Shortly after I had dinner yesterday, I felt some discomfort in one of my teeth, and of course found a cracked tooth. Its a tooth that I had filled last year, and also ended up spending over $1200 on dental work to have all those old silver fillings replaced, and had a root canal, etc. I kept up on regular cleanings, until earlier this year when I moved. I haven't found a new dentist in my area yet...But I am very good at brushing & flossing several times a day. I didn't want to have to spend another $1200 in repairs.
So I wake up at 2:34 a.m. to find the side of my face swollen like I had been punched, and my jaw and the inside of my mouth was throbbing!
I was thinking I probably have an abscessed tooth or something, and of course there was nothing I could do right then, so I took some Advil and tried to get back to sleep. I had to go to work, so I went in and spent 2 hours trying to find a dentist who could see me today. The pain was really unbearable, so I caved and went to a local dental center, who shall remain nameless. After spending about 1.5 hours, having x-rays taken, and having the doctor tell me that there is nothing she can do for me today, but "lets get you booked for another appointment" ( and I will have to see the office manager first ) I was shocked at what happened next.
I was ushered in to see the "office manager", where he clicked away at pictures of teeth on his computer and then printed out a sheet of paper and said "ok, this is what we're looking at"...All I saw was the dollar figure on the bottom. $1575!!!
I then had to listen to his sales pitch, have him try to get me to sign up for "their financing", and then was told I would have to schedule visits twice a week until the end of January.
I just had all this dental work done last year, and he was telling me I would need to have everything re-done???
I stood up and said "you have got to be kidding me!" Walked out in tears, called my fiance, and begged him to call around and try to get me in to see someone close to home. It was towards the end of the day, so I was unable to get in to another dentist, but the one we found is a friend of fiance's employer. He called in a prescription for the pain + an antibiotic in case of infection, and told me to be there at 7:30 a.m. So, the pain killers are kicking in, but I'm still in alot of pain, and my cheek looks like I'm storing nuts for the winter.
Sorry for the rant. I guess I learned my lesson today. I was tempted to make the 3 hour trip to my old dentist. Hopefully tomorrow will be a better day!

I gave her an earful about what I thought of her practice and where she could stick those braces.
Hope you're feeling better!
