sinus --help--PLEASE

I'm glad you're feeling better! Like a previous poster, I've had many sinus infections, many brought on by my allergies. Since I started taking Claritin and Flonase, I've only had 2-3 sinus infections in the past 5 years. Before, I had 3+ yearly. Have you tried a vaporizer with Kaz inhalant? It's a menthol type of thing, like the shower soothers. When I have a cold or sinus problems, I run my vaporizer with inhalant while I sleep and always feel better in the morning.

Op here--

I can't believe it been a year since I started this thread.

and here I am a year later almost to the date with my second Sinus infection.
It started on Monday and today I started antibiotics--
I'm rereading all the posts and really appreciate all the great ideas.

I just hope that this one doesn't last 6 weeks like my last.

I strongly encourage the neti pot. Love it and it works great. However, when your sinus goes down, ask for another xray from your dentist. My dentist told me the same thing, sinus infection....but besides that, I had a cyst above a root canal that really made the pain unbearable. I only had pain when my sinuses where inflammed, but I always had the cyst there. I finally had it removed and now my sinus pain is tolerable, but not unbearable.

As simple as it may seem make sure that you are getting plenty of fluids. Even when I am healthy, if I don't get enough water I get headaches and feel crappy. All the meds can really dry you out. Hope you have a quick recovery!

I can't sleep because I have the worst sinus pain right now.

Advil cold and sinus did nothing to help with pain.

On Oprah her Dr. Oz was on and recommended the Neti pot for sinus pain. I just started to use it. I find it uncomfortable to do it. But maybe if I started to use it earlier in the week when I first felt the sinus pain, it wouldn't be so painful right now.

:sad2:

I'm also still up and can't sleep cause of the pain.
I haven't tried a decongestant yet-- cause last year I ended up with such adverse reactions ( racing heart--insomnia etc).

so i'm alternating advil and tylenol.
mucinex and lots of hot showers and hot washclothes on face.

:wizard: hope you get some rest soon!!!!!!!!!
and relief.

I did not read through the whole thread but wanted to mention nasal douching. It really is helpful for me. Been to the dentist more than once only to find out it was the start of a siuns infection.

Look up nasal douching - most people do it with a net cup but that is not necessary. I have even done it with a Poland Spring sports bottle (after going to a very smoky concert!)

Short term I too use Flonase when I have an infection ( Ihate to continually use it)

Keep salining too!

I also use the nasal irrigating for when I flare ups. I cannot seem to find the neti pot anywhere though. I do have frequent flareups with my sinuses and its a awful feeling! glad to hear you are doing better

DH used to the get the WORST sinus infections. He started using the following EVERYDAY, and while he still has some doscomfort now and then, he hasn't had a full-blown sinus infection in some time. I picked up the starter kit and packets at Walgreens.

You can find the neti pot on Amazon. That is where I got mine.

OMG, I didn't read this whole thread but I agree Nasal flushing will work wonders!! Try it.

"But I cannot stress ENOUGH how much you need to irrigate your nose. Gross, huh? But it is one of the big big big things that will help alleviate the pain and get it out of there. It's worrisome that you don't have any discharge yet. In order for it to heal, it needs to come out. " this is soo true.

For someone who hasn't ever done this before, I suggest "Simply Saline." It's at nearly every drug store. All it is is just a mixture of water and salt and baking sode (of course you can make your own). I find that it's easier on the nose because it comes out in a fine mist instead of flushing gallons of water in there. "

This is sooo true... I get chronic, chronic sinus problems. I have been instructed by my ENT specialist to use simply saline, two sprays each nostril once a day to keep it away, followed by two sprays in each nostril of nasonex which is a nasal spray. The saline is to moisturize and flush out the impurities in your nose before you use the nasonex. Now if I feel pressure in my face or pain by my ears, which is a sign it is getting worse, I up that to twice a day, and that pretty much works for me.

I work at an Urgent care and was so sick at work one day was sure i had the flu, headache, sore throat, ears hurt, body aches, fever, etc etc, and the dr told me i had a sinus infection. thought he was crazy but he was right lol

since i have been doing my nightly maintenance i keep the pressure down to a dull minimum daily. I have some kind of pain, pressure daily. If it gets too bad i just get an antibiotic.

You must use the saline, it has been a lifesaver for me, I have sinus problems year round. the nasonex is another one.

Hope you feel better soon.

mouse 1 how are you feeling????
I'm feeling so so -- but on the upside I've slept thru the last 2 nights:banana:

I'm feeling a little better. I bought the simply saline as the previous poster suggested. I think this is really helping me. I'm using it everyday and I think this is helping me with the severe facial pain I get when my sinus doesn't drain.

When the pain is really bad it doesn't let me sleep. Laying down makes it worse. But I've been able to sleep the last couple of nights.

Please buy the simply saline. I found it in Walmart. I would like to thank the person who suggested it.

I have sinus pressure and stuffy ears. I usually take sudafed, and a pain reliever. But sometimes if I wait too long, I will end up with that nasty infection. I didn't realize that so many others suffered as well. :sad1:

Mucinex and Salt Aire. It will take a few doses of the Mucinex for it to start working, at least it does for me. Salt Aire is a "nasal wash", similar to the Netty Pots. You lean over, squeeze the salt water solution up one nostril then the other. Will provide a bit of relief and in the future will help prevent the sinus infections. And lots of rest and water!! And a humidifier!

I hope that my Sinis suggestion is a New Idea in this old thread.
I used to get really bad Sinis infections 2 times a year-Spring and
Fall and have tried everything that was suggested in this thread
and was so sick of having to take 2 rounds of Antibiotics 2 times a year
which lead to other problems.

I have NOT had a Sinis infection in over 2 years because I have
been flushing my Sinis out with ULTRA COLLOIDAL SILVER
This is the only thing that truely kills the bactiria before it becomes an
infection. :cool1:

I would recommend :cheer2: Ultra Colloidial Silver :cheer2: to anyone.
I even use it for my DS whenever he is feeling like he is getting a Sinis infection.
I only have to use it in my nose for between 2-4 days and everything goes away and no antibiotics.

Ultra Collodial Silver can be purchased at the Health Food store that
carries Herbs for treating health problems.
Ultra Collodial Silver is a Clear Liquid and if you purchase the plain Collodial
Silver it will be a Brown color which is a very poor quality of this product.

we'll here it is 1am and I'm up with Sinus pain and pressure--
I started this thread 3 years ago--

I used my nifty Grossan Hydro-Pulse Irrigator and took 2 adviel 5 a hours ago--
feel asleep for about 4 hours and wook up to horrible upper tooth pain--which is how my sinus pain presents

just took a hot shower and just used my simply saline--

any other " natural" ideas--
I ended up with some nasty reactions to levaquin and zithromax in jan -- and hate the idea of trying another antibiotic

I guess I'll be going to a ent or allergist soon-- all my sinus problems seem to start about now and peak horribly in August--
