Can someone give me a suggestion for a campsite for one night for our trip down from NJ to FL? We're looking for somewhere at about the half-way point (NC, SC) just to sleep before heading down to FW in July.

Thanks for any help!!! :flower:

SANTEE STATE PARK is a beautiful South Carolina park along the banks of Lake Marion. As it is just 6 miles off of I-95 we thought this would be a nice stop on the way to Disney World. We were right!

The park has two camping areas, one directly on the shores of the lake and another a short distance away. All sites have water and electric with a dump station in each campground.

Upon arrival we selected a site at the end of a road which was wooded on two sides affording the most privacy. The site boundaries are not well defined and a site can expand or contract as needed. The roads and parking areas of the sites are gravel.

While the focus of the park is fishing, bike and hiking trails are available. A short drive away is the Santee outlet mall along side I-95.

With I-95 crossing Lake Marion close by, vehicle noise can be heard in the distance at times. I did notice it but did not feel it was annoying.

We may be asking the same question in a few months!

That park looks very nice and mapquest says it's 10 1/2 hours from our part of NJ.

Since we just have a popup we may just find a motel along the way.

When we went down in Nov we stayed at South of the Border both directions. It is exactly half way for us. I know that some people avoid it because it just looks like a big tourist trap, but the campground was nice for a place to sleep. We paid $20 for a nice paved pull through. It was great to not have to spend a lot of time parking and leveling.

We have stayed a number of times at South of the Border Campground and they have the best rates and it is near a store and other facilities (gas station). Not too much to recommend for restaurants, as we have eaten at 3 of them and they aren't the greatest. The best place to gas up on your way down is at Flying J's around 10-20 miles south...one of the best prices you will find on 95!

We stay at the KOA in PT SOUTH, SC. It is about a half hour to the GA line and takes about 5 hours to get to WDW. We have been stopping there for the past 6 or 7 years and we look forward to getting there every time ALMOST as much as WDW. It is very quaint and small with a nice pool and hot tub. It also has a small lake in the back that they warn you to keep small dogs away from due to the gators. We have only seen babies..but that in itself was exciting!! Have fun whereever you stop!! We will be at the KOA in PT SOUTH in 4 more days!! I can't wait!!

The KOA at Florence, SC is a common spot for overnighters from the North heading to WDW. It is easy access off 95. Clean and reasonable, nice owners. We also like to stop at the KOA in Savannah, GA if we can make it there. Also clean, a frequent stopover point for people headed to FL, easy access to 95, and a pretty short hop to WDW the next morning, but a brutal first day drive from the great white north. Always my goal to make it this far, but have only made it twice.

We have stayed in both KOA Florence Sc and Point South SC. Florence is right off the road so you may have road noise and over nighters are usually right up front. Point South is great but if you are pulling in late and pulling out early you will miss lots of fun. We have seen the alligators and after a long drive the pool and hot tub are relaxing, the sites are shaded and off the road. There are alot of services at both exit ramps. Alot depends on when you are tired and need to stop too. Point South you do have to cross a dual highway off access road to get back to the 95 ramp in morning. Just be aware that you have time to get both truck and trailer across. Traffic can be a little busy depending on the time of day. Have a fun and safe trip.

Wow! Thanks for all the great advice! It sounds like any KOA is a good stop and we might just see just how far we can make it. My DH and Dad drove straight through last time from NJ and they were wiped out the day we arrived, so we thought a stopover would be better.

Thanks again!

I would recommend:

We've gone there for weekend getaways! It is truly wonderful. 2 pools, hot tub, lots to do and see if you have ANY extra time. You can even stop by Disney's Hilton Head Island resort.

Good luck! :Pinkbounc
