We go to Disneyland in 9 days! :thumbsup2:banana:

And I got diagnosed with the swine flu yesterday :mad:aaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. I am not a happy camper. I just hope my daughter doesnt get it. Any suggestions on how to get over this crap FAST and keep dd from getting it? UGH

Oh no! I leave in 4 days, and this is my big fear right now. I am so sorry.

From what I understand (someone correct me if I'm wrong), you should be pretty well okay in about 7 days, so you might be good to go. However, your daughter, oh no! If I were you, I'd wear a mask to try to prevent breathing on her. Try not to go near her too much if you can and both of you CONSTANTLY wash hands! I hope it all turns out well. Good luck!

Just rest and drink plenty of fluids and stay away from your dd as much as possible. That's sucks just before a trip. I'm worried about my kids getting sick.

Actually hope your daughter does get it, gets OVER IT FAST then you will both be good to go! Better that than getting it once you get there! 9 days is plenty of time to get sick and get over it. I think my son had it last weekend. He (they) got something 103 fever cough. We leave a week from today.

good luck

I know a few people who had the swine flu. Just follow the doctor's orders, get lots of rest, drink your fluids and take the medication that is prescribed to you. You should be better within a week. But like a PP said, try to avoid close contact with your daughter as it could be a lot worse if she gets it. I hope you feel better soon!

Oh no, I agree with PP that it would be better to get it now and get some immunity than get it while you are at DL.
DD12 just became ill yesterday with a sore throat, cough and fever. I am calling her doc in the morning to see. A couple kids in her class were diagnosed with it. So I am thinking it is better if we all get it now cause we go to DL on 10/6 and I am the only adult, it would suck to get sick and stuck unable to drive 8 hours home. :scared1:
best wishes for a speedy easy recovery :)

I believe my family was exposed to this virus in July. There is a four day incubation period before you get sick. So, if your dd gets sick she will get sick before you leave. Better before than during.

Take care.

Wow, theyre actually telling you to get your daughter sick. Lol. Quik, go cough on her. Haha. I hope everything works out for you guys.

I leave in 39 days and I'm already downing vitamin C and wanting to wear a mask so I have no chances of getting sick just before my trip lol is that sad? I just want my trip perfect!!

LOL- I get what they mean though

Thanks everyone
Im actually starting to feel better- I just hope she eather gets it now or not at all lol

Sorry to hear you are ill. A word of hope. H1N1 has hit our schools pretty hard already. I know of numerous families that were super careful and only one family member became ill. Sending some pixie dust your way for a speedy recovery. :wizard:

They're actually only saying to wear the masks if you have it. Extended wearing of one creates a moist environment and will be more likely to "grab" the virus and expose you to it.

I'm glad to hear you're feeling better! You should be fine for the trip - how is your daughter doing?

Were they able to diagnose you on the spot? When it was going around last spring, seems like it took forever to get official confirmation because they had to send the samples to the CDC. By then, of course, you were over it. Would be nice to hear that they're able to do it in the doctor's office now. Also...how miserable were you? How does your experience compare to the regular flu?

My kids had this in August and they did fine, but it was scary to get that diagnosis!

We all stayed home for about five days to avoid exposing others which also allowed us to rest up. I had my kids drinking so much water and gatorade, I thought they'd float away! I also put paper towels in all the bathrooms and had Chlorox wipes next to every sink.

I am so sorry this happened so close to your trip. Just drink plenty of fluids, rest and if you can maybe get on Tamiflu? I had my kids on it and they never got that sick, dh and I took it as well and never got it at all.

Best of luck and get well soon!

The paper towels in the bathroom is an excellent suggestion! I would also like to add, to keep toothbrushes in the family away from each other - I would also say, when you are well, dispose of your old toothbrush and get a new one, OP. I hope you feel better soon, I hope your dd doesn't get it, and I do hope if you are still contagious that you may consider post poning your trip. Does anyone know if taking cold fx would help to prevent this flu? We were all hard hit with a flu in June, I dropped 10 pounds from it, (bonus side effect) and when my dd, 7 year old had the flu, she was throwing up every 15 min. round the clock. It was brutal. I don't know if it was the swine flu though as we didn't have the chest congestion or cough to go along with it, but we did have fever, chills and aches/pains.

Good luck OP! Get better soon! :)

A few updates and backround-

My lil bro got the swine flu and we had seen him the day before he was diagnosed but didnt really have physical contact with him. Since we didnt we didnt go to the doctor then. My parents went on tamiflu so they wouldnt get sick. My dad and I both got sick at the same time so we went to our doctor. When they test you they test a sample in the office- if it is positive to type A then you could have swine flu- but they send it to the state and it takes about 4 days to get the result. But they give you meds anyways. My dad tested negative.. meaning he just had the "normal" flu. I tested positive so we all assumed it was the swine flu. I went on meds and am now feeling alot better. Ill be fine for the trip.

anyways... my doc told me to call DD doc to put her on tamiflu so she wouldnt get it. her doc said no. soooooooooo today i get a call from dd dad (his weekend) and she woke up puking. So i took her to the er and they tested her ( negative) but she is coughing slightly, pukeing, and temp got up to 101, Er doc did put her on tamiflu though :) so now shes on that. I think she will be fine for the trip though.

My experience with it- although I really only had type A was that it sucked lol. The first two days I stayed in bed pretty much all day, body ached, TMI but was in the bathroom wayyyyyyy to much. By now I still have a cough, not as bad but its still there, and only slight body aches.

Lil bro took his meds and within 3 days he felt fine. he never really got a bad cough. but is completely fine now.

Thanks everyone for the tips :)
