Sitting Allowed While Waiting for Park Open?

On our last trip we did Disney Springs on arrival day, and then RD to close for 5 straight days, and by the end, our feet were killing us. So for our upcoming trip in May, we've taken steps to mitigate that - including expanding to 10 days to allow for breaking things up with rest days. One of the things that contributed to foot soreness was the time spent standing for long periods while waiting at the tapstiles for the park to open. So, with it seemingly becoming necessary to get to the parks earlier and earlier, I'm wondering; if we brought small, inflatable seat cushions, would we be allowed to sit on the ground while waiting in line for the park to open?

Good to hear.

I wouldn't think it would be an issue, but there have been some waiting areas inside the parks where we've been told we couldn't sit down, so I just wanted to see if people had been able to do so at the tapstiles.

I wouldn't worry. I suppose it's possible but all that will happen is you'll be asked to stand up :)

Don't be surprised if people trip over you though - or go around you when you are starting to stand up when the turnstiles open, etc. Generally, in large crowds, it is safer to stand.

Totally agree with this! Thing it is a safety issue for you and those around who might try going around you when line starts to move- but it’s your decision.

Seeing how people are constantly pushing and moving near the tapstiles, I would not want to be sitting in that area.
I agree that people will move around you, or trip over you, stepped on, etc.

When it has gotten crowded in the past - we have been made to stand due to safety issues. We were able to sit until the crowds built past orderly lines. Didn't take cushions but sat on our coats/sweatshirts for padding.

We are going in January and both of us are having back issues now which makes standing very hard (walking oddly isn't an issue) - so we are debating either scooters or one wheelchair and take turns sitting as needed. We are planning on being at HS every day so we can ride RotR multiple times over our 3 day stay - so the RD wait is an issue.

I don't think anyone will say anything when the crowd is just building up. When it starts to get unruly as people push toward the front for the opening they might tell you to stand for safety reasons, but really you should at that point anyway.

I'd imagine when/if there's not a lot of people around it's not an issue.

Once enough people show up you end up becoming a tripping hazard and safety risk. If you feel you'll need to sit for a long time I'd go to the side and only enter the crowd when you feel comfortable to stand. That of course would mean you'd lose some if not all of the advantage. If you get there and there's not a crowd at that time you could probably sit for a bit but I doubt it'd be for too too long before you'd need to stand.

Another option might be to plan to get there at about 5-10 minutes after park opening. Then you won't have to worry about waiting in the pre-park opening line, but you are still there early to take advantage of the lower crowds. This is usually what we do, especially for MK.

If the demand is anything like it is now (and it may well be) getting more than one Boarding Group a day isn't going to be possible. So for your 3 day stay you'll be tied to HS for most of the day, or need to be close by (maybe at EPCOT) in order to make your 2 hour slot.

Our plan is Epcot for our second park and going back and forth - with a limited Epcot ride list. We are planning one day at MK so might not get to that day. We are also early bird so right now the plan is 2 hours prior to open but we will keep watch on the reports as we get closer

I was at Hollywood Studios last Saturday and Sunday before opening and they were continually yelling at people to stand up. No sitting allowed. It was pretty surprising.

I know at Hollywood Studios they were not allowing anyone to sit while waiting for the gates to open. Magic Kingdom I have also seen them yell to stand up.

I sit on the ground a lot. When waiting in longer lines, when waiting for a show, when waiting for fireworks, and when waiting for the bus. Never been a problem as long as I get up when appropriate.

I have sat outside parks waiting for RD and unless it is packed, it’s not an issue during times when lines are still orderly. But when the masses arrive, it’s time to stand :)
