Hi -

We are buying a new mattress and are unable to make a decision between a Sealy and Simmons firm pillowtop/ firm cushion.

Does anyone know about these two brands? Is one significantly better than the other in terms of long-term durability? We want something that with normal use) will last for about 8-10 years.

Also - in terms of stores to purchase from, has anyone has expereience with Rockaway Bedding, Sleepy's or Macy's?

Thanks!

We just purchased a Sealy Posturepedic. I think Sealy and Simmons are pretty much the same as far as quality. We tried both at the store we purchased from.

At the mattress store, the salesman asked how we slept. DH and I are stomach sleepers. He said that since we sleep on our stomach it might be better to avoid a pillowtop because since it is softer, your stomach sinks into the mattress causing your back to become sway (if that makes sense). We tried out several different mattresses. We ended up with a plush top, not a pillowtop. It is very comfortable. The thing is hugh though, you now have an option to purchase a shorter (in height) box spring. I'm sorry we didn't get that one, we went with the standard box spring. And I have to climb up into the bed.

You really just need to go and lay on a few beds, and choose the one that feels the most comfortable to you.

Thanks - that's helpful.

We did like one cushion top (the Simmons). I just heard their coils weren't "tempered" and that they won't last as well over time. Although the person who said that could have a vested interest in Sealy...I don't know.

I did a little research before we bought our mattress. And from what I read the "S" brands are all very similar, Sealy, Serta, Simmons in quality. At similar price points for those brands, it seemed you got about the same warranty. If you want a great mattress from what I read, you need to pay at least $5,000. The only thing is, I think we paid too much for our mattress, but DH didn't want to shop around, he just wanted to go out that night and buy a mattress, I however, am a shopper and like to look around. Oh well.

we bought a simmons and have had it for a little over a year. so far no problems and we LOVE it.

Thanks! I think we are set on the Simmons Beautyrest World Class Gold Doulton-somthing.

Appreciate the feedback!
