Sunday, my stepdaughter called my DH to ask for money to travel from Idaho to her mom's house in Oregon. She and her fiance are getting married this Saturday and DH asked when she was getting the marriage license as in Oregon there is a 3 day waiting period. She replied that since she had friends in the area where the wedding is being held, she was just going to have her friends pick up the license for her.

DH set her straight that she and fiance have to apply in person in order to get a license. She just thought that anyone could pick up the important piece of paper for them. She then also wanted to know if both of them had to be there to get it. (We also had to send her money for the license)

WELL, DUH!!!

This wedding is going to be verrrrrry interesting!!!!

oh jeez...
you should tell her to ask her 'future husband' for the money for this stuff.

hehehe

at my wedding, I needed some extra money for the DJ cause we wanted him to stay longer - I went up to my dad and was like "hey dad - can I have $50 for the DJ?" he opens his wallet, hands me a $50, and i turn to walk away.

"JUST A MINUTE YOUNG LADY!" comes my mom - "you're married now - your father's wallet is off limits! go ask your husband for his wallet!"

heheheh - she was totally joking - but it was funny.

Very funny--reminds me of my nephew's bride. She comes from a big family of procrastinators. We went to see her 3 weeks before the wedding. I was making conversation and asked her what kind of flowers she was going to have. She smiled and answered vaguely, "Oh, I haven't really decided yet." My sister was with us and hollered "WHAT?" We immediately drove her to a florist and helped her order them.

The whole wedding was like that. Gave my overplanning sister (the mother of the groom) a HUGE headache.

Are you sure we are not talking about the same wedding? Up until 2 weeks ago they hadn't ordered the cake, food or the flowers. We ended up having to take over doing that. The bride had decided that the flowers she wanted would cost approx. $1,000 for everyone (there are supposed to be 25 in the bridal party). We couldn't afford that on such short notice so she's getting silk flowers - I know - tacky but at least we could afford those. We finally also had to secure a minister to marry them last week as they just didn't have the time to make "all these phone calls".

This morning we heard that some of the bridesmaids still haven't purchased their dresses.

But at least they did apply yesterday for the marriage license.

Sounds to me like someone doesn't want to get married. If they can't bother to plan anything, it must not be something they want to do!!

Personally, I think folks like this should be left to deal with the repurcussions of their own laziness/indifference/inability to plan! Maybe that would teach them a lesson for next time!! If it's not important enough for them to bother planning, why is it important to anyone else?!?

And as for the original post, if she's old enough to get married, she's old enough to pay for her own travel expenses to get there! Sheesh!

Is she really THAT clueless or is she just used to everyone else picking up her slack and doing everything for her?!?

Sorry to rant. Stepping off my soapbox...

I 100% agree with this....not having ordered any flowers with 3 weeks left to go is unreal. I'm used to these weddings in the Northeast where you order everything 3-6+ months in advance - even the cake.

If the wedding is just a picnic or something then it's not a big deal I guess. I couldn't imagine not knowing you need to be "sworn" in and sign your own marriage license days to a week in advance. Would have been an interesting wedding without it.

Kadaten, I was thinking the exact same thing!!! Seriously, if the bride is too lazy (or whatever) to order the flowers and food for the wedding, then she should be SOOL. This person is supposed to be an adult. Let her learn from her mistakes.

Don't forget to tell her to study for the blood test.
