Simple, Stupid Ticket Question

Family and I are coming down to DW to run the Marathon in January. As time and finances are tight, we are limited to what we can do. So, if I buy us one-day tickets, and add the waterpark and more option, how long do we have to use the waterpark and more option? Also, do you need to go to the park first, then use the waterpark and more, or can you use it prior to entering a park? Kids want to go to DisneyQuest and Blizzard Beach.

And while I am thinking about it, are the pools at Blizzard Beach heated? Our other option was going to Discovery Cove and then to Aquatica, where I read that they keep them heated. Might make a difference coming in January.

Thanks in advance for any help :)

I don't think it matters in what order you use the days, but once you use the ticket for the first time, unless you have non-expiring tickets, they will all expire 14 days from first use.

1- Correct. It doesn't matter.

2- Ditto.

Have you been to Florida in January before? The weather can be a real ****shoot. Some days nice and warm, other days cold enough to make you glad you brought your winter jackets and gloves.

If money is tight, perhaps you want to hold off on the waterparks add on, and get your tickets once you're there and know what the weather will be like.

I'm from up North too, and even us crazy Canucks think twice about hitting the pools in January.

And historically, one of the waterparks will be closed for refurbishment.

Water parks are heated. We were there for the marathon one year and hit Blizzard Beach because it was 80 degrees outside. Of course the next year it was about 40 degrees.

We've been to the water parks in Dec and Jan many times. There has been at least one time where I sat on a lounge chair wrapped up in a blanket reading my husband and son played on the slides and water.

Also keep in mind that a 1 day ticket to the water park is cheaper than the WPFM option.

This is true but if the OP wanted to do both Disney Quest and Blizzard Beach it is cheaper to do the WPFM option. Per the ticket stickie, if I have read it correctly, a 1 day base ticket with the WPFM option gives 2 WPFM entries.

Also, to the OP, you should not need to go to a major park first, you could do a minor park first if you so choose.

You won't be able to do both with a one day park ticket and waterpark add on, the add on coincides with how many days park ticket you have.

When we were there during the Marathon in January, One water park was closed for rehab, and the other was closed for cold.

Except for a one day ticket with WPF&M which has two entries.

real gamble on the water parks or even swimming in general at disney in january. you can hit a freakishly warm day, but the reality is that itll be in the 60's. (since im running as well i dont want it much warmer than 70!) disney quest is a great choice as the weather has no impact. (more bang for your buck though with a water park as a fun option on a ticket). downtown disney just to walk around in can be fun (and free!). also consider saving money other ways (bring your food). the budget board has great ideas. consider 2 park days as well. good luck

Since weather in January can be risky - we were in January 2009 when it was 75 degrees, and in December 2010 when it was 35 - you can wait until you arrive to add the WP&M option. You can add it even if you've already used the 1 day park admission, as long as you do so within 14 days of first use.

Then you can see what the weather's like before you invest the money.

Also, to the OP, you know that the water park and more options are separate from the one day park pass, right? So you can do the park on one day, a waterpark the next day and DisneyQuest the third day (or whatever order you want to use them in).....as long as it is all used within 14 days of the first entry.

The Disney pools are heated, but they still could be slightly chilly....usually it is the air temp that is the problem though.

We went to Blizzard Beach last November right away in the morning at opening and the lazy river did NOT feel like it was heated. It was very chilly.

We have been down there many times in January, around the marathon and it has never been what I would consider great weather to spend money on a water park.

I would hold off on adding the options to your one day ticket.

Thanks for all the info. You all helped me clarify my questions! We traditionally come down during the winter for a visit and know that the weather can be iffy. I remember running in some sleet during the 2010 1/2 marathon and my daughter dressed as Tinkerbell for her birthday 4 years ago when it was 42 degrees at park opening. With that said, my kids are odd. Last winter they played in the northern CA pacific ocean when it was 50 degrees out for hours. Heck, if it hits 60 degrees we will consider it a heatwave!!!

If we can get some nice weather, this seems like the best way to get the most bang for our buck...

Another thing to keep in mind is that, unlike regular tickets, you can combine a used WP ticket with your existing base ticket to add WPF&M to them (see CF's sticky). In other words, you can go to a park one day, do DQ another day (with a single purchase ticket), and then if it's nice enough outside, use that DQ ticket to add WPF&M to your base tickets.

Normally you cannot combine tickets in this fashion (e.g. upgrade 2 1 day tickets to something higher), but the WPF&M addon is the exception to that rule.

We keep the water in all the slides and pools around 80F (27C) except for Shark Reef which does not have heaters. What you want is a day that will be bright and sunny and preferably not windy.

If you go on a day that is heavily overcast you will not be able to take advantage of any radiant heating (from the sun) or on a windy day (especially with a dry wind from the North) you will get hit by wind chill.

But a day with the highs in the mid-50s or above which is sunny and calm most people (at least from Northern climates) should be comfortable.

If you are only planning to have one water park or Disney Quest day you are much better off purchasing separate tickets.

If you add the Water Parks Fun and More option to your MYW ticket it will cost $58.58 (including tax) per person, adult or child. It will add one WPF&M entry per day on the base or hopper ticket (but two entries on a one day ticket).

If you purchase one day water park tickets they cost $52.19 adult and $43.67 child. (Disney Quest are $45.80/$39.41) If you are an Annual Passholder or DVC Member you can purchase one day water park tickets at an approximate 10% discount.

This upgrade may be done at any Park (including water parks or TTC) ticket booth or Guest Relations Office. If it is on your room key it can also be done at the Resort Lobby Concierge.

(Note each person must have their own ticket. Even though it adds multiple entries to your ticket, you can only use one ticket for one person.)

Also, if you are planning to do three or more water park visits within a year there is a definite price advantage to purchase Water Park Annual Passes.

We have two unusual policies at the water parks concerning ticketing. Both involve use of a one day water park ticket.

One is we will allow full value of the used WP ticket to upgrade to a WP AP as long as it is within 14 days of use.

The other, which is the only time combining tickets is allowed, is we will merge a used WP one day ticket with a MYW ticket to add the WPF&M option and only charge the difference in price.
