the ride tickets at both piers never expire!! We go down every year on easter weekend for the preseason sale $10 for 30 tickets so 100 bucks for 300 tickets is a good deal when so many of the rides are 2 to three ticket rides! They also have mini golf water park and go cart track! They do not sell tickets though over the internet!! :guilty: Very family friendly there is not a drop of alcohol in OC unless you rent a house and bring it in yourself! check out www.oceancityvacation.com Whatever you decide have a great time!

You can save $20 per ticket by buying online at six flags great adventure website. Here is a link:

http://www.sixflags.com/parks/greatadventure/TicketInfo/index.html

If you decide on Hershey Park, their adult admission is $42 pp.

http://www.hersheypa.com/attractions/hersheypark/admission/index.html

Another suggestion is Knoebels Grove Park in Elysburg, PA. There is no admission to enter the park. You only pay to ride the rides. The park is in a very scenic area. There is camping, swimming, and waterslides.

If you are a member of AAA, you can get discounted tickets for all 3 parks.
