Sister Wives

In fairness, none of the older kids seem to still be adherents of FLDS in general, which pretty much eliminates polygamy then and there. Logan and his girlfriend (maybe now wife) lived together and did their own thing, Mariah is gay and has a non-religious partner, Maddie married an evangelical Christian and Mykeltie and Aspen married regular Mormons. Whether or not that was a back-lash against polygamy specifically isn't clear.
Yeah but for them to have grown up in it and that's all they've known, you'd think at least one of them would have gotten some sort of blessing along the way that made them want to live that lifestyle? I mean think about how hard it is when you grow up and it's time to decide for yourself which church you want to go to. I know for me, I tend to gravitate towards Southern Baptist simply because that's what I know. I've gone to many different kinds but I always feel a pull towards my roots for the most part. We tend to think that whatever our parents and family did, must be the right way because we trust our parents and think they know everything (provided you come from a generally loving home and I can only go by my own experience) and we think, "surely they wouldn't lead us astray so this must be right". It's HARD to think that your parents and grandparents were only human too, and maybe they didn't have it right. If there even is a right. I dunno, I'm just rambling. lol I used to work beside a Mormon girl and I loved to ask questions about her religion. I even went with her to church one day and I was shocked that every single person that took the podium started out with, "When I first knew the church was true....". I'm sorry if there are any Mormons here but to me that alone felt too cultish to me. I thought, "Why are they saying this over and over? Of course they think the church is true, they're members. Who are they trying to convince?" I absolutely love their family values and sense of community but yeah, it's a cult. lol Anyone watch Big Love back in the day? It told every single Mormon secret in the book! From the head guy sticking his face into his cowboy hat and coming out with a "revelation" to the Peculiar Purple Pieman of Porcupine Peak outfits that they are buried in that no one outside the clan is ever supposed to see. I find it all fascinating.

I remember the wives saying in an episode a while back that if none of the kids tried polygamy then it was like they failed. Or did they not show them how great polygamy can be.

if I remember correctly the only one who wanted to do polygamy was Mariah but I don’t think she’s for it anymore.
Yep, I remember that plain as day.

I think Christine creates most of her own drama by finding problems that aren't really there. Jealousy will eat you up. She used to be my favorite but all her BS made me switch to Janelle.

I was done with Christine way back when she was all over-the-top about writing their "family mission statement." A mission statement? Seriously? It was just so ridiculously stupid.

Ex Mormon here. “I know the Church is true” is standard for all testimony and prayer. Kind of like the ending of prayers, “In the name of …” It’s funny, I’ve never really thought about it but you make some valid points as far as purpose.

And you’re right about the man in the family supposedly “seeing/knowing” the way. The way they were all raised they feel his word is divine. He uses that to take advantage of the situation and get things the way he wants them. His problem now and why he was so angry in his couch interviews is that they’ve had a taste of a world where most don’t see things that way and they’re starting to push back. If I had to guess that was the real reason for that visit to Utah. To remind them how it’s supposed to be.

Oh wow that's really interesting! I think you're so right on about them getting a taste of the world outside their bubble. I think that's why the girl I worked with wouldn't take any clients unless they were referred to her by someone she knew or someone from church, and when her clients came in, she pulled up a chair right in front of them and sat and talked in whispers only to them. She very much tuned out the rest of the salon. As nice as she was, she didn't participate in much that the rest of us did, no matter how innocent. I remember joking with her about how they were going to make her get naked under a sheet and rub oil on her when she went for her endowments and she didn't believe me because her parents wouldn't tell her what to expect. Well, she came back to work and wouldn't talk about it. A few years later she started talking about how she would never go to the temple again. I laughed and asked her if it was because they rubbed oil on her and all? She started dancing around like she was grossed out and yelled, "YEEEESSSS!!!" lol. I think the church knows that if they hang around with people "in the world" unless they were pretty much witnessing to them, that they might get taught to think for themselves too much. I wondered if by the Brown family being so 'worldly" if it wouldn't make the lives they've tried to create crumble around them and it seems to be happening. Thanks for your insight!

If anyone recalls the nacho comments about Christine knows that marriage was not happy from the beginning.
I'm sure I'll regret asking. But what were the nacho comments?

Well, then I have a hunch they have failed. They certainly have not made it look appealing. I feel really bad for the youngest kids. I bet they'll be pushed hard to adopt the lifestyle just so the parents don't look like failures.

Kody is never settled.
Yes. And it's a huge problem in that family. Because they live a lifestyle that sets the man up as the single leader, they are all dragged along on every one of his whims. That's way too many people to be dragging along on his flights of fancy. What they're dealing with now is fallout from that.

In the book, Kody talks about how he met each wife and when he got to Christine, he talked about how she was chubby if I remember correctly and how she was in the back seat of his car with a group of people and she had ordered nachos and he was looking at her in the rearview mirror eating those nachos with reckless abandon and having cheese all over her face and how repulsed he was by it.

It was just embarrassing if you were THAT wife and that's the story he chose to tell about how you met.

It quoted me with the nacho comment but I didn’t say that. But dang now I remember. Was that the same time he said he wasn’t attracted to Christine at first? It was on one of those end of season Q&A episodes? I remember Christine being so upset and taking her mic off and leaving.

Oh dang. I don't even know what happened with that quote. I fixed it. Sorry!

Ooh. I'm sorry I asked. Anybody with a brain, or an ounce of respect for his wife, would never let that story see the light of day. Even if that's how it happened.

Kody is a jerk who just wants to have fun and easy relationships. He wants to swoop in and play with kids and have an adoring wife who wants to serve him. He admitted that he doesn’t want to work on a relationship when he has other easier ones available to him. Christine really wants to be the only wife at this point no matter what she’s said in the past. They definitely are not an advertisement for plural marriage.

I agree here. In the Mormon religion, the man is the Priesthood holder of the household so basically, what he says goes and they've all said it before, Kody is never settled. He keeps searching for the dream and makes them move over and over again. I really hope they get the big house because they'll never be able to sell it and he'll have to let those women settle down finally. I love the idea of the big house and I think it's stupid of them to look at those plans and not see that it's like a giant apartment building with a big club house built in! It's the exact same as separate houses right beside each other but with actual consideration for your exhausted husband built in. I mean didn't he say it would be cinder block walls? You wouldn't be able to hear a peep. Hell, I want to move into the big house! lol

The family that they visited all lived in that house and it was not grossly large, Kody has big crazy *** dreams and no money. Does anyone know what the man does for a living?

He was just making me madder and madder. You can tell he speaks to the camera as if he thinks the world is going to sympathize with HIM. I like the guy, and I like his personality etc...but 9 times out of 10 he is wrong. I like Robin but I do think it was a big mistake marrying her. If I had been the other wives, I would have balked at the fact that she already had kids and they had umpteen to feed already. It seems like this would be so much easier and less stressful if each wife (other than Meri) wouldn't have felt the need to have 5 and 6 kids each! I know they think it's their mission, to rush God by getting the "predetermined amount of souls out of heaven and onto earth so Jesus will come back lol) but I can't imagine how much it costs to run that family? I think Kody thrives on drama and chaos and I've dated someone like that. The minute things seem like they are falling into place and going smoothly, BAM! They up and do something so unbelievably stupid to cause a big rift....then sit back and claim to not want anything to do with the drama. It's really annoying. How many times have we watched him check out after he uproots his entire family? I'm surprised some of his children don't hate him. I'm just aggravated at him not wanting to think about it and wishing he could sell the property. Those women need to take over and get it done. Meri is still doing Meri. If I hear her say, "I don't know" one more time, I'M going to ask her to leave! lol

I watched last night. So much time spent on how the miscommunication between Kody and Meri happened. I found that really annoying. Kody mentioned something about the pond and protecting the interest of the other wives. I’m a clear communicator so would have just told Meri she wasn’t being put near the pond because the entire family wants access to the pond.

Kody is a drama hurricane. He’s the biggest problem in the family.
