Silly question about boxing up cake...

Our VR is at noon and in the questionaire it asked if I wanted to have the cake boxed (after we cut it).

Does that mean they will box up (in one big box) the cake so we can take it with us?

And if that is the case - anyone know where I can get small cake boxes? DH & I don't need THAT much cake :rotfl: I'd love to give some of the cake to our guests instead (there will be 14 (max) of us).

I'm guessing at the Cake Celebration we'll cut the cake and then everyone will have a piece (correct?); we're planning on taking everyone out to dinner later that evening, so I'm thinking if they had a piece of cake waiting for them at their room they could have a "midnight snack". (that's why the little boxes).

Thanks!

They will for sure box it up for you! Here is a picture of ours boxed up. You can see the 3 boxes that our wedding planner is holding. We moved from the Commander's Terrace to California Grill for our small lunch reception after the cake cutting ceremony. Because we wanted to serve our cake after the lunch we had them box it up.

We basically just cut a very small piece for the pictures and feeding each other the cake shots, then they boxed it up. The bottom two boxes are the two layers of cake separated and the top box was our castle cake topper.
Here is what our cake looked like before it was boxed up:

Also at the California Grill, we had a dessert included with our meal. Our guests were so full that we had them box up a slice for each guest and they took it with them. This left us the entire top tier which we still have in our refrigerator at home, lol. The fondant really helps keep it fresh and it stayed moist.

You can get individual cake boxes at Joanns or Michaels. We are having gourmet cupcakes instead of a cake and I ordered extra for the guests to take home as favors. I bought some really cute silver cupcake boxes at Michaels.

iy kills me so much of our cake was wasted. i do not believe all the cake was even brought out - not that there wasn't more than enough, i just thought there probably was more. and they boxed up the whole top layer for us, of which we ate one piece worth and had to leave it.... so sad!:sad2:

I just bought small cake boxes at Joanns. They have the new David Tutera ones which are 24 for $9.99. They also have plain ones which were 20 for $6.99. I opted for the plain ones, since it didn't matter to me whether they had the fancy dots on them or were David Tutera. I used a 40% off coupon and got 20 for $4.48 (with tax). They also had cupcake boxes if someone is going that route.

We cut our cake and I think most everyone has 2 pieces. The rest was boxed. We brought a few of the largest zip lock containers and had those filled with cake first, and then the rest was put in the 3 boxes ( we added a tier so one box per tier) . We kept the top, my family took a box for 6 of them, and dh's family took s box. The rest of the couples each got a zip lock with several pieces of cake. Everyone thanked us for doing that when we saw them later in the week!

So, after that king winded story, unless you want a LOT of cake for you, you'll want containers that hold more than one piece of cake per guest. Just give the containers to your planner before the ceremony and let them handle it!

Thank you all for your replies. I was at JoAnn's earlier today and saw the boxes for the cakes. I'll probably get some of them (and I like the zip lock bag idea too).

DH is diabetic and although he likes cake - he's not allowed to have too much, so I'd much rather give the cake to our guests than to keep it for us.

By the way, Deb loves Disney - I LOVE your cake! So pretty! Thanks for sharing the pictures.

Ditto...
We ended up leaving the whole top layer in the fridge in our hotel room :sad2:
