So, i'm on travelgear.com.au and i'm looking at sim cards.
I need one for the iphone and one for the ipad.
I want the phone mainly for the data, not too worried about calls, I can't do without my mobile internet :rolleyes1
Any rec's of which to get and where from? Which carrier?
This is all gibberish to me :upsidedow

Becpee, are you happy to have data on the iPad but you don't really need it on the iPhone?

In that case you probably could get away with buying their AT&T iPad sim and just the $1 per day or $2 per day T-Mobile sim. If you;re going to be away for more than 3 weeks and expect to make lots of calls you might be better off with their pre-paid monthly sim.

The sims that I've bought from Travelgear arrived very quickly and with lots o detailed info about using them.

You'll be able to get 2G/Edge speed data on your iPhone with the $2 per day sim, (no data at all on the $1 per day sim) but you'll get 3G data on your AT&T iPad sim.

If you want 3g data on your iPhone you'll have to buy an AT&T sim for it. I've bought one of those from Mobipassport - have just posted the details of our Sim purchases on Shuttergirls PTR thread here - http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=45969186&postcount=51

Thanks so much! I was trying to remember who had already about sims!

I'm afraid i'm a bit of a phone junkie :crazy2: but mostly use the internet and rarely call, i'll have a look at the mobipassport one as well, I may get fed up if it's too slow

Just had a look at mobipassport, and their AT&T sim is out of stock, so I guess i'm going with the other :)

Pity they're out of stock! FWIW I've heard that the 2G speeds on T-Mobile isn't much worse than AT&T's 3g.

But if you're still keen to get an AT& T sim you see them for sale on Ebay a bit. There's one from an Australian seller here :-http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/AT-T-ATT-Prepaid-SIM-card-Micro-Sim-IPad-2-IPhone-4S-4-/251073897368?pt=AU_MobilePhoneAccessories&hash=item3a752ba398#ht_1491wt_1163

The instructions for setting it up will be the same as the ones on the Mobipassport site.

Good Luck!

I got a T-Mobile $2 per day for the phone and i'll have a squiz on ebay now for an ipad one.

What did we do before mobile phone/internet? How did we survive? LOL

A little off topic - but I have downloaded an app from Australia Post - you can upload one of your photos and write on it as a post card and they print and deliver it!

I think its pretty cool - its nice to get stuff in your letterbox that is not a bill! We will be sending these to our "old school" parents

Anyway - this is what we did before mobiles and internet! (but we used pens and handwrote on them :crazy2:)

(but you do need internet to use it! )

Very cute idea!
My mum would love to get one of those! My sister would be jealous and cry though

FWIW I've heard that the 2G speeds on T-Mobile isn't much worse than AT&T's 3g.
FWIW, I used the T-Mobile sim in my WP7 last year, and never felt that the 2G speed was inadequate. I imagine it might be if you wanted to watch YouTube etc, but for normal use it's fine. I'll happily be ordering another one in a week or two for my October trip.

Thanks for the head-up! What a great idea :thumbsup2 I usually send postcards to my parents, my MIL and a couple of friends who really like to receive snail-mail postcars. I'll definitely get that one.

That's really good to know! We'll have T-Mobile data on one of our sims so it's good to know we'll have a backup if we're in an AT&T black spot. :goodvibes
