Silly question, but has anyone's kids started to get bored with going to Disney??

My kids still love it and I never grow tired of it. Sometimes I like to just sit somewhere and watch the people go by.

My daughter is 29 and has been going for 12 years, my son is 25 and can't wait until we go in Sept. We never grow tired of our yearly trips. There is always things to do outside the parks and we still have never seen everything in the parks. It is like a resort with unlimited exciting things to keep us busy. We just don't ever have enough time for all we want to do. It does help when the kids bring friends. My son is bringing his girl friend and another couple with him and they will enjoy the night life. My daughter and son-in-law may bring his parents. It is always great to have a GV full of people set on having a great Disney vacation. We just love every trip and look forward to the next one as soon as we get home.

I'm a 33 y/o who has been going to Disney for the past 30 years. When my parents moved our family here in 1973, they scraped together enough money to take the 6 of us to WDW and buy tickets for the rides. My favorite was going on Dumbo with my daddy. It still is today. My parents took us at least every two years growing up, and often more then once in a year as I got older (and $ permitted), 30 years later. When I became an adult, I started buying myself annual passed (Seasonal), and more then getting my moneys' worth each year. Now, we have 2 sons. They are 1 and 3. My three year old never lets a day go by with out talking about Disney. He can't wait to celebrate his and his little brothers' birthday there this year. My little one saw Mickey Mouse on something in a store a couple of months ago and said "Mickey!" with a smile that lit up his whole little face, and I looked and saw a picture of MM, and realized that he knew who MM was, and how to say his name. He was filled with glee. So, I think that my love of WDW has rubbed off on my husband and sons. I believe that my children have taken some of their cues about WDW from me, but that they have grown to love WDW on their own.
So, to answer your question, no, I never grew tired of WDW, even going as much as I did as a kid, and now, 30 years later as a grown-up. Your kids might never grow tired of it either. I am enjoying WDW with a brand new zest, as are my parents, b/c of the new little ones we now share it with. I know it sounds corny, but I'm getting teary just thinking of how much I love being able to share it with them AND my parents. We're very lucky. I am so glad that we joined DVC.
I agree with previous posters that it will keep it fresh to be able to take along a friend/family member for your children as they get older, just to keep it fresh. Think of all the memories they'll be able to create together. That's the stuff $ can't buy. I remember going there with my Girl Scout Troop and camping at Fort Wilderness, then going to the parks together, and going with my eighth grade class, all a bunch of great kids, and who can forget their Grad Night? I remember my cousin coming down for a visit from upstate NY, and going with my ENTIRE family (sister, brothers, BIL, SIL, nieces and nephews, parents) for New Years, and going again 10 years later for New Years Eve with our family after it had grown even more. For me, Disney has wonderful memories, and truly is one of my happiest places on earth.
I also believe that kids take some of their parents, do you expect them to be bored? Probably not, since you're such a die-hard, so they will pick up on this and probably never become bored. I just love being in the WDW atmosphere, anywhere at WDW is fine with me.

Mine never has gotten tired of it! He's gone every 2 out of 3 years since he was 7 years old (now 20).
- When he was little and I was a divorced mom we did the "save all year to have a cheapo motel room and strict daily budget" and he loved it .
- As he got older, I got more succesful and we were able to have a little better vacation.
-When he was 11 , I remarried and our vacations got a little nicer yet.
- When he was 14, we walked around the new Boardwalk area and he said "mom, wouldn't it be nice if we could stay her JUST ONCE".
- so we skipped a year to save, and at 16 we did stay at Boardwalk. I figured it was his last vacation with family as he was getting to be a pretty sophisticated teenager. We got a 1 bdrm at Boardwalk, and the rest, as they say, is history. We became DVC members.
- so now we go at least once a year, he brings a buddy, and they have a great time. Disney has always cooked up something new and there are some things we haven't done yet (AK still needs lots of exploration). At his age, we schedule 2 or 3 family meals or activities and the rest of his schedule is pretty much his own.

I did ask him last year if he was tired of it and if he would rather go with his buddies who were dring out to San Francisco. He looked at me as if I were nuts!

Hi,

Tired of Disney!! I don't think so! My first trip ever to WDW was May 2001. And we've never looked back. I am in a wheelchair & disney is great. if I say I want an accessible room that's what I get. :) The staff is great too! My mom is divorced & we take comfort in our trips. Can you believe that it took us 3 trips to WDW to become DVCers? We hope to have many happy memories to come.

Allison

My kids have literally grown up going to WDW, at first it was every couple of years and then it was every year and then 2x a year etc., they are now young adults and they still enjoy going to WDW BUT in varying degrees. I am in WDW every 3-4 months now and neither of my kids have the interest nor the time to go that often but my DD always makes at least one trip per year and my DS goes about every yr to 18 months. DS is not really into getting up early and doing the parks etc., he enjoys spending a lot of time at the resort, or at DTD, etc and then going to the parks for dinner and the night show. DD though is still my park buddy, she still enjoys going to the parks pretty much everyday but also likes to spend a lot of time at the resort, as do I. Both of them though still enjoy WDW very much to different degrees after many years of vacationing there! They do also enjoy Universal/IOA very much and when they are in the mood for thrill rides they are the parks they prefer much more than Disney parks but for a place to stay during vacation, they love WDW & DVC!!

My "kids" are 30, 28, and 23, and they still enjoy going to WDW. We have gone almost every year since 1978, and tonight at dinner we were saying that we missed it. It's not like we hadn't been in a while. We all went last December. As the children got older, they found different things to do. Two of them now are married with children, and the cycle has started anew!

I hate to admit it but my 16 yr old DD is bored with WDW. We just returned from 5 days at BCV and 2 days at HH. Both DDs brought friends. You would think they would have the time of their lives but the 16 yr olds didn't want to go to the parks. They would rather stay at the pool.

We went to Universal for a day and they loved it.

I think when she gets older, DD will love it again. But in the mean time, I am looking forward to traveling with my DH and other DD to both WDW and also trading out to other places. We will never get tired of it!
:p

That is one of the things I really look forward to in the years ahead. It has got to be magical to watch a Disney parade with a grandchild and see the joy and wonder in their face and be able to remember watching the same parade or fireworks and seeing the same joy and wonder in the face of your child not that long ago!! Talk about remembering the magic!!!!

UGH. Well...my 5 year odl daughter isn't as excited about it anymore. Thsi last trip in May she just didn't ahve that amazement. Gone. :( Charcaters weren't exciting to her anymore either. Regardless, I'm taking them back in a couple weeks with my Mom using the FTP deal. Just couldn't pass it up. I think this trip we'll spend a lot of tiem swimming and plan on going to both water parks, something new for her. This trip will make 6 times at WDW and once at Disneyland for her. Burned out I guess, but I'm just so addicted. My youngest si 2 1/2 and will ahve been to WDW 4 times this trip. Wow...that does seem obessive. Yikes, never reaslly counted it up. But she is still so excited about the charcters. now with us buying DVC they'll at least go twice a year. I do plan on Sea World soon, and Universal's aprsk when they get a tad older. I just think they're too young right now. I also want to do Discovery Cove. With the options of the cruise, VB and HH I think we can help burn out. But as my Mom told me the other day we really shoudl start going on one long trip once a year instead of breaking it up. It is just so hard for me to wait a FULL year each trip. With only an 8 hour drive from home it si just too tempting.

I agree with lurontravel. I started going 30 years ago, too, since I grew up in Tampa. I've never tired of WDW... even if the trip just consists of doing non-park activities like the pool, PI or water parks. To me it's just a great escape from the housework and projects I should be doing.

That's the great thing about WDW and DVC. The resorts themselves are so nice you can just go and hang out there! My friends with campers often go to FW and just spend the weekend there.

And now that we have a toddler, we're enjoying seeing everything through his eyes. The expression on his face throughout A Small World (a ride I hadn't been on in YEARS) was just priceless and something I wouldn't have wanted to miss for the world. Particularly the Magic Kingdom is renewed for me as I watch him enjoy it. And I never spent much time in Toontime -- now it's a favorite.

I think Disney is varied enough to grow as your family grows and changes.

I like this thread topic....and all the responses!

DD 14 & DD12 still would rather go to WDW than any other destination I name.

One of the things we like is that the DVC resorts stand on their own...and we don't feel compelled to spend a lot of time in the parks. We are enjoying the other features of WDW and have a long way to go before we exhaust all of those!

Hey, if the kids want to hang out at the pool or ride bikes or boats...that's a good vacation too!

But I think that the new rides and attractions will maintain their interest in the parks for some time to come.

Our girls are 22 and 18 and they never get bored with it. As a matter a fact, they seem to like it more as they get older. They feel like we do - it's unreality (fairy tale world). No bad news for a whole week is wonderful.

Great pools, great service, great restaurants, and maybe the parks for a day or two (maybe). The resorts are destinations in themselves is what the girls say. They like to sunbathe by the pool. Rental cars are pretty expensive to rent for people under 25, so Disney on-site transportation works out great for our girls.

Wow!! All these response are great. Thanks for sharing! My kids still get so excited about Disney. They are 7, 5 and 3. the younger two have been 3x's and my oldest has been 4x's.

Now, I don't think they will ever get tired of Disney for the fact that we are AWAY. They just love to travel. LOL. I took them to NYC last summer. We stayed at the Waldorf, and my DS ( 6 at the time) Said "This is the most fancy hotel room I have ever stayed in" LOL. When he said that to my MIL, she about died. 6 years old and already rating hotel rooms. Then my 2 yo tries to tell her about the hotel and the bus ride. She couldn't get over that she has never been to NYC, and she was hearing all about it through her grandchildren. LOL.. I never went anywhere as a kid. I took my very first tavelling vacation when I was 27. I want my kids to have a lifetime of memories, Disney is our passion, though the kids keep asking m when we can go back to NYC, when they are teenagers! LOL

I am excited for next year, owning DVC allows us to SHARE our Disney vacation, I just invited a friend and her DD ( who is best friends with my DD) and DH to stay at OKW for Thanksgiving week 2004. She is so excited, and I am excited for her. How can the kids ever get bored with this?

Well, yes, but that's what grandchildren are for!;)

Just two weeks ago my 8 yr old DGD told my friend who went with us, "I know I'm in Disney World, but I'm bored." At the time, I was in line for burgers at Pecos Bill's, but Lynn told me what DGD said and I was shocked and frankly a bit hurt. We just went in October so maybe there wasn't enough time in between trips for her. I just bought her an AP because I'm planning on taking her again, but now I don't know...she might need more time in between trips.

Oh well, DD is pregnant with another so I've got backup!;)

Friends of ours who are a few years ahead of us in the kid department have told us there is a slump after age 13. But, by the time they hit college age, they start to hound to use the points, w/o the parents along of course.

This is a great thread! My kiddos are dd (6) and ds (2). Dd has been to WDW 4 times and ds has been 2. They are not bored. We only go once a yr and the excitment is there. I think it does feed off of dh and I. When I plan the trips, I do try to do something different each time. Dd has done cooking with Chef Drew, she has done Alice's Tea party and this past trip we did the cruise. In Feb, I am planning to do the 1st manicure and pedicure with her. I find that to be a special treat. I can't wait until ds can do the pirate cruise. I do expect that as they get older that they will want to bring friends, which is fine by me.

I agree with another poster, if as they get older and are bored and do not want to go then they can stay home with a relative. They will not be staying home alone and partying in my house though.

This just cracked me up Jennymouse !

My kids DD11, DD13 (both just turned these ages this past month) and DS16 still love to go. We're leaving again in a couple weeks......just came back from a Disney cruise 8 mos ago too. My girls are constantly asking me exactly how many days (and hours and minutes.....they want to see the countdown clock) it'll be until we leave ! My teen son, though not as thrilled, still enjoys going. His preferences are different now though. He'll ride Space Mtn 15 times in a row while we all do the rest of the MK. He likes all the coaster-type rides (especially Rock N Roller) and also Splash Mtn. He can hang a whole day at Disney Quest too....and then there's IOA. He adores that park. We're also doing Sea World and Discovery Cove this year and he's suprisingly excited about the latter and the dolphin swim and all. Someone else mentioned mini golf....another fav of ours. We've been going 1-3 times a year since my youngest was 2. We've been DVC Members since 2000, following a Vero Beach stay. Even if we don't hit the WDW parks, we enjoy staying in the resorts and just taking a slower pace. At this point, I could see my son growing bored in another couple of years, but my girls are much more passionate than my son was at this age and I hope they stay that way. :D

My kids are little, but my sister did WDW overload as a young adult. It only took her about six trips in five years. She still goes back, but now its only every five or seven years, rather than every year (or two, or twice in one year).

That was one of our considerations when choosing a small contract and an every other year schedule - we didn't want to get bored ourselves, or see a jaded twelve year old whine "Disney, again?". Although I CAN use my points outside of Disney for variety, I'd rather just plan and book my own vacations with cash.
