What are the passports used for? We've never been to WDW, so Pressed Pennies, Passports, journals, all of this is new to us.

The passports are used in the World Showcase section of EPCOT. In each country, there is a Kidcot section set up where the child can get a stamp from that country and the person working there writes them a message.
It's a great keepsake.

The pressed pennies are the same pressed penny machines we use to do as younger children. They are 51 cents and you must have quarters. Natalie has made designs that you can print out to store the quarters in. I printed mine on sticker paper and then put it on the m&m mini rolls.
You will have loads of fun with these the passport and journals.
