What the latest? Any dates on when it will open? Any news on what the ride will look like??

The ride has yet to be confirmed.

So they closed BTTF without saying what was "officially" going in that location? Are they at least working on "whatever" is replacing BTTF? I'm just hoping something might be there by Sept...any chance of that?

The actual NEW ride redone and opened by Sept. of 2007,I would say the chances of that are slim and none!

I would say there is almost no chance of that happening. A wall was built around the entrance to BTTF which has a sign which says something about a new attraction in 2008.

Dang...THANKS ALL...guess I'll have to come back in 08'

Yep, they closed BTTF and came out with an announcement a few weeks ago saying they'd be spending 100 million or so next year. I think the marketing departments must go to the same school, where they tell them to keep everything secret. It started with Cedar Point keeping Top Thrill Dragster a secret, but that was so Six Flags wouldn't know about it. They found out anyways and built Kinga Ka taking the world height record. Since that time, parks keep ALL their rides top secret even if it's a family attraction. Problem is, they're doing such a good job that no one knows anything new is coming.

Now, they could be keeping it under wraps because the contracts might not be signed yet, that I can understand. But this top secret attitude of parks just boggles my mind.

There won't be anything new until next year.

"Simpsons" creator Matt Groening and exec producer James L. Brooks collaborated with U's ride design team on the concept, which will let parkgoers travel through a "Simpsons"-ized version of a theme park, as envisioned by Krusty the Clown.

So, it will be another simulator. Hopefully, it's a good one!!!

I'm like a Psychic or something....lol

Official Press release from Universal Orlando:
April 24, 2007

THE SIMPSONS COME TO UNIVERSAL THEME PARKS

New Mega-Attraction Opens In
Both Orlando and Hollywood In 2008

Orlando, FL and Universal City, CA (April 24, 2007) — “Woo Hoo!” Universal’s theme parks add animated fun and excitement to their roster as FOX’s blockbuster hit series, The Simpsons, becomes the inspiration for the world’s most highly anticipated new theme park ride.

Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa and Maggie Simpson – stars of TV’s longest running series – will ride along with guests in a new mega-attraction opening at Universal Orlando Resort and Universal Studios Hollywood in Spring 2008.

Guests will be rocketed along with the Simpson family on a hysterical, almost unimaginable adventure. They’ll experience a side of Springfield previously unexplored as they enjoy the new ride’s interpretation of thrill rides, dark rides and “live” shows that make up a new fantasy amusement park dreamed up by the show’s cantankerous Krusty the Clown.

Universal’s award-winning creative team is collaborating with The Simpsons Creator and Executive Producer Matt Groening and Executive Producer James L. Brooks to create and open the first-ever mega-attraction based on the blockbuster TV series. It will feature the show’s classic humor and many of its instantly recognizable characters - all voiced by the original actors.

"The ride is designed to duplicate the Simpsons home-viewing experience, only at high speed and with lots of screaming," stated Matt Groening.

“I am particularly thrilled since, like most people, I'm forever looking for a way to cut the line at Universal Theme Parks,” added James L. Brooks.

“Universal takes the most popular characters in blockbuster movies and hit TV shows and creates fun, exhilarating entertainment experiences,” said Tom Williams, Chairman and CEO of Universal Parks & Resorts. “With its unique sense of humor and enormous popularity, The Simpsons is a perfect complement to our brand of entertainment.”

“The Simpsons is nothing short of a cultural phenomenon and nearly 400 episodes in, the multiple Emmy-Award winning show continues to be as hilarious and inspired as ever," commented 20th Century Fox Television Presidents Dana Walden and Gary Newman. “Creating an attraction based on this landmark series is a fantastic opportunity for our viewers to experience The Simpsons in a whole new way, as well as potentially expose it to an even wider audience.”

About The Simpsons:

Currently the longest-running sitcom on television, The Simpsons will air their historic 400th episode in May 2007. The critically acclaimed series features Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa and Maggie Simpson, who take traditional family life and turn it upside down. Exploding into a cultural phenomenon in 1990, The Simpsons has remained one of the most visible and marketable properties domestically and internationally. The Simpsons is noted for famous celebrity guest voices (such as Elizabeth Taylor, Paul Newman, Kiefer Sutherland, Natalie Portman, Simon Cowell, Gore Vidal, U2, Mick Jagger and Aerosmith) and received a Star on The Hollywood Walk of Fame in January of 2000.

This multi-Emmy-Award-winning series is airing its 18th season and is in production on its 19th Season. The Simpsons is a Gracie Films Production in association with 20th Century Fox Television. James L. Brooks, Matt Groening, and Al Jean are the current Executive Producers. Film Roman is the animation studio.

thanks for the heads up.
i won't be at the parks in 2008 until october.
i'll catch it then.

will be there this october also but that won't help me for the new ride...:rolleyes1

We will plan to be there in June 2008.

we'll be there the last week of June.....probably a Tuesday or Wednesday until the last Sunday of the month (June 29)...then we'll be going on our Disney cruise......IF that has any influence...... :rolleyes1

One thing I've heard, which is very encouraging, is that the new ride will not simply be a "re-themeing" of the old BTTF ride.

In other words, they're not going to just stick new vehicles on the stilts and make a new movie for the big screen.

They're going to introduce new technology. Very cool.

We were there for the official announcement at Pow Wow in Ahaheim last week and through the course of questioning, discovered the same basic ride vehicles as BTTF will be used (obviously with a different facade!) but they will be programmed with 'new technology' for movements never before utilized. Sounds terrific!
