I am thinking about taking my DD (4) on a cruise. I am worried that it will be hard since it will just be the 2 of us. Any experiences from single parents?

Hi Chloesmom.

Any experiences from single parents?

My son just turned 9 when we took our first cruise August '02. He will be 10 when we go on our next cruise this coming August. You will both have the time of your life! My son didn't care to spend much time in the Oceaneers Lab which was fine with me. We shared many experiences onboard the Magic and had a truly fantastic FAMILY vacation.

My son was 4 the first time I took him to WDW. It has been such fun that we now go once a year to WDW and/or a DCL cruise. No spouse/significant other is necessary to have a good time. And, as a matter of fact, often times I have noticed one or both parents engaging in teeth-grit warnings to their child(ren). Seems to be a common denominator in many 2-parent families - moreso than in a single-parent household (at least in those situations where I've borne witness). Anyway, with just the two of you, I am quite sure smiles will prevail...

i am a single mom. I took my 4 year old daughter last year on a 2 day cruise, with another cruise line. I thought I would feel awkward and it would be difficult, but we had SO MUCH FUN!! We blew bubbles as the ship left the port, we had dinner and she went to the kid's camp and she loved it, I did things on my own. The first night was a little rough because she thought we could just turn the ship around and go home-she missed her dog, Nikita. But she got over that. We are going to Disney World in November then next year she and I are going on the Disney Wonder. You both will have a wonderful time!!!! I had the stateroom decorated for upon arrival. We would sit out on the balcony and have breakfast. It was great.

Buckaroo's Dad-Your son is lucky to have a Dad like you!! My husband, when we were together, the only family trip we went on was cross country to Missouri for a death in his family when I was 5 months pregnant. I don't think he would ever take our daughter on a cruise or anything vacation related. I applaud you. :)

I'm a single mom also and started taking WDW trips with my 3 kids in '99. We are hooked and are excited about our first cruise.

My kids work really hard all year long with school and sports. This is a great time just to have fun together with no outside pressures, me included. I only wish I started sooner.

My oldest will be taking her last family vacation with us for a while as she will be off to college in a year, so this cruise will be special.

Go for it and have a great time, who knows you may start a yearly tradition ;)

Hi,

I am a single mom also. I have taken my DD on the Disney cruise 4 times now, and have the 5th booked. I thought it would be ackward also, but I was so wrong. I even did the Palo brunch by myself, a table for 1! I plan to do that again next year also. Both of you will enjoy your "own" time, as well as time together.

Thanks you everyone for your great replies! I am a new single mom so this solo thing is new to me. We always went to WDW as a family of 3 so I was worried about just the 2 of us. I will definately be booking my cruise now. All I have to decide on is how long!

Definitely do it! I have taken my DS 9 to WDW 2 times and DCL 1 time (going again in December) and am now addicted! Trust me, being a single parent in soooo much easier at Disney than it is at home!
