Do people usually bring their own fire pit to have a fire? Does the campground sell wood? Is this even practical?............

People do bring their own, but remember it has to be enclosed (screened) with a top. There may even be times, do to extremely dry conditions, that you can't use it.

No wood is sold at the Fort.

Keep in mind the Fort has a campfire program every evening. You can bring your own smores supplies if you want, and they have Chip n Dale and show a movie. It's really fun.

We used to bring an enclosed firepit with us (because we usually can't camp without having a fire), but found at Disney we just didn't use it. We were either off somewhere having fun, or if we were around the campground we'd just wander over to the campfire program. We stopped bringing it as it just took up space and weight and wasn't getting used.

Each site has the charcoal grill. We often use that, but just for cooking.
I agree with Dave that a fire is a must when camping, except at the Fort. Plus, after being in the Florida heat all day I don't really feel like cozying up to a nice warm fire!

I've thought about bringing one too but due to the mess and not knowing if there are restrictions due to dry conditions when you get there I've never bothered. It's actually kind of nice for a change, just my opinion, to not have smoke blowing all over the place while at the Fort.
I would enjoy the Chip and Dale campfire and save the space for something else to haul down there.

If you do decide to bring one, verify if there are any restrictions regarding bringing wood into Florida if you want to bring from home. Many states now have restrictions against transporting firewood from other states due to various type of insect infestations that can be transferred. You may have to locate a local source of wood while at the Fort.

I do have a fire pit that has a lid and I just LOVE mine. Yes, there is a campfire every night at the outdoor theater, but it is surrounded by kids with long sticks and flaming marshmellows that make me a nervous wreck!

My son and I have my fire pit all to ourselves and it is just wonderful to sit under the stars and night and quiely chat around our private campfire.

Make that long 'pointy' sticks, you'll put an eye out!:rotfl2: Also waving flaming marshmallows around tend to set the person next to you on fire. I have also seen sword fights and kids using them to dig in the dirt at the campfire, then turn around and stick marshmallow on the end, yum!
