Are there lights out on the balcony? For some reason I am thinking I read a trip report and someone mentioned packing a lantern to use on the balcony when they went to Hilton Head.

Thanks!:)

There aren't any outside lights on the balconies. We always take a battery operated lantern and use it on the table on the balcony and it works great for reading or eating outside or playing cards. Ours has two settings. Hope you have a great trip!:)

I think it depends on whether you are in the lodge or not. I am almost positive that the balconies in the lodge have lights because I remember having to turn them on and off. I may be hallucinating, but I am almost positive that is the case because I remember being concerned about our neighbors leaving their's on when we were trying to sleep (it turned out to not be a problem).

You are hallucinating. No lights on the lodge balconies. However the lodge balconies do have an outlet so you can plug something in on your balcony, assuming the rain is not pouring down. I've sat out there with my laptop plugged in.

I am not sure I would want to be on the balcony with a light at night.. I would get eatten alive! Bring that bug spray!

I recommend checking your balcony outlet as soon as you get there -- I found out on day 2 of a 3 day stay that ours didn't have power.
It wasn't enough of an issue for me to call about it then--we were there for such a short stay-- I felt the same about some burned out lightbulbs in our 2 BR, but I did let the front desk know about it when we checked out so it could get on to a maintenance list.

We always bring a couple of tea light lanterns for the picnic table on the balcony- like the kind you get at IKEA; glass all around with a little door to open to put the tea light in? They work great.

Great idea!
And ---If there is such a thing as a citronella tea light -- it would even keep the bugs away. I think Off or one of the bug repellant brands sells something like that, but I don' t know how much light it would give off. Here at home we use citronella oil in a torch, but I wouldn't want to travel with that -- a few candles would be much easier. :hippie:

Candle light is also relaxing -- romantic, too!! (And that also has all sorts of benefits)

I have some of those Ikea lanterns also! Now I know what to do with them. I will also be checking for citronella but in spring I don't think the bugs are as active as summer.

We got absolutely eaten alive last April, so don't go unprepared!

Thanks, Dr P. I am a target for no seeums. I've usually not had a problem at HH, but I think I've just been lucky. I was eaten alive at Vero one year.
