I know this is a silly question, but can you stay at a DVC resort without using points? If so, do you book through member services in the same way? Also, what would the cost be per night (can you book per night or per week) for say a two bed villa in Oct?

Yes, you can stay at a DVC resort for cash (subject to availability). Just book through CRO/WDWTC the same way you book any other WDW resort. (You have to be a member to call MS). You can book one night or a week or any number of nights you want - subject to availability.

Rack rates vary by resort and season. You can find out what they are by going to the Disneyworld official site - again, the same way you do for any other WDW resort.

you can also call member services to get the current cash ressie rate. I called yesterday to add a day to my trip and it would cost either 99 points or $308 for a weekend night in a 2br at Hilton Head.

I assumed the OP is not a DVC member - can't call MS for that info if you are not a member. Good catch - if she/he is a member, calling MS is a good place to start.

You may want to take a look at renting points.

Might save you some $$$ during the week.

Different prices will apply at different resorts. A 2-bedroom at BCV in October will cost you over $700 a night (a bit less if you're a member and if the resort has any leftover rooms in stock). These kinds of numbers make the annual dues look pretty cheap.
