With my NAS getting the best of me, I finally decided to pull the trigger on the Nikon 180/2.8 AF-D. I didn't want to spend too much on it, since it probably won't be a lens that gets a huge amount of use...so I ordered a copy from KEH that was rated as "bargain" to save a few bucks. I had purchased a "bargain" lens before and was happy with the condition, although it definitely qualified as slightly rough looking.
I got the lens in the mail today, which was a day earlier than the estimated arrival date. Point number 1!
I took the lens out of the packaging, completely expecting it to look a bit unimpressive cosmetically due to the rating system. Imagine how pleasantly surprised I was when I took the lens out of the bubble wrap and found it to be what I would consider "excellent" to "excellent +" condition. There is one scuff-mark/scrape on the barrel of the lens that is about 1/4 of an inch long and THAT'S IT! The glass looks perfect, the rest of the barrel looks pretty pristine. Points number 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 because the condition is about 10x better than what I was even hoping for.
I'm extremely happy I went for the cheapest of the three lenses they had listed and can't imagine the condition of the "like new" lens if this is what "bargain" got me.
Can't wait to get this sucker out and shooting. From just a test shot in my poorly lit office at shutter speeds slower than one should shoot with a 180mm lens, I'm sure the outside results are going to be stellar.
