Sister Wives

Count me in as another one who can't turn away from this trainwreck....

Did anyone else notice Cody sleeping with a child in his arms in the midst of the chaos of one of the parties? You have umpteen children who could all use a little time and attention and you're sleeping?!?

All the older girls seem very scarred by having to move at what is a formative age for kids and just want to get the heck out of dodge right now. What kind of an incoming freshman is offered a job that she needs to be at "right away" after high school graduation? I thought the fact that she cleaned out her entire room to take with her was very telling.

I'm betting that Janelle will be out of there the minute that her last kid leaves the nest. She obviously has some VERY deepseated issues. It reminds me of those early episodes where her oldest son got the other kids up fed and off to school in the am because she was the only other adult working a full time job outside the house.

I thought both the lip synch and home movie were HORRIFYING and can't imagine doing that to my graduate! Especially the bad Maddie/good Maddie thing, really, you want to drag all that dark history out into the light of day on what should be the happiest day of her life, especially now that she's turned her life around?

And when the middle daughter talked in interview, I thought "who is she"? We seem to see the oldest ones and the littlest ones, but never the middle ones!

I won't even go into the shop owner "flirting" with Cody (shudder)....

And yet I continue to watch!

Terri

The shop owner was not interested in Cody......she wants to marry one of the women Cody is married to (and she told Cody she was not going to tell him which one, lol) :)

I completely agree with you on the older kids. As soon as they are turning 18, they are GONE! You can tell they just want out of that train wreck as soon as they are legally able to. The oldest son acts as if he can't even stand to visit them. It's a good thing TLC came along and provided them notoriety, money and view of the outside world to do it.

Cody seems to sleep quite a bit. He was also sleeping during mid-day when the youngest was admitted to the hospital for kidney failure.

One more thing--I agree, the movie was a terrible idea. She thought her parents were going to do a silly lip synch and then she watches a "reenactment" of her depression--in front of all of her friends at her graduation party? Not cool. I felt terrible for her. No wonder she is leaving home only a week after she graduates!

Okay, this truly is my last thought.....the jewelry. Sigh. It's like they are catering to the favorite child in the family :headache:

I felt so bad for Maddie! I can't believe that with 5 adults putting that together, didn't even one of them think that it might hurt her feelings and embarrass her in front of her friends?:confused3

It doesn't surprise me that they haven't taken the money from the investors that they were working with. Those guys are basically loan sharks to some extent. They are lending to people who normally would never get funding to start their business so of course the contract is written in their favor. The sad thing is that with the show on and the number of hits on their website they could be making a fortune if they had a product that people wanted to buy.

I felt so sorry for Maddie all the way around. The video made me cringe and it wasn't about me. I felt sorry as she was packing all by herself. My DD18 graduated last May and is currently home on break and watched with me. Her comment, "I feel so spoiled watching her do all that by herself. If they're really a family then she has 5 parents and still no help."

Janelle seems to have raised smart kids who have it together (Maddie and the oldest boy are hers, right?) hopefully they'll use their brains and maturity RUN as far as possible.

Once the show ends, I see Janelle getting out of there. There has never seemed to be any connection between her and Cody, she's worked to support herself before, and it's clear that she feels like a second class citizen within the family.

Robin and Mari get on my nerves no end. They are so whiny and seem to get all Cody's attention.

Neither of the polygamy shows make you believe that it's a lifestyle that works. They call themselves a family but jealousy and hard feelings rule the day.

I kinda disagree. Their web-site traffic is driven solely by the curiosity of the people who watch the show. Very little of it likely represents "qualified" buyers, regardless of what they're selling. Heck, I've looked at it several times myself and was certainly not planning to buy anything. The entire idea was very misguided; the product is totally self-indulgent and they (mostly Robin) misjudged the "goodwill" of viewers, expecting that to generate sales. The one thing that always makes me shake my head whenever the show features "the business" is why nobody ever just comes out and says "this was a dumb idea and it's not going to work - give it up now". :confused3

I finally watched the show. I agree with others here that it's very interesting (and sad) to see these kids growing up. I will be curious to see how many scatter to the wind.

I cheer for every one of those girls who gets out the door. I have no doubt that the oldest girl in each "family" has had to take on far more around the house watching the younger siblings than is reasonable. Basically you have 4 single parent families there with more than the average number of kids. I'm sure the older kids really had to pick up the slack.

They are a family with lots of financial needs and no money saved for college. They live in Las Vegas so I'm sure there are schools close by. I wonder why none of them have chosen to save the money and commute. I mean..... they all live in big spacious houses.......... :lmao:

Totally agree.

I didn't understand why the two girls graduated on separate days. Didn't they attend the same high school :confused3. I can sort of appreciate having two different parties, (but that is also a waste of money), but how did they end up with two different graduation dates?

I pathetically don't know how to quote but in answer to your question, the two girls go to different high schools. They mentioned it briefly when they were talking about the first graduation. I never heard why that was the case though. Does anyone know?

I would have to imagine that either they go to private/public or private/private schools, hence the two different ceremonies. I often wonder if there isn't as much "hate" as "love" between the "siblings" that are close in age, so maybe they specifically did not want to go to the same school. It has to be hard to watch your mom struggle financially and emotionally, and share in the responsibility of raising younger siblings.

Also the TLC season is short. Sure someone may peruse their website after watching their show but then there are no episodes on for months where I'm sure they get very few hits. They are not well enough known that people think about them when the show isn't airing.

Quite awhile ago they said something about her getting in a dual enrollment program at a local college

This episode was just painful to watch!

I think I am done, I deleted the series recording. It just felt like punishment to have to continue.

:sad2:

I could be wrong but it seems like so far this is the Robin and Cody show. It really annoys me that he won't have a baby with Meri, but is begging Robin to have a baby. Janelle seems to be slowly checking out or maybe that just how I see it. Christine in my honest opinion just wants friends so badly this was the only way she could get them.

How hard is it for Cody to just tell his friends that Christine's feelings were hurt and see if he can apologize. He can explain it in a respectful manner. I guess I'm just shocked because if one of my hubbies friends said something that hurt me he wouldn't think twice in defending me. She isn't being totally unreasonable and the princess comment was so mean. Cody isn't even considering how the issue makes her feel.

...and again with the "business". A friend with a business of his own is lending them $100,000 :scared1: He's willing to take the jewellery they plan to buy with it as collateral. Given their past financial history and how monumentally unsuccessful sales are to this point all I can say is "Wow". This presumes that their "problem" is production capacity to keep up with orders and from everything that's ever been said up to now, that really doesn't seem to be what's holding them back. Lack of demand for their junk is and I totally don't see what having $100,000 more of it will help.

I can't believe they found someone to give them a line of credit for $100,000. Im sure the whole conversation wasnt aired but it was almost as if they were asking to borrow 50bucks and the guy said yes. And really? Using the jewelry as collateral. He's gonna be the owner of a whole lot of trinkets. Worse case, he can stuff them in eggs and set up a whole bunch of gumball machines. I'd buy one for 25cents...lol

I'm probably in the minority, but I feel like Christine made a huge deal out of nothing. The other wives made it seem he was just being stupid when he said it. A very easy solution is for Christine just to excuse herself when he's around. Why stop everyone else fun?

If the criteria for friendship is to only have friends that agree with your lifestyle, then I would think they would pretty much all be friendless. Most of Cody's family are LDS and don't support polygamy. I know Christine had her feelings hurt but I think she should have just sucked it up. Even those friends who don't say something similar, are probably thinking it or saying it to others. She lives in a polygamous family and I would think she would be used to people saying negative things about their lifestyle, both friends and family members. I have just never understood why anyone demands an apology. Any apology that you have forced someone to give is not sincere anyway. My style would have been to make friends with Cody's boyhood friend and try to help him see just what a great person I am. And then if I still felt hurt, I would tell him myself. Then he has the opportunity to offer an apology if he truly wants to. Demanding that my husband tells someone to apologize to me does sound kind of like a Princess attitude. Her pouting affected everyone in the family not just herself and Cody.
