Signups: Paper Piecing Swap Due March 7 CLOSED

Hey everyone I got lightning done...
I'm haveing some major issues with my Tinkerbell Cricut cart....She's too small!!! and I have the dial set to 5 1/2, and she's the size of my outstreched hand!!!! UGGGGHHHHHH
On this cart there's this thing called "real dial size" and it's stupid IMO. I can't get the black base of her any bigger than 5 1/2 but when you turn on the real dial size for the parts of her they are HUGE!!! this does not make any sence.

Ok so would anyone care if I did a princess or the Tinkerbell Title from the same cart??? I have that one fiqured out at least.

Please let me know
Thanks :cutie:

Real Dial size means just that. If you have that one, all the piece will be at 5-1/2, not scaled to fit her. You have keep that thing OFF to have all the pieces fit her. If you have the regular sized bug, you will not be able to make the shadow any bigger than 5-1/2. Nothing cuts at 6. Nothing. Stupid little bug. Not even sure why they have that on the dial.
Try doing one of the sitting down or kneeling ones instead of the standing ones. Tink 4 or Tink 14 might be easier to put together.

Never use real dial size for the paper piecings. Ever. :goodvibes You have to leave the dial the same size as what is selected for the base, and then everything will be cut out in the proper proportion. I have the Tink cartridge but haven't played with it yet, but the problem with the princess carts was there was so many fine details that when cut in proportion some pieces were too tiny to work with. The images with just the heads, or the partial body are easier to work with.

My only concern with you just doing a title, is that some have fewer layers, and that might not be fair to the other people who are in the group that are doing more complicated pieces. However, I said in the signups, that you could make up for that by mounting the paper piecing on additional layers, tags, etc or some of the groups that I have already received, the swapper made 2 pieces. So if you wanted to do a simple title, plus a flower or other embellishment piece, that would be good. Now, some of the titles are quite complicated, and no additional pieces would be required. For example, I would probably make an extra item for the first Tinkerbell title <TinkrBll> on page 28, but it would not be needed for the Tink title <Tink> on page 47.

I meant to do a paper peice title of that same cart....the last one I did was for the Surprise swap and it was about 4 layers and it turened out pretty.
But if there is no objection I'll do Tinkerbells head or I'll try her sitting down.

I just don't get how you can make her peices bigger but not the base....Oh well STUPID BUG!!!! Uggghhhh

I think what we need is a visual aid. I don't know which Tink you were trying to make, so I just picked a couple of examples.

We are limited in height, by what fits on the mat in the vertical direction. But sometimes when they are off the mat, we think we should be able to make them bigger.

See how the first Tink, doesn't look very big, but if you look at the ruler, her wings go all the way to the top and her feet all the way to the bottom. That is a 5.5" Tink, even though she looks very skinny and only about 4". Same thing with the other one, most of the image is only 4" but her foot extends down making her max out the mat vertically.

If you have CDS, you can rotate the image, but you will still be limited by the vertical height of the mat. So you still might not be able to make a 10" image, even though you have 12" to work with now, because the width of the image might be 7" which would be more than the 5.5" we have to work with in the other direction. You can make an individual shoe bigger because you are going from a 1/2" piece to a 2" or 4" piece, which is less than the 5.5" maximum space on the mat. But no, you will not be able to force the base to be anything bigger than the 5.5."

Now, if you have the dial on the base set at 5.5" but the entire piece, from toe tip to wing tip, is only coming out 3" or something, then it is possible that your cartridge is defective, or the bug isn't processing correctly (maybe a reset is necessary), but I'm guessing it just doesn't look 5.5" in height even though there is one part of it that is making it actually 5.5".

Is that helpful and does it make sense?

I do have CDS I just thought of rotating it....I was trying to do the classic pose like with her butt sticking out LOL that's the only way I can describe it.

I think the stitting one will be fine until I get more familiar with the cart.

I did the sitting Tinkerbell (pg 34) for Group E and I sat her on a mushroom. The only problem I had was with her eyes. I had to do my own thing on the eyes or they looked horrible. I couldn't work with those tiny little bits of white and blue!
