Single rider is glorious

Found this on the news section of this website:

”As of now, guests' reports are that Smugglers Run and Rock 'n' Roller Coaster at Hollywood Studios and Test Track at EPCOT are using their single rider lines again with more on the way. The availability of single rider depends on the posted wait time. For example, when regular standby was 30 minutes or less at Smuggler's Run yesterday, the single rider line was closed.”

As a single rider I actually get really annoyed when there are large parties using it as a way to have a short wait. I have only ever actually used the lines when I go on solo trips, not when I'm with my family or on trips with the kids alone, that's not what it's for. Also, there are rules about how young a kid can be to ride without a parent, so I surely hope your kid met those guidelines. Single rider IS awesome, but really, for single riders.

Yes. My kids are old enough to ride alone. Which is why we never used it before. I wrote this post as a helpful tip, As I do in so many other threads and I am really surprised by any negative response.

The single rider line is for.......SINGLE riders. Parties of one. It's not for greedy families to split up and abuse just so they can get through the line faster.

We use single rider line all the time. It can be a great tool to ride quicker... but not always. That's the risk you take. We had a trip where we waited in the single rider line just as long as the regular line for RnR. The cast members made us aware of that before we chose to enter the line.
Anyone, any party size is allowed to enter single rider. They are just giving up the right to ride with their group. OP did NOTHING wrong, they were NOT selfish. Totally normal and smart thing to do.

My recent experience with single rider lines at Universal last week has me soured on families jumping into the single rider line.

My husband and I went to Universal without our three year old. He rides big coasters. I do not. Which means that for a period of time, we have to split up and both be alone if he wants to ride the big coasters. So many families were getting into the single rider lines that the waits were just as long as standby - 60-180 minutes. How wonderful that so many families got the pleasure of one another's company during the wait in the single rider line, while my husband and I are on our own for extended periods of time.

It's not technically wrong to get into the single rider line as a group, but it's a BOG cupcake, if you know what I mean.

I'm sorry but you are not correct. Single right is for ANY single rider. It doesn't matter if they are someone who is traveling to the parks solo or a part of a family that doesn't mind getting split up so they can wait less time to ride. It certainly doesn't make those families greedy or abusive of the system.

It sounds like you feel resentful being separated from your husband for so long. You can always walk the queue with him, then not ride. Lots of chicken exits right up to the end. I oughta know. Lol.

To me it is kind of like people using the refresh hack for Fast Passes. It IS legal but it goes against the intent of the system. It is like you are at a store and they are giving away an item and say "take as many as you want". There are people stuffing their pockets full who say, they said take as many as you want. Soon it comes to an end.

You thought the intent of the system is to check every hour? Every 15 minutes? Where was there any implied 'acceptable' frequency of checking?

Not resentful, mostly annoyed. I do think it's an abuse of the system, and if wait times continue to rise, it will eventually result in a change - a la BOG cupcakes. Abused loopholes eventually get fixed.

Even though we have never done it as my daughter is only 11, I can assure you in the near future we will be using the single rider line together. It isn't a 'bonus' to reward people with nobody else to ride, it is to fill all the seats.

Correct, it is to fill seats, but if you have read on here much at all you can tell that people see it as a bonus (e.g. OP).

Ironic the use of the word “greedy” from someone who apparently though the single rider line was meant to be an unlimited fastpass just for solo travelers like them.

Just chiming in to further back up OP. Also, it all equalizes. If everyone rode single rider, standby would be shorter. There is definitely some strategy needed. For example, RnRC can sometimes have a longer single rider line than standby because if you are old enough to ride it, you are probably old enough to ride solo.

I don’t see it as an abuse of the system. As others have said, it’s just designed to fill empty seats. The lines fluctuate. It’s been like that for as long as I can remember. Everyone wants to get on the quickest way possible. Sometimes it’s the single rider line. Sometimes it’s the regular queue. It’s always been a crapshoot. Part of the fun. Sometimes you win. Sometimes you lose.

Single Rider is great on Test Track with their odd number of seats. With EE and RnRC you are going wait longer for odd groups to come and need that seat filler. MFSR you are basically stuck being the Engineer. If you are at Universal at want shorter wait time there is the express pass option.

It doesn't really matter what others think. It only matters what Disney thinks. The cupcakes weren't technically wrong, but were an abuse. People defended every side. Ultimately Disney decided to change it.

People were abusing the disabilities passes. People defended it every which way, but Disney eventually changed it.

Fastpasses are for getting a jump on the queue. Single rider lines are for single riders. The system can only take so much abuse before it causes a problem big enough that Disney cannot ignore.

It is not the frequency, it is the fact that some people were getting 8-10 Fastpasses per day.
Ok but the frequency determines how many desirable FP they get. So you imply 8 is too many. Obviously Disney doesn’t believe 4 is too many or they wouldn’t have added the ability. I don’t see where any of us decide 5 is ok but 6 is too many. I see no issue with people optimizing use of the app. They give up some free time in searching on the app.

Except it’s no abuse because Disney officially says it is intended for groups. “Single riders” are people who are willing to RIDE alone to fill in empty single seats. not people who VISIT the parks alone and wait in line alone. It is expressly permitted because there are not enough solo guests to fill solo seats on every ride. What Disney cares about is ride efficiency—filling every seat—they don’t care about your relationship status for goodness sake!

That’s like saying it is abusing the system to get free ice water at CS restaurants because then nobody would buy bottled water. Disney allows and WANTS you to take the free water because they don’t want people overheating at their parks.

I guess I just don’t equate all of the other abuse you’re talking about with the single rider line. The single rider line is designed to fill empty seats. It self-regulates itself.

I think it‘s advertised as a potentially faster option, but it wasn’t designed so people travelling alone could ride faster then a couple or family.
