Signs of blood clot?

Ok so I know that this site isn't like going to a doctor, but I know we've all had different experiences so before I freak myself out, I thought I'd ask a group of people who have helped me in the past.

I've never had a blood clot, but they run in my family on my mothers side and she also had varicose vein surgery in the past. I have a spot on my inner thigh more closer to my knee than my upper thigh that is tender to the touch. It feels like a bruise when I push on it, but there isn't any sign of a bruise. There are no other symptoms, no redness, no swelling, not warm to touch. It just started today.

I don't expect you all to diagnose me, but for anyone who has had blood clots before, what were your symptoms?

Cannot tell you the symptoms in the leg but will tell you that I had a fifteen year old relative who passed away from an undiagnosed blood clot which traveled to her lung.

If you suspect you have a blood clot, do not waste time on the boards, call a doctor and be seen. And if you experience any sort of chest pain or difficulty breathing go to an emergency room immediately.

They are nothing to mess around with.

Hope it's nothing, but better to be safe than sorry.

IS the area white or or cold to the touch is it numb? does the area feel hard to the touch or soft and pliable? does it throb? I was a nurse and my mom has had a blood clot in her arm due to medication she received. Are you able to bear weight on that leg? BEcause let me tell you blood clots can make you scream in pain.

It is not white or cold, it looks like my other leg does. It doesn't feel hard, no throbbing. I can easily bear weight on it. It really is only tender when I push on it.

My mom's blood clots have always been red and warm to the touch. Along with pain.

I think I'm okay, but I will keep an eye on it and if the pain gets worse I will get myself to the doctor. I think I'm also being extra careful because I just heard of an acquaintance my age that died over the weekend of a blood clot and I know my uncle has had several and I take after him with some other health issues.

My husband had a blood clot in his thigh about 2 years ago. he said it felt like a deep muscle bruise. He had not redness, warmth, swelling, He had no coldness or discoloration in the area.

He only had pain with activity, and it got to the point it didn't change with positional changes, with resting or anything. i sent him to the doctor, who said DH didn't fit the typical blood clot mold, but sent him for testing anyway. THANK GOD he did! He had a severe blood clot, and part it it had already traveled to his lungs.

So just because it doesn't act like a typical blood clot doesn't mean you shouldn't go to the doctor, especially if you have pain with movement or activity. Tell the physician your family history. it is an easy test to do.

I had a blood clot in the crook of my arm when I was in the hospital for IV antibiotics. It was a deep throbbing ache.

How long did he have the pain for? What part of the thigh was it?

I had one in my arm which was very close to the surface. It was very sore and the area was raised. It was neither warm/cold or red/white - just sore and raised. At the time I had no idea of what it was. Had an ob/gyn appt and happened to show her. She immed. sent me out to have it tested and it indeed was a clot but luckily very close to the surface.

Here's a story that was just published today about a woman who almost died from a pulmonary embolism caused by a DVT (deep venous thrombosis). Cari MacLean

Okay, maybe I will make an appt with my primary for a check up and mention this to him if its still giving me a problem...better safe than sorry for sure. Thanks all!

Not a bad idea. About a year ago I had a blood clot that traveled to my lungs and blocked all 4 lobes. I was very fortunate I went to the ER when I did or I'd probably be dead. Only with me, we have no idea where the blood clot came from. They assume it was from my leg but I never had any signs or symptoms. :confused3 You'll want a D-Dimer blood test.

My husband had a clot in his leg after knee surgery in July. His calf swelled up to twice its size and the pain in his leg was excruciating, far more than any pain he had in his knee. The swelling is what prompted us to call the Dr. He ended up in the hospital for 3 days on a heparin drip. Then he had to give himself shots in the stomach for while, and go on Coumadin for a few months.

If you ever suspect a clot, do not rub the spot as you could cause it to break loose.

I had a blood clot in my leg. I had not symptoms. I was walking and all of a sudden I had extreme pain in my leg. By the time I could sit down my leg was swollen, hard and a purplish red.
I was "lucky" as my clot hit a kink in a vein in my groin and traveled down my leg. If it had gone the other way, I wouldn't be writing this.

DH has had several blood clots in his right leg/pelvic area. Some have come with intense pain, but all have made his leg swell. His right leg is (and will always be) bigger than his left. Lifelong blood thinner patient. Get checked out. Better to be safe than sorry. :thumbsup2

Everyone may not have the same symptoms.
Here is a quick lesson. Arteries take blood from your heart out to your body so there is a artery that runs down your inner thigh going down to your feet. If there is a blockage along this area your leg/feet will be cold.
The venous system takes blood from small veins into bigger deeper veins up your leg( inner thigh also) back to the heart. If there is a clot in there your leg will be hot/swelling/ painful. This is the one you don't want to travel because of it going up to the heart. DVT(deep vein thrombosis) only happens in veins.

I think you mentioning it to your doctor is a good idea. I wouldn't worry about it unless my symptoms got worse. Such as swelling/ heat/ pain in my leg. Then I would seek immediate medical attention.

My mom thought I had a blood clot in my calf a few months ago.;) Yeah, I know, I'm almost 50!!!

Anway, I had gone out for a walk one day in my new sneakers. Came home and was sitting around and tried to slip the sneakers off without untying them. They were really tight and I guess I strained my calf trying to take them off improperly. Except, at the time, I don't remember hurting myself. I just new that about 30 minutes after I took my shoes off, I got a sudden pain in my calf that got bad really fast. It seemed to improve a bit after a day or two but it would not go away. It was a very deep pain in the calf and it felt like nothing I've ever had.

My mom started freaking thinking I had a blood clot. So I did make an appointment with an orthopedist who I was established with. Within about 5 minutes of hearing my symptoms, he was writing me up an order for an emergency sonogram of my leg. He said he doubted I had one but I had some of the symptoms. He never makes assumptions anymore--he's seen all sorts get blood clots. He said, otherwise, I could have a calf muscle strain which would take 6 weeks to go away.

I had no blood clot and, sure enough, it took a full 6 weeks for my calf to feel better. And truly I don't remember hurting it--the sneaker incident is all I can think of!!

My doctor did tell me that most DVTs are in the calf, behind the knee. But they can occur anywhere along the deep vein.
