Its too funny trying to explane the dis to friends and they don't what the big deal is.

So now i feel like hearing storys of people trying to explane the dis to friends/family.

my family just rolls their eyes...

but they DO call me for advice when they are going to Disney...

At first I over explained it by giving a short dissertation on what the DIS is and what it means to me and our sub-culture group. My family's eyes would start to glaze over about half way through.

Now everyone is lumped into 'internet friends that I go to Disney with'.

My girls get it - but of course they often read over my shoulder.

Now I work - I am threatened with interventions all the time. All in fun but they do think I am very obsessed.

My family understands and some of them visit here, but rarely post. Friends and coworkers......well they think i am nuts, but again, they come to me for vacation advice. :confused3:rotfl:

DH tolerates my obsession and understands the DIS, since he is on an online community that is similar but for drag racing/mustangs and he has been on there for over 15 years now (with meets, picnics and other local gtgs too). So he at least gets the online friends thing. ;)

 i love when i try to tell someone something funny i read on the DIS...i'm like, "So i saw on the Disney message board i frequent..." and then i get the look..."yeah i know i'm a geek." :goodvibes

I've stopped explaining the DIS and just say "my friends" unless they ask how I met the people I'm talking to/visiting. Then they get the same story that Todd gives along with the glazed look in their eyes.

i have resorted to saying "i am a member of an online community that discusses vacations in central florida"................same look.............who cares...............get away from me............freak..............:rotfl2:

:thumbsup2 I gave up and just called you my friends!! Anyone object to just being a friend :)

I used to get "that look" from family. Then my parents booked another cruise & I threw it back at them - "You're going on ANOTHER cruise?" Mom got it. Unusual for her. At work they put the 2 DIS'ers together and consider it as having put the freaks in their "Happy Place"

As for how I describe everyone - my Disney friends of course, you know, so you don't get confused with my bellydance friends! ;)

Bellydance friends?! Woohoo! I'm a bellydancer too. Shimmyshi
mmy! :)

my family just rolls their eyes...

but they DO call me for advice when they are going to Disney...

oh yes - the eye roll....not just from family, from friends too...
and yes, they ALL come to me for advice when they head to WDW....
they've come to expect a full itinerary...
and since planning is the next best thing to being there, i always oblige them.. :goodvibes

Now everyone is lumped into 'internet friends that I go to Disney with'.

i'm hoping to make the second part of that statement true for me too....hopefully THIS year!!! :)

I also get the glazed look AND the pleas for Disney vacation advice. I just admit that I read this or that on a Disney message board and avert my eyes - LOL!

Now explaining my going to the PCC 2.0 cruise in December with you guys is a little harder. I just think it's jealousy on their part! Haha...

My Mom understands that I DIS and what it's about; DH gets the online community bit but does think I'm over the top with the DIS. However when I had both a fridge swap AND a PIF box swap going on our stay last month DH thought I was nuts. Then he met some of the other swappers and suddenly it became sort of normal. And boy was he grateful for the fridge to house ice cold beer! :thumbsup2

Puh-leeeze!

Try and explain that talking to your "friends that live in your computer" is part of your job.

Or that by dining in Disney World, you are actually working.

Or that going on a cruise with 300 people IS part of what you do for a living.

Or that you talk to people in almost every state, the Netherlands, Australia, England, Israel, Canada, Italy, Scotland (I'm sure I'm forgetting someone) and consider them friends.

Or that you regularly chat with teenage girl (Cat) online and you dont need to be on To Catch a Predator.

Or that you cant do things on certain days of the week because you have to "do that radio thing where you obsess about Disney."

Or that you are going to Disneyland with 36 other people that listen to "that radio thing where you obsess about Disney."

And finally....you have to have the restraint to not smack people upside the head when they invariably say "and you get PAID for this?"

Ok I knew I felt sorry for you Kevin, you have such a hard job! LOL!!!

Trust me.....I'm not complaining.

Just explaining in the context of Sierra's original post about people not understanding.:thumbsup2

I know just playing with you!

I do not even try to explain to people, they look at me like I have 3 heads. :rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:
I just tell them if you want to know something ask me. If I don't know I will get you an asnwer from one of my friends. :thumbsup2
