Sitting here waiting for news on the storm

I'm sitting here stewing about what to do. We are supposed to fly into Orlando tomorrow afternoon for five nights at Portofino Bay. I keep reading other threads on this storm and it's getting scary - there is talk of 15 inches of rain and possible flooding. I was going to rent a car for this trip (as I always do), but I'm worried about flooding. I'm worried about the drive to PBH from the airport.

I lost my husband recently and this trip was supposed to help us relax from the ordeal. It's one thing after another. :sad2:

Accuweather says that it should just be cloudy by tomorrow afternoon. But if it is bad, you could just stay at an airport hotel. I would imagine that if you call Portofino Bay and tell them you are stranded at the airport, you shouldn't get charged for that night.

I wouldn't worry about driving from the airport. We're not flooded here in Orlando. I live less than 1/2 mile from the park and it hasn't been bad at all. The roads from the airport to here are fine and the winds haven't been bad. I am sorry to hear about the loss of your husband. Please do come. We may have rains until Friday but it isn't as bad as the coastal areas. The school are even in session in Orlando and the parks haven't closed.

We have been at the Royal Pacific since Monday with Fay - the storm that won't go away. Mostly we have had light rain with light wind with an occasional squall. There is no flooding in Orlando.

Everything is open except the hotel pool. The transportation boats from the hotels have never stopped. Most people are taking it all in stride wearing rain ponchos. The temps are warm so its not uncomfortable - just soggy.

We closed the parks last night - most rides were walk-ons with the worst a 10 minute wait (zero wait with express).

Lou

Thanks everyone. I feel a little better now. I've decided to to come as planned. Hopefully, the whole trip won't be a washout. I've packed the ponchos!

Wish us luck!

You are right! They do a better job than the News Press lately for Lee County! My husband no longer works for the NDN.. the drive was toooo long for him with the price of gas... he now works for the City of Cape Coral...
I was thinking about you and how you made out in this storm....

I know a ton of people that bought in Lee County because they couldn't afford to live here and now the cost of gas is killing them. I'm glad he got a job close to home. His leg ever heal up?
We have a couple of the real tall palm trees sitting in soaked ground and are leaning over the house and Faye created a leak around our chimney but that's our only damage.

You'll do fine. Hopefully the storm will be far enough away by tomorrow that we won't have to worry about it much any longer. :thumbsup2

I want to kick this storm in the head.

I have a marketing event today that may be cancelled because of the rain & wind. It's not major, it's just a big nuisance.

Yep, it sure is. The wind is heavier today than yesterday. Thanks to that, my event was canceled. :headache:

Watch the trees do not land on your roof. Charley did that fo us. Thankfully just leaned it on the house and not thru the house! Yes, his leg healed but he does have arthritis in it and cannot bend down or kneel on it :sad2: When he goes to the parks with us, it is for about 3 hours then back to the room for him.
So back to Fay... they say the rains we got today are from the bands. Did you get them down by you? We got some nasty storms this morning & this evening. :confused3 Worse than our acutal storm day.

Yup...this has been the worst day of the storm yet and hopefully the last! I'm so sick of this damn storm I could spit nails! :furious:

As long as there is no lightning & it is only raining, you can enjoy what ever attractions are open. If you start to see lightning, take cover. FL is the lightning captial of the United States (and maybe world ).. I was going to put US but didn't want it to look like Universal Studios ;)

I need to call my sister & mom, they are up in Flagler County. I have to see what they are getting. I know my friends MIL just moved to my coast sfrom Melbourne & her friends are still there. One called and said her old street was closed and they had 30 inches of water on her street! :scared1: Thank goodness she moved or her home would have been flooded out...

called my mom.. she is in Palm Coast. She said they got basically nothing. Very little wind this afternoon & no rain. She said it was sunny out today. She is thinking maybe they may get something tonight. The way the path looked, it looked like they were going to be hit too...

OK...I don't think we live in Florida any longer. We now live in T.S. Fay since she apparently likes it here. I'll start on the paperwork in the morning to change Florida's name to T.S. Fay. :rotfl:

Are these bands you are feeling? That is what they said we are getting. I think the rains from these bands are worse than the origianl storms.

I suppose it's still band. It's just a steady drizzle now.

Anyone got extra buckets?

Orlando schools are cancelled tomorrow. It's been worse today than the other days of the storm. We've had some heavy winds and flooding today.

It's about time they cancelled schools! I wouldn't have let my kids wait in the pouring rains and winds yesterday...that's silly. I know a lot of parents were upset.

It rained here yesterday but the worst is behind us. I was in Miami Sunday and they canceled school for Mon. and Tues. by noon Sunday. We closed school Tuesday but always wait until the last minute. By the way- I love touring the parks in foul weather gear when it rains hard (without lightning). It is way cool to have the park to yourself.

WOW,just walked outside to check out the yard and a good 40mph gust blew my hat 100yards down the road!!!!!
