if my DW and DD and i all three get in the single rider line, can we do either of these?

1.) wait off to the side until there is a car with two seats next to one another? (i know, unlikely)
2.) be guaranteed (by waiting if necessary) to have my DD in the same car as one of us? (behind her or in front of her)

I don't think you can.

We rode it single rider (3 of us) and we were put into cars when there was one seat left. They just called people out of the line on person at a time.

It was me and an entire family. :rotfl:

I don't think they accommodate that. However, at DLCA, they do allow you to wait for front row seating on Indy Jones, Space Mtn and California Screamin

Single rider means single rider. Sorry. If you want to be assured you are together you will need to go with either the standby or FP+ lines.

Generally (not 100% though), if you hit Test Track at rope drop and go with the single rider line you will get to sit with your family. We did single rider last March (before all the FP+ hoopla, so it may have changed the crowd flow) and we got 2 of us in one car and 3 in another (plus the other seats were filled with people from the standby line).

My mom and I may do single rider line at park opening next week. I hope it works

If you're going at park opening, I would just wait in the regular line. There's a slim chance you'd be together in single rider, but guaranteed if you just wait in the regular line.

In fact, they generally make announcements that parties will be split. The whole point of the single rider line is to fill in the extra seats. It actually bothers me when families get into a single rider line, making it longer for those who are actually by themselves.

I guess I don't understand why you are bothered if they don't allow for a twosome to wait off to the side. How does it make it longer if it's not allowed?:confused3

Do you mean if the family causes a fuss in the single rider line and wants to sit together?

Otherwise everyone gets to choose the single rider line if they understand the rules. Be it a person who came by themself or a family of 12!

DD(11) and I do single rider often, and it usually works out really well. However, we would not do that if she couldn't wait by herself for a few minutes at the end of the ride. She always goes first, and when she gets out at the end, she goes just past the unloading area and waits off to the side until I am off the ride. With three of you, you can just make a kiddo-sandwich - that way, she never has to wait alone, and the first parent always gets off ahead of her at the end.

We almost always end up just a car or two apart. Sometimes, we end up in the same car, and we even sometimes end up seated together. However, we have been in a situation where my ride vehicle broke down - and then they sent us back through the ride. She had to wait for a good 10-15 minutes that time, and my cell phone didn't get reception on that ride to let her know what was going on. Come to think of it, that was at Universal, but the same thing could happen anywhere with a single rider line.

What a fantastic suggestion! I think my DD7 will be too young to go this route on this trip, but I will remember it in the future - thanks for the help!

no to both. But we have used it a lot and DD and I are sometimes in the same car, sometimes sitting next to each other (when there is a family of 4 it works out this way).

but then the car takes off and it really doesn't matter much who you are sitting next to.

I get into the single rider line with my aunt all the time. We know we're going to be separated so I don't quite understand how we're making the wait longer for those waiting in line alone.

You can do neither of these things.

The nature of a single riders line is that you are being used to fill in odd empty seats. You must take the seat you are assigned to. You can't pick which seats, or wait for seats that meet your needs. Parents need to understand that there is no exception for your children. If it is a necessary thing for you to ride together or in a certain sequence, you're going to have to use the regular line or fastpasses. about the only thing you can do is ask someone else who was assigned the seat you want if they would mind trading, but this will likely work only on other single riders and you can't count on it being something that will work out for you. You or your daughter could well end up being the only single rider in a car.

If the child is under 7 you cannot use the single riders line anyway.

Many parents who use the single riders line arrange a meeting spot (for example the area where the ride photos are viewed) where the family will regroup after the ride.

OP: I would suggest that if you decide to do SR, that everyone just plan to wait at the exit near where they show the pictures of the riders for the others.

Here are a couple of suggestions that might work to at least make sure one of you is waiting for your daughter at the end if you get separate cars.

1. Either you or your wife get in the SR line by themself and then the one with your daugher get in line about 5-6 people back. That way the person in line ahead of the others should be done and waiting for your daughter. In fact your daughter and whichever one of you is with her would see the first person getting on so would know they would be waiting.

2. Put your daughter as the 3rd person in line of your group. Then it is more likely that one or both of you will be waiting for her at the end. This might not happen if the CM places the first 2 people in the second car and then the 3rd person, your daughter, in the first car of that set.

I was slow typing this and got interrupted so it is likely that these suggestions or similar have been given, but that I would still post.

You might get lucky if I have a FP at the same time as you. For my family of 4, we tell them we want 3 in the front and one in the back. That way my 5 and 7 year olds can both sit up front with my wife. I don't mind sitting alone behind them. They stick 2 single riders in the back seat next to me.

I certainly wouldn't count on that happening to you, though.

My wife and I always do the SR at Test Track. Only once did we ride in the same car together. All other times we were in different vehicles.
Answers to questions: 1. no, 2. no.

We did single rider last trip with a 7 & 11year old. Either DH or I went first then we sent both kids with an adult going last. It worked well because our kids were not afraid to ride alone. YMMV based on your child. None of us rode together the first time, the second the boys were together.
