So...does anyone here have a special drink they serve on Christmas. We usually have wine but I'd love to serve something special.

Hot buttered rums are a staple. This is a universal drink, we make them for the kids without the rum and top with whipped cream.

1 cup sugar
1 cup brown sugar
1 cup butter
2 cups vanilla ice cream
rum
water
nutmeg

1. Combine sugar, brown sugar and butter in a 2-quart saucepan. Cook over low heat, stirring occasionally, until butter is melted (6-8 min).

2. Combine cooked mixture with ice-cream in a large mixing bowl, and beat at medium speed, scraping bowl often until smooth (1-2 min). Store refrigerated up to 2 weeks or frozen up to one month.

3. For each serving, fill one-quarter of a mug with mixture, add one ounce rum and three-quarters of a cup of boiling water. Sprinkle with nutmeg.

I love egg nog and we usually serve mulled wine at parties, but my favorite Christmas drink is one I discovered at a bar near my house:

A Partridge in a Pear Tree
* 1½ oz pear vodka
* ½ oz lemon juice
* ½ oz simple syrup
* Champagne
* Rosemary, cut into 1½ inch sprigs

Rim martini glass with powdered sugar. Put a rosemary sprig in each glass. Combine vodka, lemon juice and simple syrup in a shaker with ice. Shake well, and strain over rosemary. Top with very cold champagne for a bit of fizz.

This is unbelievably good and incredibly refreshing. YUM!

I make Gin Marys w/my own special tomato juice mix. Never really liked original Bloody Marys

We have been making Pomegranate Martinis. They are very popular!

I can't remember the recipe exactly but:

- Vodka
- Pomegranate juice
- Lime juice
- Simple syrup

I sugar the rim and drop pomegranate seeds at the bottom of the martini glass. It looks very pretty too!

Cocoa with Baileys and whip cream

Or cocoa with Butterschnapps...:thumbsup2

I hesitate to suggest Expresso Martini's - did them a few yrs. back for a small NY's gathering & I couldn't keep up with the demand. :lmao:

Equal parts cold strong coffee, vodka, kahlua shaken with ice; strain into martini glasses; top with 1/4" heavy cream (pour it over the back of a spoon) and garnish with really good dark chocolate shavings. :lovestruc

ETA: Wish I could give credit to whomever posted this recipe on the DIS way back when.

egg nog

Milk punch

2 oz bourbon whiskey
1 tsp vanilla
1 cup vanilla ice cream
1 pinch nutmeg

Combine ice cream, bourbon and vanilla in a blender and process until smooth. Pour into two glasses and sprinkle with freshly grated nutmeg. Serve.

Except that I change the proportions a bit for my punch bowl.

1 gallon ice cream
3 cups Bourbon - not enough to knock you flat

My mom always made whiskey sours for every holiday. One can frozen lemonade,one can whiskey and one can water. Very yummy!!!

We do Italian bellini's at christmas although I live in Australia so we are often having a hot day when a cool drink is so lovely.

Bellini's are made from sparkling wine (traditionally prosecco) although we have been known to use champagne;) mixed with peach puree. YUM

Mistletoe Martini's!!!

You mix vodka and Midori (which is green) in a shaker, and then pour in the martini glass. Then, slowly pour in a little bit of grenadine directly in the glass. It is a heavier liquid and will sink to the the bottom, creating a layer of red under the green. Garnish with a mini candy cane. The mint/melon combination is actually very good!

Almost every year I make a frozen punch that has whiskey, orange juice & lemonade, tea & sugar.

godiva chocolate liquor and peppermint creme. serve over crushed ice and garnish with a peppermint stick. So yummy.

Raspberry cosmos. I make them the same way I do regular cosmos except I use Raspberry vodka and eliminate the lime juice.
