Single rider is glorious

I do think it's an abuse of the system, and if wait times continue to rise, it will eventually result in a change - a la BOG cupcakes. Abused loopholes eventually get fixed.

Except that this is not a "loophole". Disney wants guests to use the single rider line to get every run of every ride as close to 100% capacity as possible. They want folks in the single rider line. They don't care who those people are, as long as they are willing to ride alone. I have never once used the single rider line, because I don't like to ride alone. That's why there is a standby line---so guests like me can opt to wait as long as necessary to ride with their party. If anything, Disney probably likes it best when the Single Rider Line is just marginally shorter than the Standby Line, because then they are still technically offering the chance of a shorter line, while also keeping the standby line as short as it can be at any given moment.

I'm so glad single rider is back! Taking a family trip in October and we have two little ones who will not be able to ride the bigger rides. With single rider, us older "kids" can ride the bigger rides while my Mom, who is not a thrill seeker, hangs with the kiddos for a bit. Without single rider, we would not be able to ride them, I'm not asking my Mom to watch kids for 2 hours while we stand in line.

Ironic the use of the word “greedy” from someone who apparently though the single rider line was meant to be an unlimited fastpass just for solo travelers like them.

Sorry, Toots. My parties have always been 4 to 10 over the past 30+ years. Never once traveled alone (and never used the single rider line). So you thinking I had a bone in this fight is, well, cute.

My kids are to young so have never used single rider line but what gives you impression single rider line is designed not intended for groups to split up? Someone posted exact text from Disney above that indicated directly it’s an option for groups to split up and ride. There is nothing wrong about groups riding in single rider line if they split up. It’s literally the intent of the line.

The single rider line is for people that are willing to fill in otherwise empty seats. Nowhere does it state that a group of people cannot go in the single rider line. It does state multiple times in line that as a single rider, your "group" will be split up.
The only time that I would see a group using the single line as abuse is when they are trying to sit together and the CMs are telling them they must be separated (which I have seen happen).

Oh, and I think anyone can use any line they want! And if you don't want to be "split up" from your traveling partner, feel free to join the line then use the chicken exit!

Or another way to look at it…….Groups who enter single rider lines become actual single riders as soon as they enter that queue.

I really think anyone who is annoyed by this, should probably just use the regular queue.

Groups in ANY line push back wait times for ANY rider. Single or not. Nobody is immune or entitled to not having people enter a line before them, unless maybe those that are paying for a VIP tour. I am a single rider the second I enter the single rider line because I will be riding by myself.

I remember back a few years ago when DFB clickbaited Single Rider as a hack and turned the subject into a loud debate.

Maybe they could rename it Individual Rider Line so there’s less confusion.

People used to make reservations for their whole party at BoG specifically so they could get in MK before ropedrop likely to get a front spot on 7DMT. But they’d just order a ‘cupcake’ or something small at BoG so they wouldn’t be charged the cancellation fees.

Even during the day this tactic was used when people only wanted to go check out the atmosphere and cool in the AC, their party of 8 would order 2 small items and 8 waters lol. Nothing specifically rule breaking about what they did, just became common and problematic enough for BoG to change course, first by making breakfast $30 to enter (kids 9 and under less $).

As a single rider I actually get really annoyed when there are large parties using it as a way to have a short wait. I have only ever actually used the lines when I go on solo trips, not when I'm with my family or on trips with the kids alone, that's not what it's for. Also, there are rules about how young a kid can be to ride without a parent, so I surely hope your kid met those guidelines. Single rider IS awesome, but really, for single riders.

It’s actually to fill the car up, not for lonely singles who do Disney alone as your fantasy above seems to imply.

I go to Disney with my kids. We go as a family. We try to ride as a family. We don't always go on the same rides together (one kid doesn't do coasters) but I try to go on the same ride separately with each of my kids.
So we don't use single rider. Not yet, anyway.

There were car building screens in single rider line, but you would have to be willing to stop and let others pass you by. We didn’t stop since we just built cars earlier in the day when we rode as a family. But you can build cars in single ridwr

For those of you that don’t see the difference between single rider and group single rider, it is pretty simple…
when A group of people enter the line designed for a true single it pushes the wait of those singles back.

not saying I have not done it but that also doesn’t mean it is “right” and the true singles are getting a longer wait time.

But, it is extremely unlikely that the "true single" would have a longer line than regular standby. That is what matters. "True singles" aren't deserving of a shorter line than everyone else. It self-regulates, if the single-rider line gets long people skip it or go into the regular line.

I have no issues with families using SR, but I have found more and more families giving the CM a hard time because they want to ride with their child or as a whole family. Personally, our family would much rather ride as a family, just a lot more fun.

People may choose to ride singly for any number of reasons -- it's not just for people traveling alone:

- An individual who is traveling alone.
- A dad who's grabbing a ride while mom's in the baby care center nursing.
- An roller-coaster enthusiast who's traveling with a more sedate group.
- An individual whose group has gone back to the room for a mid-day rest.
- A teen who doesn't want to stick with the family.

- And, yes, a group who chooses to split up to access the ride faster.

On our trip, I just wanted to see the inside of the castle but had no interesting in paying for an expensive dinner there that my kids wouldn't eat. This was when only dinner was prix fixe. Couldn't get a lunch reservation but did manage a 2:00 reservation that we ended up using to have an afternoon snack - one of everything on the menu. I'm very bummed we won't be able to do that this next trip since their dessert was excellent!
