Sirius Radio ?

The timing on this thread is awesome. We just picked up our new car last night and we got the 3 free months also. I'm glad to know what a "good" offer is when it's time to become a paying subscriber. Thank you all for your info.:cool1:

I just got a new company car (ford taurus) and it has the sirius I thought I had it for a year? I didn't ask about it when I got the car, but when DH got his avenger he had a free subscription for a year.

Anyway I love it I am in my car all day long and sometimes I have to drive 2-5 hours for appts and it is nice to listen to a station that doesn't cut out when you leave the area. I like listen to talk radio when I am in the car so I love Sirius for the CNN, Fox News, Rosie Radio, Dr. Laura (that is all I have found so far, I have only had the car 2 weeks)

Anyway I still think $12 a month is crazy for satelite radio and I know I would get the use out of it, maybe $5 or $6.

We have 2 accounts for both cars plus internet. I love it and can not be without it. We are making several trips by car this year and to not have to hear those pesky stupid commercials is well worth it to us. Plus they have real time traffic reports for major cities. :thumbsup2

DH's subscription was due to expire 01 June with a $164 renewal fee. DD, who is a CSR with a major cable company, called to see what discount Sirius would offer for a 5-year customer.

They offered five months for $25, with a pro-rated rebate for the period 06 May-01 June, for a total of $18.34 for five months. The CSR reminded DD to call back in mid-Sept to re-negotiate the $164 yearly fee.

He didn't have to do the reminder, and because it wasn't a sale, he got no commission, so DD spoke with the CSR's supervisor to make sure he got an "atta boy" for good customer service. (This kind of recognition is important at review time and when the CSRs bid for work shifts.)

Got my free three months, then renewed at the 5 mos. for $25. When I called about a second renewal got Mr. Crabby customer rep who only offered half off 6 month or yearly, which I still felt was high, so I cancelled the service.

In the 3 weeks since then I've gotten 3 or 4 emails at decreasing rates, then today got a call from XM offering the 5 mos. @ $25 again, so I said yes and had service restored.

Honestly, I like the service VERY much, but have to balance that with being cheap!

I called when i made this first post and got the $77 a year. With txes and fees it came to $93 which was good but not the best.
I called yesterday and asked if I could get the $20 for 5 month and of course they gave it to me.
I gave the excuse that I am on SSDI and can't afford the higher price and since I don't drive more than 10-15 min each time I don't listen much.
After making the sale and giving my charge card to pay they offered me a sterio receiver which sells for $69.99 for only $19.99 and the 2nd service for $107 a year. I am going to ask my son if he might be interested in this since he doesn't have sirius in his car.
Does anyone know if these portable radios work good in cars?
I also thought it was funny that I called to cut the fees and gave the excuse that I couldn't afford it and they made an offer to me that would cost me more than the $77 fee I just turned down.
