I got the setup for DH for XMas and I was wondering what type plan you all have?
Do you pay monthly, or are you under contract for a year or two?
I was thinking of getting the lifelong subscription for around $500.
What do you think? I always wonder if something better is going to come along when I get those lifetime subscriptions. He has XM in his car already, but this Sirius is a portable boombox type thing that can be taken anywhere.
Thanks!

The first year, I had the one year plan. Now I am on the 2 year plan. You can use the lifetime service on up to 3 radios, but I think every time you switch it, you have to pay $75.

If you are on a yearly plan it costs nothing to change it.

So depending on how often you would consider changing radios, the lifetime could end up being a great deal.

I just got this for Christmas...I took the one year plan..If I like it ( so far I do ) next year I will get the 2 year plan.
I don't know about the lifetime plan...I don't like to live that far in the future...LOL!

Before you pay for the lifetime, make sure you like it first. DH has gotten me Sirius for Christmas and I am already listening to it.

There is an issue with reception, fyi.

I have no problems with reception. Is it a reception issue, or an interference issue? I used to think it was a reception issue until I plugged it directly into my cassette player. WHen I get my new unit installed in my car, I am putting in a relay switch that shuts off the FM antenna when the unit is on.

I drove from the middle of CT down to south Jersey without losing reception once.

We paid the year in advance (you get a month free). We love it, but I am holding off on a lifetime subscribtion because of the $75 fee to change out receivers. Hopefully soon I will be getting my own receiver and will be adding a second user to our plan!!! :cool1:

We have had NO issues with the reception. The car antenna is mounted on DH's truck roof and our home antenna is actually inside a window (we didn't even need to put it outside).

DH has it and got the one year plan. He did mention that lifetime offer but it was a lot of money for something that he hadn't tried yet.

He has it in the car and he also has the boombox to use indoors. Did you know that you can not only watch a football game, you can also listen to another game on the radio at the same time?? Sundays are so much fun around here. ;) :teeth: :rotfl:

only problem I have is when I am under an overpass for an extended period...I also found a better FM channel that it transmits to

The football is why I bought it for DH (that and Howard Stern), it was a compromise to getting Direct TV. LOL

I have Sirius installed in my new car........I paid for a year as I want to see how it works out. So far I have not noticed any problems with reception, but I will be driving soon and will be taking notes on whether I do or do not have issues with the reception.

I thought it was interesting when I went to hook it up, I could barely understand the technician....I had to ask him to slow down as his English was not great and he was talking so fast...my old ears were having a real tough time. I finally called my husband and let him handle it. I wonder where the service is from?

PS...I got it for the Elvis channel. no Howard Stern here, I love the two comedy channels and then there is a channel with showtunes.....fun, fun, fun.

Hmm I have no idea about the service. We did the intalls ourselves and I did the activation online (saved $5).

DH LOVES the Elvis channel.

I also installed myself...and activated online

I too got it for Howard...but I love listening to CNN during the day and having my favorite songs in memory so that when they are played, I can switch right to them!

Wait a minute. Are all of you saying that it broadcasts something other than sports?? ;) :earseek:

Just kidding. I love the 60's station, which DH will play for me (but not on Sundays.) :teeth:

I have sirius but have not hooked it up. I was waiting for howard to switch over. Can anyone tell me if you have to pay a year in advance or do they make you pay monthly?

thanks

January 9th is the start...I have really enjoyed listening to his "Howard 100 News" it will be nice to not have to hear hom through the static that I have now

WOW! I didn't realize how much it had gone up. I bought my husband Sirius for his birthday in August 2004 and paid $299 for the lifetime membership. He absolutely loves it and he won't replace his radio until it breaks so the $75 switch fee is not a big deal.

I want to be able to listen in my car and home. What would be the best (and cheapest) radio to get?

Reception is an issue in your home. I don't have in the car yet. I was on the Sirius site and reception is a major complaint.

The plug-and-play that I bought my DH is the Sportster Replay. We love it because it has game alerts for our teams. The screen is nice as well, big enough for info but not too big. And the blue backlighing is pretty cool.

I am waiting to get the S50 once it becomes fully portable (meaning you can listen to Sirius live instead of recorded content even when it's not plugged into a cradle).
