Hi
Can we bring our park buckets to the cruise and pay the refill price?
Is there any other location where we can get popcorn other than the theater?
(Not concierge)

Thanks!

Yes.
I know you could get popcorn at Preludes outside the Walt Disney Theatre and Luna libations near the movie theatres.

I brought mine on the Fantasy in August. I'm a local to WDW and have a dozen popcorn buckets already. :) I had no problems filling it. Could get popcorn either at the Walt Disney Theatre or Buena Vista Theatre.

when I was on the wish in September, there were a few people that had brought park popcorn buckets along and were refilling them. I was jealous because I figured I buy a bucket onboard for refills. I only saw popcorn at the two Preludes locations and I think I might have also seen it at Luna Libations, since it is close to the two cinemas and the Balcony entrance for the Walt Disney Theater. If they had it anywhere else, I don't think I noticed.

Waiting for the popcorn buckets to get RFID codes now just like the soda mugs did.... everyone knows the buckets are for WDW only but just want to try to get the 'refill' because the cruise staff are more worried about their post cruise survey results than saying no to a customer.

But there have been times when the buckets they sell onboard are the same as the ones sold in the parks.

Some of the buckets they use on the ship are same as the parks.

But we all know people are bringing 3 year old buckets on board to begin with... just like the people that brought 10 year old mugs to Pop Century before RFID came along.

Difference is you pay for the refill of popcorn ,the soda cups and getting refills were free.

But you only pay like 99 cents instead of the full price for a new bucket of popcorn, correct? Seems to be no different than going back to your local coffee shop with a 15 day old mug and asking for the 50 cent same day refill on your new cup of coffee.

Actually I think it is $2.00. Who the heck would pay for a new bucket every time they wanted popcorn. Besides I think popcorn is pretty cheap they are not losing that much with people bring there own bucket.

It all depends on what the fine print says. Is Disney openly stating this is a valid policy in writing at the time of purchase, or are people rationalizing theft of goods? I'm not on the Wish until November so I can't look at the sign offering refills to see what it says right now.

This is really mute since it is allowed to refill the buckets. Heck I heard once someone filled there ice bucket …lol

I’ve refused to buy popcorn on the ships ever since I bought a bag outside the theatre and was automatically charged an 18% gratuity for the cast member to pour a scoop of popcorn in that bag!

I believe the price the Wish was $4 for popcorn, $3 if it was a refill. (it might have been $3 for popcorn, $2 for a refill but I'm pretty sure it was higher). It was only a $1 savings either way; That I do remember.

The person in front of me that had a the popcorn bucket asked if they could get it refilled and the person behind the counter said "sure thing". The person behind me asked her where she got it because she (like me) had hoped to get a refillable bucket. She said she had gotten it at WDW. Then the person behind me asked the Preludes cast member if they could refill any Disney popcorn bucket and he said "Yes. No problem."

I was charged the 18% gratuity, but I was also getting a Margarita in addition to my show popcorn each night, so I didn't really register it. There was only one person behind that counter, serving a loooong line of people for the show. I don't begrudge him the $.72, and added an additional tip on top. Plus he made a mean margarita, so it's all a win for me.

ETA: There were no signs anywhere with refill pricing or rules.

At Disneyland they don’t refill the popcorn buckets at all, it’s only a WDW thing. With Disney being and eco-conscious company they should be encouraging the refilling of popcorn buckets instead of having to throw away a paper one.

Pre-covid they would refill the Limited Edition AP buckets during promotional periods.

Not sure what they do these days because we had to choose between taking cruises or taking out a second mortgage to afford Annual Passes. DCL won.

At WDW, it says the buckets are valid during the length of stay. I live here, so my stay is indefinite. :)

I also don't feel bad about using a park bucket because as previously stated in this thread, gratuity is automatically included, and I usually add another $1.

When we were on the Magic in August, We were at a showing on a port day in the afternoon and the ship was almost abandoned. I was chatting with the CM serving Popcorn and he said technically they are only supposed to refill the buckets they currently have but no one will usually say anything because they want the easy gratuity. The easiest ones to get away with are the circular simple buckets at 7 or 8 dollars, not the fancier ones that are more expensive.

Fighting back against refills or using old containers is just shooting themselves in the foot really. The popcorn costs them cents to make if even that.

Yup...Very much this. It's literally $0.06 of popcorn they are scooping. If allowing the bucket means they make 3,300% profit instead of 5,000% profit, I think they're happy either way.
If you've got the bucket...any bucket...They'd rather you spend $2 than nothing at all. They don't even really pay a wage to the person who makes and scoops it, since it's all based on gratuities anyway. It's practically free money.

From the Crew's perspective, I'm sure it's worth it for them to just "lose" the $0.18 of extra gratuity than to spend even 30 seconds having to argue about it with someone.
