Silly question...maybe???

Okay this may be a silly question...can the discount codes be used on the villas?? In the past I rented points from a DVC member, but am thinking with the codes it would be less expensive. I was not familiar with the codes until I started reading the info on the boards. I wanted to go ahead and reserve the room and wasn't sure which route to take. Obviously whichever would be less expensive. I have read that you can reserve the room only now and then update with a package or codes later...is that correct?
