I got the 2005 edition of Simon's book yesterday in Waterstones which is great timing as I am off to Orlando for two weeks on Saturday.

One of the things we were considering doing was visiting Gatorland but I don't drive. Does anyone know if Gatorland is accessible by public transport or how much it would cost using Mears?

We (thats myself, my partner and her 9 year old daughter) are staying at La Quinta Inn, Lakeside. It would be useful to get the views on anyone who has stayed their recently.

I am afraid I can't help with either question - Just wanted to say Welcome!

I'm sure someone who can help will be along shortly.

Hi Greeko and welcome!

Lorraine has posted a Trip Report when she went to Gatorland without a car a few weeks ago. Hopefully she (or someone else) will spot this thread and post :)

Hi Greeko

If you have the time when you get there, go to the Tourist Information Centre on International drive. We went there last year and got all the bus information for various attractions from them. They also sale discount tickets.

Hi Greeko!!!

Gatorland IS BRILLIANT!!! We really enjoyed it, its so peaceful compared to the rest of Orlando!!!

We didnt drive, and paid for taxis, as the road that Gatorland is on is having major works done on it, and no buses stop nearby at the moment.

I cant remember what we paid (although we stayed on I-Drive so the cost wouldnt be the same anyway)!!!!!

One thing I would mention though, is if you do go, book a return taxi at the park closing. We had planned on catching the Lynx bus back to I-Drive, and werent aware that they werent stopping. So we had to wait about 45 mins for a taxi. We were all alone in the car park. Waiting and Waiting!!

But its definitely worth it. They call it a "half day" attraction, and we were there from about 1pm to 5pm. We saw all the shows and they were excellent - one thing though - if you are at all scared of bugs, or snakes, or anything else that moves - dont volunteer for anything in the shows!! Even when they say "put your hands up if you're scared of spiders"!! Dont own up!!!

Some poor woman admitted to being scared and was made to put her hand into an enclosed box to feel what was inside!!

I nearly died at the thought that they might have picked me!!

Made us all laugh though!! You must go. My daughter and hubby had their picture taken sitting on a back of a croc!!

Wicked!!!!

Thanks Lorraine

We will almost certainly give Gatorland a go. We went to Orlando a couple of years ago and did all the major theme parks then. We will probably do them all again but its nice to go somewhere a bit different as well
