I have a friend that is going to be a bridesmaid and possibly my maid of honor. (My best friend and soon to be sister in law will be brides maids and I can't decide which one to make maid of honor). Angie is a cancer survivor and due to the treatment for graft-vs-host she has had both hips replaced, and has bad knees. Needless to say she has some difficulty with standing for long periods of time. She is such a sweetheart and would never say anything, but I don't want to make her stand during the ceremony. I was talking with my parents tonight and one thing we thought about was providing chairs for all the bridesmaids and groomsmen, that way we are not singling her out. And it would be more comfortable for them as well.

Does that sound like an okay idea? I know the tradition is that somebody is standing with the bride and groom, but surely sitting down would not be a big deal.

Sounds like a great idea to me. And since everyone would be sitting, she would not feel "singled out" at all.

I think its a fine idea!! WOuld even show more emphasis on the two standing ;)

My dad has neuropathy due to diabetes, and I'm also concerned with him standing on the side of my fiance... so I think it is a win-win for everyone :)

Sounds great, just wanted to say in most Catholic weddings, everyone sits anyway, so it has been done before :)

Yes and at non-catholic weddings in England the front pews in the church are where the bridal party sits, so they are at the front but with the other guests. It is only the bride and groom standing except for during the vows, when the maid of honor and best man (only) come to the front with the couple. The other bridesmaids/groomsmen remain in the pew.
