Singing on the Pirates Ride??

My opinion is, if they can sing well, more power to them. If they sound like a asthmatic cat rolling around in a dryer, they ought to know to keep their volume at a minimum.

I won't shoosh anybody though.

It doesn't bother me when people are pointing things out in a "Oh, wow!" kind of way. It's natural to be surprised and awed by the "magic." Singing or reciting and anything that gives away a surprise (I've even had to correct my son for exclaiming "here comes a drop!" or whatever and explained to him that people might like to discover things for themselves. He's also a fan of telling me when something is going to happen in a movie he's seen and I haven't, so it's a theme we're working on :lmao: ) bothers me. That's just my two cents though, obviously.

I can see your point when it comes to other's spending their time explaining the ride to everyone, that is not something that I or anyone in my family would ever do. However by singing a few bars of a song while in the middle of going over two waterfalls....well I guess I just cannot see how that can ruin a whole ride for someone. :confused3 Pirates is a unique ride in that respect, you have very quiet parts at the beginning, then some very loud parts that lend itself to being vocal, then back again to being quiet, then back again to loud. As I said before I think most people try to behave while in the park, but then sometimes the fun just kinda grabs you. :goodvibes

Man oh man oh man! I haven't seen such a heated post over so much silliness in a long time. Yup, my family (several trained singers in the group) sing during the very first part of POTC. And, yes, I confess, we've sung a bit during Small World ( tend to get bored with that one and quit pretty soon). And, at WDW have even been known to sing out a bit during Carousel of Progress. Yes, the singing is short lived and not continued throughout the ride...we appreciate the magic of Disney too. However, we have NEVER flashed our camera, cell phone, or video camera anywhere on a dark ride. We have never talked on a cell phone, sworn, carried on an obvious argument, berated each other or our children or CM's, other patrons, etc during a ride/attraction. I have seen and heard near attrocities commited by parents, couples and even CM's on rides. BUT I have never had anyone even frown at us for singing. And...if I did, or anyone even looked like it was bothering them we would immediately stop. Lighten up folks...this is an amusement park...not the Met.

Just because no one has said anything, doesn't mean they haven't secretly wanted to toss you overboard. Justifying your behavior by setting examples of people who do bad things doesn't make what you are doing OK. Clearly, there are people here who are, at the least, annoyed by others singing so maybe you all need to reconsider your singing habits, regardless of the quality of singing.

I was on the bus one late night going back to BC from MK. It was a long ride and it was very late and a pair of teenage girls with absolutely beautiful voices were singing. After about 10 minutes a guy went over to them to ask them to stop. When the guy got back, a couple of people thanked him because they wanted it quiet as well.

There is a point and time for singing, at the theme parks in most situations is not one of them.

One of my favorite experiences is in the stretching room of HM. When you look around and see others mouthing the words with you. At that moment I realize I am not a freak. Or if I am, I am not the only freak. :)

Sing away!
(people that get angry to the point of fuming over another family enjoying themselves annoy me.)

We always sing a few rounds of "Yo ho...." between the drops. Good family fun. Hopefully it hasn't bothered anyone. Sometimes others sing along too. I would think you would have to be really sensitive to let a few lines of singing annoy you. Talking loudly and singing through the entire ride however, would probably be annoying. A little chit chat now and then doesn't bug me!

I have been known to sing along with a few "Yo Ho's" after the first drop! It's harmless fun, I don't live close, and visit once a year, but it's an exciting time to be back... It's my FIRST ride every trip...:worship: so I guess the JOY of being back just gets to me..... I'm not a screamer on rides, but a little whispering in the ear of whom ever your riding with, and a litttle YO HO, does not bother me...
The flash photography does, as does the constant chit chat, about everything in the world, other than the ride does....

The singing doesn't bother me nearly as much as chit-chat in a movie theatre. We were trying to watch a Disney movie when a mom kept talking about the movie to her 4-yr-old. DH and I both ssshhhed her but her snarky response was, "It's a child's movie." It wasn't the child making the noise!

I'm not a local either, but I hate being in a boat with people who constantly sing along. Hate it. I always try to be quiet and respectful of other families while I am on a ride and along with that, it means letting them enjoy the ride how they want to enjoy that. My 3 year old knows that we don't talk or get loud on rides (particularly Pirates or Small World) but she knows that if she has a question or wants to point something out, she can do so quietly. Maybe it's just my family, but we're there to enjoy the ride that Disney has set out for us... not to feel like we're at a karaoke bar. Singing in line? Fine. Singing once you're pretty much out of the ride area and waiting to get off the boats? Fine. But if you must sing during the ride - please don't be obnoxious and try to get my family to join in.

Yo ho, yo ho, a pirates life for....

Oops, sorry, didn't mean to disturb anyone with my singing! ;)

For those of you who want to sing at home, enjoy!

And just in case you don't know the lyrics...

Yo ho, yo ho, a pirate's life for me

We pillage, we plunder, we rifle and loot
Drink up me hearties, yo ho
We kidnap and ravage and don't give a hoot
Drink up me hearties, yo ho

Yo ho, yo ho, a pirate's life for me

We extort, we pilfer, we filch and sack
Drink up me hearties, yo ho
Maraud and embezzle and even high-jack
Drink up me hearties yo ho

Yo ho, yo ho, a pirate's life for me

We kindle and char, inflame and ignite
Drink up me hearties, yo ho
We burn up the city, we're really a fright
Drink up me hearties, yo ho

We're rascals, scoundrels, villains, and knaves
Drink up me hearties, yo ho
We're devils and black sheep, really bad eggs
Drink up me hearties, yo ho

Yo ho, yo ho, a pirate's life for me

We're beggars and blighters and ne'er do-well cads
Drink up me hearties, yo ho
Aye, but we're loved by our mommies and dads
Drink up me hearties, yo ho

Nope. Not interested in singing on the ride.

On one of our rides of POTC in Disneyland, we had a family behind us who I figure was local. They chatted and chatted and chatted through the ride. Drove me insane. I got to hear about the friend who's husband was having an affair, how the persons daughter just found out she was pregnant, the fight she had with her husband.

When they began to talk about their nieces hair color that went wrong (it turned orange) I turned around and said "OMG how horrible for her." and then asked them to please be quiet so we could enjoy the remainder of the ride.
They were so shocked that someone said something, they actually quit talking. Thank goodness.

When I ride an attraction, I want to be able to actually hear the attraction. Not the other guests singing, talking, or whatever. I did want to add the occasional Wow, look at that, cool is fine. LOL

This thread is interesting. Teacups, if I was on a boat with you, I'd sing right along with you. :confused3
I can remember one time riding Pirates, and the people behind us were clapping and singing and having a great time. They stopped after probably a minute. They got everyone else in our boat clapping and I thought it was a blast.
Then again, I also love being with people in the stretching room in Haunted Mansion who recite all the lines. To me, it's fun and makes the experience more memorable when you can share a small moment with a complete stranger.

We sing.....in the bayou at the beginning we sing, heck we sing if we eat at BB! lol We also sing a little during the town, mostly the part that's on fire. We don't sign loudly, we don't make a big deal out of it, we just sing...and we don't do it every time either. No one has asked us to stop or given us dirty looks about it so I honestly have no idea if anyone cares. I don't even know what I would do if someone did ask us to stop........

DD15 likes to recite the opening for HM, sometimes we ask her not to because we want to hear the narrator, but it rarely matters. People are having fun, that's what DL is supposed to be about.......

If it's really just for a short bit of the ride then it's less irritating than taking flash photos.

Would I sing along? Depends on the mood I'm in and how the rest of the boat reacts.

The way I see it, is we all work hard for our beloved Disney vacations and we all deserve to have fun. It should not effect your level of fun by simply enjoying the ride quietly, but it MAY ruin someone else's fun who does not want to hear you singing, and would rather take in the atmosphere Disney works so hard to create.

I'd push you out of the boat myself. And step on your hands when you try to climb back in. And I bet I'd get a round of applause for doing it.

I hate it when people do it in the 'ruin it for others' type of way. Honestly, there is a big difference when people are doing it to be annoying or when they're doing it to have fun.

If you're merely singing along in a pleasant and happy and not EXTREMELY LOUD manor, I'm not going to care (much :P ) But when people are SCREAMING along with it I absolutely hate it.

Along this line..those who SCREAM at the top of their lungs the second they step into the elevator in HM just to be funny. That is SO NOT COOL. I took my kiddos on there. They're tough kids but were nervous to go on this ride. They both started to bawl when someone did that (age 2 and 4). They had wanted to go, there was no forcing from us and were actually excited..but once that happened, they were terrified to go on it again. They enjoyed the actual ride itself.

IMO there is a huge difference between enjoying yourself and being a fool. Uttering profanity unnecessarily is foolish and entirely out of line in a family park. I swear. I have sworn around my children (but apologize to them when it's happened)..they aren't cussing noobs...but to hear other people use it as a verb/noun/adj AND exclamation point? Unnecessary. It's sorta like smoking near people who don't smoke and subjecting them to things they can't control. ;)

Soooo enjoy yerself but don't be a jerk about it is my rule LOL

We have been to DL 5 times. You know, we are not locals, so its always a big deal for us. Being a big deal, we sort of try to make the most of it.
One thing we always do is try to get people to sing (pirate song) with us on the PoTC ride. Funny, some years its a total hoot, with SO MANY joining in, and other years its like we are riding in boats with bones. I KNOW to some of the locals its like "OMG tourists!" :headache:

About singing. pirate: Would you?

Yea, sorry if others do not like it, but generaly there are at least 7 of us on the pirate ride singing away at the beginning. We move as a large group since so many of us go, and many times over chirstmas took up the whole boat :rotfl2: There were 19 of us.

I realize other's may get upset....but er, it's kinda a tradition for us. But we stop fairly quickly after the 1 st drop, honest!

We dont sing THE WHOLE ride. Just that first part.

The first part of the ride is the Bayou scene. The perfectly whispery quiet, relaxing, let me get into this ride and let the theme park stuff slip away.

If you're singing then, I would want to push you out of the boat, absolutely.

As a tourist, I'd be thinking "ooh, annoying people!"

As the ride gets louder, it becomes less inappropriate to be a bit less quiet.

Well I also have a tendancy to squeal and scream a bit as we go down the water falls, and point out things to other family members that I have not noticed before while on the ride too. Come to think of it I also scream quite a bit on space, splash, and big thunder, and laugh outloud while on buzz. :scared1:

Assuming you are screaming because you are truly frightened in that moment, it's a perfectly natural way of responding to the ride.

Singing is not.

Whoa, just a minute. Are you really assuming that I think anyone is less important? IF SOMEONE WERE TO.... nobody ever has, so dont go assuming anything about me.

People ARE, now, telling you how they feel. So...are you going to change the behavior, now that you know?

The singing doesn't bother me nearly as much as chit-chat in a movie theatre. We were trying to watch a Disney movie when a mom kept talking about the movie to her 4-yr-old. DH and I both ssshhhed her but her snarky response was, "It's a child's movie." It wasn't the child making the noise!

OK, well...it's a kid's movie, so some kids need to have things explained. Sounds like she was doing it rather loudly, but still, her 4 year old might not have understood what was happening. I understand what she's saying, even if I wasn't taking DS to movie theaters at 4 (that I recall), because I didn't want to deal with those problems. (with him)
