I think when you went on their BLOG (not an open discussion site but a blog) and then commented that you thought their view was wrong that is exactly what you did. I think in such an instance you really shouldn't be surprised if their retaliation got pretty nasty. It does sound like a place you do not belong (nor would I) so it is probably a good decision to unsubscribe.
Ok... so this is what the deal is.... And I won't say anymore... Promise

I am new to blogging. Very new... I am also a practicing catholic. I found a catholic blog. I joined the blog because I figured it would be fun to "hang out" with like minded people. Just like here on the Disboards. Well... I guessed wrong. They have set bloggers on this board and everyone else responds. The post was about Katy Perry and blah blah blah. And the jist was... Is it appropriate for Katy Perry to be featured on Sesame Street whose target audience is preschoolers? What are we saying to our kids? What's your opinion? Ok...
By the time I read the blog, people had already posted their opinions. Some I thought were extreme but one started bashing.... well, look at the Disney Princess and all that cleavage, etc. So by the time I came around to give my opinion, I said I had absolutely no problem with the princesses and didn't see it as an issue. I went on to say that to me they were just portrayed as beautiful women and I saw nothing wrong with that, etc.. It had never even crossed my mind to question their modesty. I then went on to say that thing about Katy Perry and I agreed I didn't think it was appropriate if they wrapped her up like a mummy. (Because the show was for preschoolers) I also said, Sesame Street had a long history of questionable guests and I thought they did it for the parents who were watching along with the kids because the kids wouldn't know them from a hole in the head.
You would have thought I was the devil himself. I suppose I took it personally as I like the princesses and really don't see anything wrong with them, or immodest or immoral. And then one started knocking public schools, and so on and so on... As a practicing catholic I had never heard such opinions from other catholics. Ever, anywhere, lol. I guess that's another reason I was thrown for a loop. They even went so far as to say what adults would want to look at them, etc.
So, the moral of the story is, for me.... Don't ever ever, ever talk about (I can hear my Mother now) Politics or Religion with strangers. Even if you think you share the same points of view.
Oh, and I like Katy Perry by the way, and have several of her songs loaded to the ipod, lol. I like her music, the sound. I personally don't subscribe to the message, but the sound is upbeat and her lyrics aren't going to persuade me to think different and lead me to the devil either, lol.
So that's that. I came here to the Disboards to rant to other like minded individuals who I thought could sympathize with my disgust over at the other place of apparantly not like minded individuals. Did you get that?
Anyway, my rant is over and I feel better now.
