Anyone out there lose a significant amount of weight, that share if the excess skin gets reabsorbed or if it hangs around being flabby?

Hi lori! Not sure how significant you are talking about, but I can tell you that after losing 60 pounds I have excess flesh that hangs that is really hard to tone up. You can tone to a certain extent, but if there are certain areas that if they carried the most weight that they are really hard to firm up. My sister lost 100# and she was an exercise fiend and tried everything to no avail, she finally had a tummy tuck and feels so much better about her body. But I know a tummy tuck is not for everyone.

Thanks Tiggerlover,

I was really hoping more of the skin would get reabsorbed, as I will have a lot of it, maybe a disgusting amount but I won't know till I lose it all.

Lori, I guess everyone is different, I just know what it was for my sister and I. Hopefully you will be lucky. I always thought if I could tighten it all up I would be in a whole clothing size smaller!!

I'm 80 pounds from my highest, with no excess skin. I've lost it very slowly, I didn't want to lose too much at a time (and focused on being healthy, not just weight loss). Of course I have some stretch marks, but I can live with those. :)

I went to your blog, you have done great, keep it up. I'll have to see what happens when I'm done losing my weight. Thank,s for replying.

I've lost 200 so far (gastric bypass) and I have some areas that are flabby and some that toned up okay.

I will definitely need plastic surgery, but I have to lose more and stay stable at that weight.

As other posters replied, it really matters where you carried the weight, and how much. I never realized my arms had been so big, but the skin there didn't bounce back at all. The skin on my hips and butt are doing okay, and that's where I thought I'd have the most problem. We'll see what happens to my belly, but I am betting on needing a tummy tuck. My inner thighs will need surgery, too.

I don't ever expect to look like a swimsuit model. I just want to look good in my clothes. Unfortunately, I am a size 18/20 up top, but still a 28 on bottom. :sad1:

Thanks Lori - I hope it was interesting. Losing slow will help any sagging, I lost about 5 pounds per month to start, and now it's a few pounds or more a year (I'm going to try to do a pound or two a month, I think, now). But that isn't really a goal, either!

I do, however, have cellulite (but anyone can have that!) :)
