...or(sp)Hanukkah? Or Kwanzaa? Or...?

With so many Christmas threads, I thought it'd be nice to hear from those celebrating slightly differently this holiday season.:)

I'm Jewish :) But most of hanukkah falls while I'm still away at school, so I end up just opening presents over Thanksgiving break. Can't light a menorah in the dorms either.

I am Jewish. Chanukah is very early this year.

Our family and the family of very dear friends of ours, who are Jewish, have celebrated what we call 'Hannamas' for years. We get together for dinner and gift exchange every year.

Chanukah, of course! latkes and turkey leftovers this year!

gotta find some blue and white candles and some chocolate coins!

We do both - I'm Lutheran, DH is Jewish. There are no kids in the picture yet, so were not dealing with THAT confusion yet. Its very nice when they holidays are separated by several weeks like they are this year. When they fall together, we decorate the tree in blue and clear lights and call it "the holiday bush!!" :D

We do both also since I'm Jewish and my husband is Catholic. It makes life a bit crazy at times especially when Hanukah and Christmas or Easter and Passover are near each other but since I don't live near any of my family, I know if I don't do the Jewish holidays for my kids (13 and 11), they'll never know their Jewish side (not that the holidays are the only part of being Jewish).

We are visiting my family for Thanksgiving so since Hanukah begins the next night, we will celebrate the first night of Hanukah with my family. Latkes and Kugel here we come!

As always, I will celebrate Hanukah with my best friend and her family, in turn she will celebrate Christmas with mine. Its a 25-year old tradition that we really enjoy. As others have said, its nice when there is a break between the two holidays like this year.

... a friend of mine would always roll her eyes about the fact that though her family was Jewish, every year they'd also have a tree decorated (this is out in LA)...but I really LOVE hearing about these other events...Hannamas and the holiday bush!:):):)

I'm so glad I asked.:)

JTB...I admit I was a little confused by your response...thought it was something cryptic, like the hippie thread...but I get it now (a little slow at this hour!:p)

Yes...I used to get all confused about the advent candles too when I was little. ;)

My hippie thread was cryptic? Hm. It wasn't meant to be. :) In a nutshell - I love hippies! :):):)
