Has anyone been to Le Cellier Steakhouse since they changed it to a Signature restaurant?

I am going to book the Yachtsman, but if Le Cellier has improved there menu I might change my reservation.....

Thoughts?

The menu has changed, but from all I've read, it isn't up to Yachstman standards.

Totally agree. We've been lifelong LeCellier fans. My DH would RUN to Disney for their coffee rubbed steak....however, that's now gone. You can go to Disney's website and pull up the new menu. ALOT has changed and they've gotten rid of some of the "old favs". Which is a shame.

Lunch also seems like it's been revamped alot....although it's still only 1 TS. When I showed DH the new dinner menu, we also decided on Yachstman's. (we might still go to LeCellier at lunch....gotta have the pretzel bread!!) :thumbsup2

I know sometimes change is good....but sometimes messing with a classic isn't the best idea.

I also have a fairly recent review on my website, it's not that great either...:sad2:...not understanding why this place is so booked...probably a "good day/bad day" kinda place...but don't get the overwhelming booking of it if that's the case.

Anyway, you can check out the review on my disney dining review website (it's from a fellow DISer too ;)):

There is an entire thread devoted to this!!

Hope this helps!!

Yes i saw the thread after i posted this.... way to start my DISboard forum introduction... lol

I'll keep an eye on the conversation then.... we booked a dinner at Yatchsman, but I will change it to Le Cellier depending on the reviews...

But truth be told, i haven't been to either.. so that is why I am asking :)

I checked out your review but didn't notice what date it was on. It looks like you ate there before the change to signature? Well, thanks for posting - I had pretty much opposite reviews on everything you posted. It's definitely a place that is good for some and others just don't like it.

I am going to change the direction of this thread... if that is ok....

Is going to Le Cellier a signature experience?

I have been to California Grill, and I can see why it's a signature experience, it's a large room with a spectacular view... and of the fireworks if you can get the right time.

Is the spirit of an experience vs. the menu ... What is better, the Yachtsman or Le Cellier?

How this became a signature has nothing to do with the food. We went their once and couldn't figure it out either. Then again we weren't impressed with the Yatchman either. Shula's for steak if you ask me.

I would say Le Cellier food is now better than Yachtsman for dinner. Neither have the best atmosphere for a signature, but Yachtsman's food is also underwhelming to me.

I havent been to either LC or YS either.. Weve tried for years to do LC, this year I get an ADR and I cancelled it last week! My main concern, my DH is a big eater, the portions looked small and to be an aquired taste. I saw pics posted from YS and the steaks (porterhoues particularly) looked big and I found very few complaints from people who went there! I think next year well try LC for lunch but for a 2TS credit we are looking for service, quality, and an enjoyable atmosphere.. Ive seen more CONS at LC than YS, Id love to try Shulas sometime, but since we always do a dining plan, Shulas doesnt make the list! ;)

DisDoleWhip, I def. value your opnion on here, Ive seen your comments on lots of boards and your always open, honest and quite polite (esp. when things get crazy! lol) So LC will eventually make and stay on our ADR's, just maybe for lunch!

Yes the problem with the dining plan, well I guess it really isn't problem, but making LC signature is just Disney taking one of the most popular Epcot spots and doubling the price on people with dining plans.

Oh well YS was better than LC I thought, so if you have a choice between the two I would choose YC.

I believe the reviewer was there sometime around this past December/January. I thought it was a signature back then as he mentioned it was signature status at the end of the review.:confused3 I know there was a menu change since then which was just done in the past few weeks.

I'm sure it's all the matter of opinion, that's what reviews are all about.:goodvibes

That's understandable. Honestly it would be hard to say LC offers the full signature package right now because of its atmosphere. On our last trip we had 3 dinners there and the food and service were consistently great, but the spacing between tables could go a long way towards improving the atmosphere of the restaurant (the problem with that is they still need the table volume for lunch...). Then there's also the extremely casual theme park dress code.

The thing with Yachtsman to me is the food seems rather plain. I don't mind plain food if it's done really really well, and I wouldn't say Yachtsman did that for me. The atmosphere isn't very amazing to me either - I'd say Ruth's Chris has a more signature atmosphere. But in terms of steak options and portion sizes, Yachtsman is currently the winner on the DDP.

The DDP really does mess things up. It takes restaurants like Le Cellier and Hollywood Brown Derby, which currently offer my favorite food in the parks, and makes them unappealing because they effectively cost twice as much as slightly worse options. At the same time, the DDP inflates restaurants where you can get a $35+ entree and maybe even an appetizer just because they seem like better values. Paying OOP, Le Cellier's dinner seemed very good relative to other signatures (better than our most recent meals at Jiko, Citricos, and Narcoossee's), with options like steak tartar, salad with lobster, and duck. The sides, such as poutine with truffle salt and truffle crushed potatoes, were also extremely delicious, but aren't included on the DDP. Nevertheless, I'm happy with the change, since the food is better and I don't think it's any more overpriced than before (except a few dishes that didn't change at all).

I thought it was a signature back then as he mentioned it was signature status at the end of the review. I know there was a menu change since then which was just done in the past few weeks.
Le Cellier became a signature on March 1st, and I looked at the review; those items are not on the current signature menu (or they're plated differently now). Also the review says "it sure isn't worth 2 credits unless they do a complete makeover," and I have to say I was very impressed by the difference between my January lunch and March dinners. As a non-DDP user, I can't say Le Cellier is a better credit use than Ohana or Crystal Palace, but OOP I know where I'll have a great meal in Epcot (and I didn't even order steak entrees) :)

how far of a walk is the Yachtsman from Le Cellier?

Exit the International Gateway (located between UK and France pavilions) and walk to the YC. Maybe 10 minutes at a nice leisurely pace? There is also a boat, but it will stop at BWI first.

Now that Le Cellier has become a Signature Restaurant does it now have a dress code like the Yachtsman? We have an ADR for Le Cellier and will be in the park all day so we were planning to wear tank tops since it will be in the middle of June. We were not planning on returning to our room to change for dinner.

Since the Brown Derby is very loose on their dress code, I would imagine Le Cellier will be as well since they are both located inside theme parks.

If you are planning a trip and have been perusing the boards you will read so many negative things about places that you want to visit or places that you want to eat.. I have had everto take my experiences and not read too much into what everyone else thinks or else I would have cancelled my Le Cellier Mother's Day lunch that I have been salivating over since 2008. And it's not just Le Cellier you can pretty much going on the restaurant boards and hear that your favorite places is the worst place that someone has eaten at to you least favorite place is the best someone has eaten at.. Everyone has different expectations and different pallettes. I would book both, if you haven't eaten at either, try them both out, you may love them both but you may not as well, but at least you will have tried them both out..

While you and I have totally different opinions about Le'Cellier (I have not been there since going signature) and the Yachtsman (love it). I certainly appreciate your balanced and unbiased opinion. It is refreshing to see someone give an explanation as to why they like or don't like a place. Saying best meal of my life or it sucked is not IMHO giving a review of a place. It's just an opinion without giving a reason; and offers little insight to others who may be weighing a decision. I will also admit my opinion/review of Le'Cellier may be a bit tainted by the absolutely horrible experience we had there even before they put the food on our table. (another story) By the way, I agree with you about the atmosphere at Yachtsman; as for the steaks, I didn't find them plain and thought they were well prepared. The Rib-eye and N.Y. Strip that I have had were very flavorible with their seasonings. I will agree with you though, they are no Ruth Chris.

I'll be honest with you about Le'Cellier from this casual observer. I don't see anything in the menu that just WOWS me from what it use to be and what it is today. Perhaps if I try it out I may feel differently. I feel this is part of the problem WDW is going to have to deal with when marketing Le'Cellier to those who knew it as a 1ts. Is the "tweaked" menu and Canadian beef worth it.. As for those who have no idea of Le'Cellier in it's past life, time will tell if WDW can market this place to the masses as a better option over Narcoossee's, California Grill, Yachtsman and others.... IMHO, I don't think they will. A cramped restaurant with a cellar like atmosphere is a tough sell.
