I was wondering if your kids are not old enough to stay home alone, who stays with them while you work? Anyone know where i can get information on 24 hr daycares or sitters?

I had a friend that used to work nights. She hired a college student, who would sleep over when she was working.

It's a difficult search. I've had some issues in my marriage that caused me to start getting prepared, and the best I could find was private people via craigslist (I live in a medium sized town). I could possibly have my SIL or MIL watch him (I work 12 hour nights, 3 nights a week), but that gets complicated with the whole marriage issue.

Right now, I kinda figure I'm stuck.

I work 2-12 hour night shifts/week and I am a divorced mom of 2. The two nights I work are the two nights they spend with their dad. It works out but I never have a night off just to myself to go to dinner with friends or anything. I am fortunate enough that my mom lives close-by so in a pinch she could watch them. I don't think I'd feel comfortable leaving my kids overnight with a stranger I met on Craig's list, but that's just me. Good luck.

depending on where you live, check with your town/city or county to see if they keep a list of licensed centers. In SC they have a county list that is kept by a branch of DSS. I'm sorry I can't remember the name of the group, it's been years since I've needed a daycare.

My dad died when I was 10. My mom worked graveyard shift. She advertised free room and board in exchange for being with me overnight. It wasn't easy, but over the years until I was old enough to stay home alone she found 4 single, older ladies looking for a place to live and will be be there at night.

I am a SAHM who homeschools and let me tell you we are always looking for ways to make money. I am also going to be working nights when I am a nurse so I feel for you. Look up your local homeschool COOP. Talk to the leader and tell her your idea. Maybe your kids could do to someone's house to eat dinner, sleep there - be a part of their family. Sounds like a wonderful experience for your family and theirs.

Good luck!

When I was a single Mom, I had a neighbor that was a firefighter. I would go over to his house with my daughter and spend the night with his kids so they weren't alone. It helped him out and gave me a few extra dollars. Keep looking around; maybe a college student that could stay at your home and study in the evenings.
